On May 1, 2025 I dropped off 3 dresses for alterations. Maria G****, the owner, told me they only took cash, that it was going to be $175, and that they wouldn’t start the work until I paid. I immediately went to my bank and withdrew $200. I returned to the store and gave Maria’s husband $180 in cash. He pulled his giant roll of money out of his pocket and returned $5. I left with my receipt.

On 6/16/2525 at approximately 1045AM, I went to Maria’s to pick up my clothes. Maria’s husband looked at my receipt and at his old ledger and said that because he hadn’t written ‘paid’ on the receipt, that I would have to give him another $175 to get my property back. After offering to show them the $200 withdrawal from my bank and asking why they did the alterations if I hadn’t paid for them (per their policy), I left with my property and receipt. Maria’s husband followed me down the street and body checked me against the glass window of the Antique Store. I have a witness to this assault. I was afraid Maria’s husband was going to assault me again, so I returned to the store at 10:55 and called 911. Maria’s husband kicked me out of the store, and I went outside without my dresses or my receipt.

Upon realizing I didn’t have my receipt, my 17-year-old daughter entered the store to retrieve it. Maria’s husband had a pen in his hand and was trying to alter my receipt. When my daughter grabbed my receipt off the counter, Maria’s husband raised his phone in a threatening manner. My daughter believes he would have hit her if Maria hadn’t grabbed his arm and pushed him away from her. These events were recorded on my daughter’s phone.

I have filed a police report for theft and assault. I would like my property returned to me.

I dropped off a pair of jeans to be hemmed on May 6. One side was pinned. They wanted me to pay up front, but I didn't have the money. I left the pinned jeans there and Maria told me to leave the receipt and come back with the money. I came back later than expected to drop off money the second to last week of May, but they couldn't find the jeans. Her husband was confused and asked me for the ticket. I repeated that I didn't have the ticket. He took down my number and said he would look and call back. No one called. I called again and left multiple messages to remind them to look and call me back. I last spoke to Maria June 12 and she said she would look over the weekend and that I should call back on Monday. There's no customer service. They are unconcerned, dismissive and unapologetic. If they can't find my jeans, I request that pay for another pair.
