The Institute of Business Publications has sent an invoice to my employer with my name for $265 dollars. The services is HR Manager's Legal Alert for Supervisors but this is not something I agreed to. It is a scam impacting my name and my employer. I contacted the ************** number and left messages. The most recent today 6/27/23 and now, they are placing a net 30 payment term. They have not called back to resolve the matter and their website does not come up. They are billing for payment to account # ********. Attn my employer, ************************* with Service To: *****************************. Please assist as this is not a service that I wish to have for my employer or as an individual.Business Response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint recently registered against our company by ********************************* of the ************************** (Complaint No. ********)
While perusing the Internet on April 28, 2023, ******************** saw an offer for our publication HR Managers Legal Alert for Supervisors. After reviewing the offer, ******************** agreed to accept a trial subscription to our publication.
The offer clearly explained to ******************** that the product would cost $265 per year for five users to extend the subscription beyond the original four-issue trial. If no action was taken, the trial would simply end and ******************** would receive nothing further from us.
As per the offer, we began emailing our publication to ******************** to the email address provided to us by her (**************************).Shortly thereafter, we followed up with a continuation notice that ******************** was supposed to pay in order to continue the subscription. ******************** was under no obligation to pay the notice or take any other action. If we did not hear from ********************, we would simply discontinue sending the publication upon completion of the trial period.
On June 27, 2023, we received a voicemail from ******************** requesting that we cancel the account. We immediately processed the request and sent an email to ******************** confirming that the account had been cancelled.(Please see attached document titled ******** Cancellation Email.)
Please note that ******************** has paid no funds to us, nor are we asking for payment of anything from her to us.
In her complaint, ******************** makes several defamatory comments about our organization. She says that were running a scam. Considering that ******************** ordered our product, received our product and benefitted from our product while paying nothing to us, if were running a scam, as she suggests, it's not a very good one.
******************** also says we didn't call back to resolve the matter after she cancelled the account. She also alleges that our website does not come up. Both these statements are false. First, as demonstrated in the attached email, we did contact ******************** to confirm cancellation of the subscription on the very same day she requested the cancellation. In addition, our website does come up. For proof, simply log onto www.****.com.
Therefore, we’ve proven that *** ******** likes to play fast and loose with the facts. However, it’s unfortunate that *** ******** has chosen to bring unwanted scrutiny to our organization because she either didn’t read the offer or didn’t understand what she was agreeing to. You can rest assured that the hard-working men and women employed by our company – and their families – do no appreciate the damage *** ******** is attempting to inflict upon our business. And there’s no doubt that our customers – who are using our publication to eradicate discrimination in their workplaces – don’t appreciate the efforts of *** ******** to damage our company.
It was simply our misfortune that a chronic complainer decided to sign up for our publication and then whine to everyone and anyone who would listen. Keep in mind that in her complaint to your organization, *** ******** asks that the account be cancelled. Yet the evidence shows that the account was cancelled before she even complained to you, effectively asking you to force us to do something we’d already done!
Needless to say, we have removed *** ******** from our contact list and we respectfully request that she never again sign up for a trial subscription to any of our publications – we’d rather not deal with people who have nothing better to do with their time than complain about legitimate business practices in order to bring attention to themselves.
Given that *** ******** knowingly agreed to accept our offer and that we honored the terms of the offer to which she agreed, we hope your office will classify this complaint as what it is: unfounded.Sincerely

They sent me a bill for 5 copies of Safety Alert for Supervisors that I didn't order. I'm not a supervisor and have no need for 1 copy let alone 5.They claimed they have emailed 3 issues and I haven't received any. Not that I want any. My job doesn't involve supervision or safety.I don't pay for any publications. If they're not free, I don't want them as I'm retired.Account # from them ******** They sent me a W-9 form asking for my taxpayer ID. That is highly irregular for a magazine subscription, and I suspect some sort of fraud.Business Response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint recently registered against our company by ***************************, Senior Staff *** Engineer with ************ *****, OR. (Complaint No. ********)
While perusing the Internet on November 12, 2022, ************** saw an offer for our publication Safety Alert for Supervisors. After reviewing the offer, ************** agreed to accept a trial subscription to our publication.
The offer clearly explained to ************** that the product would cost $265 per year for five users to extend the subscription beyond the original four-issue trial. If no action was taken, the trial would simply end and ************** would receive nothing further from us.
As per the offer, we began emailing our publication to ************** to the email address provided to us by him (*****************************).Shortly thereafter, we followed up with a continuation notice that ************** was supposed to pay in order to continue the subscription. ************** was under no obligation to pay the notice or take any other action. If we did not hear from *************, we would simply discontinue sending the publication upon completion of the trial period.
During the four-issue review, we heard nothing from ************************Instead, he contacted the Better Business Bureau without making even a cursory effort to reach out to our organization.
Please note that ************** has paid no funds to us, nor are we asking for payment of anything from him to us.
In his complaint, ************** suggests that he’s not a supervisor and he doesn’t have a need for our publication. That might be true. However, keep in mind that we didn’t force him to agree to the trial subscription. He opted in to the trial after reading our description of the publication. We have to assume that people who agree to our trial offer are smart enough to figure out whether it’s relevant for them. In this case, our assumption appears to have been incorrect. Please note that at the same time ************** is accusing our business of fraudulent practices, he’s describing our product as a magazine. It is not a magazine. It is a newsletter. You’d think that someone who would take the time to disparage a company would at least figure out what he was complaining about before doing so, but once again, ************** has surprised us.
It is unfortunate that ************** has chosen to bring unwanted scrutiny to our organization because he either didn’t read the offer or didn’t understand what he was agreeing to. You can rest assured that the hard-working men and women employed by our company – and their families – do no appreciate the damage is attempting to inflict upon our business. And there’s not doubt that our customers – who are using our publication to make their workplaces safer – don’t appreciate the efforts of ************** to damage our company.
It was simply our misfortune that a chronic complainer decided to sign up for our publication and then whine to everyone and anyone who would listen except the business that he allegedly had a problem with. Needless to say, we have removed ************** from our contact list and we respectfully request that he never again sign up for a trial subscription to any of our publications wed rather not deal with people who have nothing better to do with their time than complain about legitimate business practices in order to bring attention to themselves.
Given that ************** knowingly agreed to accept our offer and that we honored the terms of the offer to which he agreed, we hope your office will classify this complaint as what it is: unfounded.

I am being invoiced by the Institute of Business Publications for HR Manager's Legal Alert for Supervisors. I did not subscribe to this publication. They solicited me via email with a sample of the HR Managers Legal Alert for Supervisors. There was also a link to Subscribe Now which I did not click on. In the email there was no disclosure about there being a fee for the HR Manager's Legal Alert for Supevisors, This is a scam.Business Response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint recently registered against our company by *****************************, ***** ******** ********** for ****** *******, San Diego, CA. (Complaint No.********)
While perusing the Internet on November 9, 2022, ****************** saw an offer for our publication HR Managers Legal Alert for Supervisors. After reviewing the offer, ****************** agreed to accept a trial subscription to our email newsletter.
The offer clearly explained to ****************** that the product would cost $265 per year for five users to extend the subscription beyond the original four-issue trial. If no action was taken, the trial would simply end and ****************** would receive nothing further from us.
As per the offer, we began emailing our publication to ****************** to the email address provided to us by her ************************* Shortly thereafter, we followed up with a continuation notice that ****************** was supposed to pay in order to continue the subscription. ****************** was under no obligation to respond to the notice or take any other action. If we did not hear from ******************, we would simply discontinue sending the publication upon completion of the trial period.
On January 3, 2023, ****************** left a voicemail message cancelling the account. We processed her request and have sent nothing to her since that date.
Even though the account had already been cancelled, ****************** still chose to lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in an obvious effort to damage the good name and reputation of our organization.
In her complaint, ****************** misrepresents her brief interaction with our business. We did not solicit her via email; we sent the publication, which she had already agreed to review, to her through email, as the offer to which she did agree clearly explained. The Subscribe Now button within the publication is simply a courtesy to HR professionals who’ve reviewed the publication and don’t want to wait until the end of the trial period to commit to a full year of 24 issues. Failure to click on the button doesn’t indicate that someone isn’t interested in continuing the trial subscription.
Please note that ****************** has paid no funds to us, nor are we asking for payment of anything to us.
It is unfortunate, however, that *** ******* has chosen to bring unwanted scrutiny to our organization because she either didn’t read the offer or didn’t understand what she was agreeing to. You can rest assured that the hard-working men and women employed by our company – and their families – do not appreciate the damage *** ******* is attempting to inflict upon our business. And there’s not doubt that our customers – who are using our publication to target illegal discrimination in the workplace – don’t appreciate the efforts of *** ******* to tarnish our company.
We're left to ask ourselves what ****************** end game is here. She requested our product, received our product, benefitted from our product and thanked us by complaining to everyone and anyone who would listen. We can only speculate that ****************** thinks workplace discrimination which our publication is intended to root out is a good thing. One wonders whether the employees of ****** ******* know that their supposed **** ********** has taken an active opposition to a publication intended to eliminate workplace bias, and has effectively positioned herself on the side of unlawful discrimination.
Needless to say, we have removed ****************** from our contact list and we respectfully request that she never again sign up for a trial subscription to any of our publications wed rather not deal with people who have nothing better to do with their time than complain about legitimate business practices in order to bring attention to themselves.
Given that ****************** knowingly agreed to accept our offer, that we honored the terms of the offer to which she agreed, and that her complaint misrepresents her dealings with us, we hope your office will classify this complaint as what it is: unfounded.
Sincerely

I received an invoice for a "free trial" that I never signed up for. I have received three invoices (two letters, one email) from IOBP for a subscription in the amount of $265 which I did not order. Not only that, because I work for the state of ******, I'm actually barred from spending any funds unless I receive prior approval from a financial officer and no one has requested or approved a subscription from IOBP. I have contacted the proper authorities at my institution and we will ignore this request. I will alert my colleagues and I'm leaving this message here to caution others.Business Response

Even though the account had already been cancelled, ************ still chose to lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in an obvious effort to damage the good name and reputation of our organization.
In her complaint, ************ alleges that she has received three invoices from us. This is not true. In fact, she received one Continuation Notice dated Sept. 13, 2022. That's it. Nothing else was sent to her, and we challenge ************ to prove otherwise. The balance of ************** complaint details the reasons she isn't allowed to subscribe to newsletters. We note that these are all issues involving her employer that have anything to do with us. We can only suggest that ************ not sign up for any more trial subscriptions to anything, given that she obviously has zero purchasing authority.

I see that they claim people are perusing the internet and unknowingly signing up for a free trial that will need cancellation. I did not do this and believe that their "perusing the internet" claim is actually a disguised bait to get unknowing people who are looking for information to unknowingly sign up for their publication. I have never received a publication and have no history of landing on their site in my records. Now I have received a bill, addressed to my employer, for $265 dollars, made out to my accounts payable. I imagine some less alert A/P teams might trust this scam and pay it. I have called the customer service line, no response. I have emailed the contact on their site. Even adding in my info to that made me nervous because how phishy this appears.Business Response

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint recently registered against our company by ***************************************, training and development manager for *************., *****, **. (Complaint No********)
While perusing the Internet on July 13, 2022, ************************ saw an offer for our publication HR Managers Legal Alert for Supervisors. After reviewing the offer, ************************ agreed to accept a trial subscription to our email newsletter.
The offer clearly explained to ************************ that the product would cost $265 per year for five users to extend the subscription beyond the original four-issue trial. If no action was taken, the trial would simply end and ************************ would receive nothing further from us.
As per the offer, we began emailing our publication to *********************** to the email address provided to us by her (*********************).Shortly thereafter, we followed up with a continuation notice that *********************** was supposed to pay in order to continue the subscription. *********************** was under no obligation to pay the notice or take any other action. If we did not hear from ************************, we would simply discontinue sending the publication upon completion of the trial period.
On Sept. 8, 2022, ************************ sent an email request to cancel the account. We processed her request and informed her of the cancellation the next day. (A copy of the email correspondence is attached as Exhibit A.)
Even though we informed ************************ that the account had already been cancelled and that we would not contact her again, ************************ still chose to lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in an obvious effort to damage the good name and reputation of our organization.
In her complaint, ************************ makes several misleading, speculative and downright false allegations against our company. She says, I believe their perusing the internet claim is actually a disguised bait to get unknowing people who are looking for information to unknowingly sign up for their publication. Frankly, this statement makes no sense. How can we force an unknowing person to unknowingly sign up for our product? We can only assume that people who agree to our trial offer know what they're doing. We don't think most HR professionals are randomly signing up for things when they don't even know what they're agreeing to. We suggest that, in the future, *********************** stop unknowingly signing up for things. But from our perspective, we cant jump into the head of our qualified prospects and force them to unknowingly sign up for our publication. Even if we could do that, we wouldn't want to!
************************ also states in her complaint that I have never received a publication. This is a false statement and she knows it. Like most marketers, we have the ability to track opens and clicks on the emails we send to our recipients. Our records reveal that ************************ did in fact open two emails that we sent to her: Our July 29, 2022, issue of HR Managers Legal Alert for Supervisors was emailed to her on July 26, 2022, and she opened it at 1:25 p.m. that same day. Our Aug. 12, 2022, issue of the publication was emailed to her on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, and she opened it at 11:44 a.m. that same day. The evidence clearly shows that ************************ did in fact receive our product and open it, making her statement an outright falsehood.
Please note that ************************ has paid no funds to us, nor are we asking for payment of anything to us.
It is unfortunate, however, that ************************ has chosen to bring unwanted scrutiny to our organization because she either didn't read the offer or didn't understand what she was agreeing to. You can rest assured that the hard-working men and women employed by our company and their families do not appreciate the damage ************************ is attempting to inflict upon our business. Given that ************************ knowingly agreed to accept our offer, that we honored the terms of the offer to which she agreed, and that her complaint is riddled with falsehoods, we hope your office will classify this complaint as what it is: unfounded.

The Institute of Business Publications (IOBP) sent invoices to individuals at our company, and also directed to our accounting department with my name on it as the company representative. The invoice included the company's W-9, and also stated we had recently received and utilized their publications. The invoice addressed to me was for 5 users to access their services. We have no record of utilizing their publications, and did not authorize or discuss a paid version for their services. Further, I have never corresponded with this company and the naming of me as the company representative receiving the service is extremely misleading.Business Response
