I decided to see a counselor though them. I made the appointment in person. They demanded a credit card and reassured me that it would not be charged without my authorization. Well, they lied. I did all the consent forms after there reassurance without reading any of them, I cancelled an appointment and they charged me $60. I have contacted them and they won't refund it and have now lost a patient. There is also no way to remove my payment info once they have it. They will not do it without adding another method. I have disputed the charge with my cardholder. I expect a refund and I want my account information removed immediately.

This organization claims to be there for those who have a mental illness - yet they have zero issue trashing someone’s credit score without even talking to them first.

They also unlawfully charge interest without any sort of appropriate licensure.

This company originally agreed to have ***** *** submit a written psychiatric evaluation. She never did. Services were NEVER rendered. I was charged $340 without my consent or authorization.

Then, they talked me into seeing another therapist promising that the report would then be filed ****** *** left their agency shortly after my appointment) and this time it STILL was not done. Services were never rendered.

I was billed $417 then an additional $112 in interest, plus additional late fees and chargeback fees. This is a bunch of fraud and crooks.

I was promised services to be rendered that was never done at all. They now have my amount in $633 in collections for services they never even completed.

This is fraud. They never even contacted me or mailed me anything.

I have been seeing a therapist at Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh since fall of last year. In January of 2022 I left my job and started a new one, meaning I lost my health insurance. I had UPMC through my old job, which is the only insurance which my therapist took at that time. February I had no insurance and then March 1st I got United Healthcare insurance. They never updated my insurance to United Healthcare and kept billing UPMC. My copay changed so I figured they updated it. I just found out that UPMC has been paying for my bills but now they are taking their money back so I owe 1,980$. This was a billing issue & not my mistake, and I feel like this is completely wrong. If this was two months and then the realized that my insurance wasn’t right then it would be different, but nine months? That just seems ridiculous to me. I can no longer see my therapist due to this and because she isn’t credentialed with my insurance. I am abruptly losing my mental health care and have to start all over with someone new. This is obviously very difficult for me because now I lost support. The woman that I spoke to at the billing department was condescending (intentional or not) and seemed like she couldn’t care less. She also stated, when she called me, that my therapist was credentialed through United Healthcare and when I told her this must of changed recently because I thought it was just UPMC, she said no. But in the email she sent to me, she said that I knew already that my therapist wasn’t able to take my insurance. I feel as if they messed up so they are taking it out on me. They haven’t contacted my new insurance or tried to back date it. They just went straight to saying all my sessions will now be classified as self pay and I owe 2,000$. In the email it is stated, $100 per session but the text from my therapist says $50. I am just confused and I will never be able to afford that $2000. I don’t feel I should have to pay for their mistakes. Thank you.

      Hello,

I am very sorry to hear that you are upset about the bill your recieved. I can not speak to your individual situation as I do not have any identifying information for you. I can state that is your responsibility to update your insurance information when you have a change of insurance. Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgs Consent for treatment outlines this as a standard medical protocol and one that we practice. Since you have described that you didnt update your insurance information and the claims continued to be submitted to the insurance that you provided, which was ulitmately inactive, the bill then becomes a patient responsibility or self paying bill. This is again, standard medical billing practice, ie' if your insurance doenst pay, you must pay.'  When you describe that the rate is 100 per hour per claim, and that then your therapist offered to reduce it to 50 per session, this is because she feels bad that your had made a mistake in not updating the insurance and has offered to backdate your appointments and have them be charged on the sliding scale. For your therapist, this means that they will recieve only half of his or her normal rate and they are doing this out of the kindness of their heart as your therapist can only be paid if you pay your invoices. I hope this helps to clarifiy this situation. Unfortunately from what you have described, we have already attempted to help you resolve this issue in collaboration with you. Please feel free to reach out to a member of the management team if you would like to discuss further, we are here to help and support any questions you may have.
