Reached out to Helbing Law to consolidate my debt - commencing in 2019 to date I have paid over 20K for them to only have paid less than 5K to debtors.Everytime I call - my call is disconnected by their representatives - they advertise that they can get better rates when consolidating - but they did not do me any justice.Business Response

In February 2019, I got into a contract with Helbing Law Group after they contacted me asking if I wanted to consolidate my debt into one convenient monthly payment. I would pay approximately the same amount monthly as I was paying in total when not consolidated, but Helbing would "negotiate" with each company to reduce the interest/total thus decreasing the amount of time I'd take to pay off the existing loans. Ultimately, Helbing only allowed the consolidation of two companies/credit cards, ********* and ***** *****. I made a "prepayment" of $554 to Helbing in February of 2019, and my 44 mo. contract began in March. According to the contract, I'd pay $554 to Helbing, via automatic draft, every month from March 2019 through May 2022. May 2022 came, and I assumed both debts had been resolved and, as per my contract with Helbing, I was done. However, Helbing drafted another $554 from my account in June of 2022. Because of this, I blocked payment. Helbing NEVER acknowledges/replies to written communication. They rarely took my calls, and all I ever heard from them were automated messages that my payment would be drafted. I became alarmed in the summer of 2021 when I attempted to refinance my home and found out that ***** ***** had put a lien on my home for failure to pay the credit card debt. When I reached out to Helbing, I got NO assistance. They had told me from the beginning, back in 2019, that I was at NO time allowed to communicate with ***** ***** or *********. They assured me that they, Helbing, would do ALL negotiating on my behalf. The only professional I ever spoke to was *****************, and although she was kind, I could tell her hands were tied. As my contract has officially ended, I reached out to ***** ***** to see about my debt to them. ** won't remove the lien until my debt is paid. Helbing will not budge, will not pay the debt, even after the 44 consecutive payments, unless I sign a form that says they can take $554/mo from my account. I need help!Business Response

Helbing Law Group set me up with debt consolidation program to consolidate my credit cards to pay them off. They started drafting payments from my bank account but never sent anything to my creditors nor me to show where I'm consolidating or anything. I was still getting harassment calls from my creditors and letters. They have ruined my credit score and will not return my calls or emails. They stole my money for approximately eight months before I had to stop payments. Now I'm in further debt because of them and they refuse to communicate. How can they get away with this? They are a scam. I'm totally disabled and have been trying to get help with this company.Business Response

I was with Helbing Law Group since Oct 2021 and I just fired them Aug 19, 2022 because 2 of my creditors summons me. I paid them $3738.80 and they only returned $24.62. I called them asking why they only returned $24.62 and their answer was attorney fees and the 2 accounts out of 11 that they settled they had to pay. I was wondering if they could do that. To my understanding, the attorney fees was built into the fees I was paying. I have been more than patient with this company and I feel all they have been doing is taking my money and I have gotten nothing out of this but Bad credit. My credit was better without them and now its horrible. I canceled the other company to go with them and I got all my money back and I canceled with them and lost thousands. They told me I would get my money back if I canceled and I got nothing back but $24.62.Business Response

Good Evening~
Kanesha with Helbing Law Firm, LLC, called me on 9/26/22 around 11:20a to settle the claim I have with them. I told them I rejected with the BBB because it said they were in contact with me and they were not. I also told them it didn’t have to come to this if they didn’t take my money and/or if they would’ve done their job. She said she wish she would have spoken to me before it got to that point and she did see that they only gave me back $24 and some change. She understood my frustration and she did offer me 3x’s the amount I was paying a month. She also said they were in the process of settling 2 more accounts. I told her why didn’t the guy I was talking to say that. I told her I will not contact you until I see the amount that we settle is in my account.
Just to let you know, we came to an agreement so I would like to close my case at this time.
Thank you so much for your help in this matter. I still will not send anyone their way.Initial Complaint

I signed a retainer agreement with Helbing Law Group. On July 12, 2022 I sent them an email and I called them telling them I was terminating this retainer agreement pursuant to the terms of our retainer agreement and I said: "Good Morning, I would like to terminate the retainer agreement with your office effective immediately. Please note that I have retained a new attorney, Jennifer A*******, to represent me with my case with **** ** *******. I have included Ms. A******* on this email. Please respond to this email, to include Ms. A******* on your response, and please provide me with the following: 1. Please tell me exactly how much I have in my settlement account, 2. Please provide me with documentation showing all funds in my settlement account, 3. Please tell me exactly how much I have paid your firm, to date, 4. Please provide me with documentation showing all funds I have paid your firm, 5. Please tell me how quickly I will receive my refund and how I will receive my refund - i.e. will it be deposited back into my bank account on file? or will you mail me a check? 6. Please tell me how the case with ***** ***** was settled and what, if anything, will be needed from me further on that case. Pursuant to the terms of the retainer agreement, I should not be responsible for any further payments to your law firm as I terminating this agreement effective immediately, but please respond and confirm this. I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to hearing back from you as soon as possible." They never responded and they continue to take money from my bank account each month despite my terminating their services and requesting a refund. I appreciate all assistance the BB can provide with this matter.Business Response

I contacted Helbing Law Group on 07/2021 because I got a call advertising their services. I reached out to them to help negotiate a debt consolidation with 2 of my creditors. I made an inital payment of $498.07 on July 9 2021. Then I have had to make 2 payments each month. First $234.55 to equity sales finance every month because they make me get a loan to pay them a total of 6095.57 & make payments directly of $261.73 to helbing every month since 2021 (Totalling $9,553.01) . I was made to believe they would be contacting my creditors "immediately" to negotiate on my behalf and within 7 months my credit will be great again. 1 year later and still no resolution, my credit it at the worst it can be and now I have a court date with one of my creditors because they did nothing. I just got tired of all this scamBusiness Response

I signed a contract with this firm back on 07/30/2019 to settle my credit cards account because even do I was current with all of them, I was struggling to make all payments. Everything went well for a while but they haven't settle any account since 12/2021 nor make any payments. When I call to ask about my still pending accounts (most with high balance) all they said is that are work on, is been 8 months since nothing has change on my accounts. I decided to put a stop payment on my ACH payments for them and of course now I receive 5-7 phone calls per day, many time I told them that once they negotiate at least one of my account I will continue making payments but they can't because my account is on "hold" now for payment due.I'm very concern because I trusted this law firm, they are not working on my accounts, this is affecting my credit score tremendously for years and it feels like thay are not willing to settle anything else. I truly believe they are scammers, I have a direct phone number to "my rep" ******************* but every time I call him he answers with a different name, and when I ask questions he places me on hold and never comes back, there's always an excuse or a suppose call back that never happens.I already paid them $14,755 dollars of which they paid my creditors $4,896. I will like to know where's the difference of $9,856 because my account only has $2,782 available for payments. When I told them about how unhappy I was with their service immediately they offer me to cancel my contract but I still have $11,000+ pending debts that they have to settle since 2019 Please help me with this situation since I don't know what else to do, my credit score has decreased so much and I'm afraid that creditors will go after me if I don't take care of this soon. I never refused to pay my creditors I just needed some help but this company has ruin my credit and I'm still in debt after 3 full years. If you need any additional information or documents please let me knowBusiness Response
