I was shipped a large *** from *************************** and they used Pitt ****. About 3 weeks after delivery I received a bill for $31.50. I contacted ********* and told them I was just the receiver of a shipment and I don't know why I am receiving a bill. Pitt Ohio told me because the driver had to use his liftgate to take the box off the truck I was being billed the $31.50. I told Pitt Ohio that I was not notified by the driver that I would be charged money just by him taking the box off the truck. The *** I spoke with ***** L.) told me it wasn't her fault and there was nothing she could do. I am refusing to pay this bill.Initial Complaint

for many years we used a trucking company (teal's) to deliver our freight from Canada to Binghamton ny, about a 5 hour trip. Teals was bought out by Pitt-Ohio a couple of years ago. Pitt told us that our current discount with teals would be honored and that they valued our business. We had no problem with our bills until our last invoice where they charged us 4 times our normal rate. upon calling to find out what was going on, they proceeded to tell us that they would no longer be giving us our current rate and they no longer wanted our business unless we shipped 20 times a month. ( that's everyday ) we told them we are a small business and that was impossible for us. I said that I understood if they wanted more freight but we couldn't do that and I understood if they wanted to raise our rates moving forward but NO ONE ever called or emailed us to tell us of an impending rate hike. they went from roughly $600 to $2400 on a shipment with no warning. That is a 400% increase. when I called to ask why no one contacted us to let us know in advance so that we could make other arrangements they said that they didn't have to notify us but that they would work with us on the bill. We just got the updated bill. It went from a 400% increase to a 300% increase. This is not right! How can a company that was charging us a certain rate for 2 years turn around and charge us 300% more with no notice. can this really be legal. If they want to charge more or not do business with us I understand and that is their prerogative but they should be required to give someone advance notice of a rate increase or Change. We are not a large company, we are a small family owned business trying to survive. This one hurts, it is really putting us in a bind. But I'm sure know one cares when another family business goes under again. I'm just frustrated that after 30 years these large companies can just walk on the little guys and there is know where to turn to dispute what they are doing.Business Response

Thank you for forwarding this to our attention. Do you have a freight bill number or pro number that you can provide so that we can review the situation? Please send that to me and I will review and get back to you or have someone in the respective department reach out to you for discussion. Thank you

The delivery called me while i was at work because he was having a hard time finding the address. I described to him where my apartment was located and we and when he
was done leaving the packages in my secure patio to send me a picture and we will confirm. I never received a picture I got a text saying my wife received the boxes I am
not married. Somebody signed for the packages that was not my signature and we never exact location only general area that's why I wanted the picture. I spoke with Angela N***** about the issue and she was very condescending and was being coached by another male during the phone call.Business Response

This is the third time I am responding to the same complaint. Please advise if you are not receiving my responses so I can send them to you another way....thanks.
The complainant needs to follow the legal avenue of response. They need to file a FREIGHT CLAIM and identify the freight bill number (pro number), attach copies of the invoice for the product, and email it to [email protected] . They will receive an acknowledgement of the claim within 30 days of filing and the claim will be investigated within 60 days. If they have any questions, they can call ###-###-#### and ask for the Claims Dept. We will explain the process to them.
This is not really a complaint. It is a FREIGHT CLAIM and should be filed the legal and proper way.
Thanks,

I own a chimney cleaning and repair business.. Over 3 weeks ago I order a refractory panel for a repair job, the customer can not use the fireplace until this repair is made. Pitt Ohio delivered the panel with a major crack in it. The delivery guy tried to play it off but I could see the cardboard around was damaged I moved the cardboard and showed him the crack he tried to act as if he didnt know this panel was damaged but I believe he did as it was very obvious. The manufacturer was kind enough to send a replacement, this time Pitt Ohio delivered it to the wrong address dispite the fact there was 2 stickers with my name and address on the panel. This time the panel was laid flat on a pallet face up. This panel can not get wet it weakens it and then heat from fire will crack it and it was left uncovered. The homeowner using the information on the sticker called me after business hours and left a message the panel had been delivered to his house. The next morning I got the message and went right over to get and since it rained all nite the panel was soaked and partially frozen so its ruined. Shortly after I returned home Pitt Ohio called and left a message which I saved) saying they have a delivery for me and I need to call back and confirm someone would be there to accept delivery or they wouldn't deliver it. I called back and let her know its was delivered to the wrong address yesterday she told that was impossible as they just received it yesterday, I called my customer to explain what had happened the customer thinks I am making excuses and told me he'd find someone else to do the job. So I lost the job in which I would have profited $900 and paid $300 for panel I can not use! I spoke with the homeowner where the panel was delivered and he has not ordered anything and wanted to know how they got his name and address. His house is not on my street its in another part of town the numbers or the street names are not similar. This company is very unprofessionalBusiness Response

Hi *******:
I’ve received the following BBB complaint. In reviewing the complaint, I noticed the there was insufficient information for me to do an investigation.
Would you please reach out to this gentleman and get a freight bill (pro) number from the shipment so I can research it sufficiently.
Thanks! Stay well!

The claimant/complaintant needs to follow the proper channels and file a freight claim. I've attached a form for them to use. They also need to attach the invoice or substantiating documentation for the claim. This form can be emailed back to us at [email protected] where it will be reviewed and processed. The claimant will also need to identify the shipment by the pro number or freight bill number (both are the same). This will help us identify the shipment.
Thank you.
