I would give zero stars if it was an option. This is a scam company! We paid $6500 for "architectural plans" with the hopes of using this company to eventually build our home. It turns out that Colt Buildings created a fake website impersonating ******* ******* (whom we thought we contacted) and we signed a contract with this fake company. We have submitted a complaint with the SCLLR and are working with fraud departments. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! There are A LOT of us who were scammed! I am thankful it was only $6500. Some are out tens of thousands of dollars.
We did work with a "Design Engineer" and "Architectural Designer" for about a year and we have no usable plans. A COMPLETE SCAM!
I am nervous to request our refund because many people have stated he not only declines the refund, but will also take you to court and get more money out of you. Insane!
If you look at other reviews, Juan A******** states he is "legally bound to not respond to these comments" because he is being sued.

We provided the client with plans designed to a pre engineered cold form building to code according to the contract that she signed. The plans where delivered. For further engineering a deposit would be required for the structural and foundational plans according to the contract that was submitted and signed by both parties. This client is more than welcome to file a small claims court action in Greenwood South Carolina as per the contract to resolve this accordingly. We have followed IBC and IRC codes. For further action. Please have the client submit a copy of their contract and a copy of the work conducted by our design team at that team for credibility and accountability.

You failed to mention you impersonated another business, of which you have done several times and you have been reported to the SCLLR and received “cease and desist” letters.

You also were to provide “architectural plans” per the contract, falsely advertising involvement of an architect. Your “architect” and “engineer” had both titles in her email signature. The contract says nothing about “pre-engineered cold form building”, whatever that means.

You stopped responding to us when we said we were not ready to move forward with the structure until we had land. When we found land, your “architect” was gone with no forwarded email contact options.

We never resolved a structure issue with your “pre-structural support” person when a quote was sent and we were given one week to sign or we lose our quote price. Our plans were never completed, just rushed together and quote sent.

SCLLR has been notified and we will pursue other avenues of recourse.

We signed a contract and paid in full ($3,500.00) for custom designed architectural plans. We have not received a complete set of plans. The plans we were given from Colt Buildings were sent over to our engineer to draw structural plans. After many hours (and Money to the engineer) , our licensed engineer is unable to draw structural plans based off the architectural plans Colt Buildings provided to us. To proceed with building our home, we must have a complete set per building code architectural plans in order for the next step in the building process, which is engineered plans. We have spoken with the building department in the county we plan to build and they cannot accept the plans as drawn. They must have the engineer draw structural plans based off of the architectural plans. The current architectural plans are not to architectural standards, therefore the engineer cannot draw his structural plans. We have tried multiple times attempting to get this resolved with Colt Buildings and the owner, Juan A********, but have been unsuccessful. We have also given them the chance to refund us. Furthermore, after doing some research on this company online, there have been many instances of this same situation.

How are we a scam? Out of 378 clients. Please explain how we did not deliver your building. You ordered a building, and it was delivered. You received and paid a product and then refused to pay the proper sales tax according to South Carolina laws. That is the truth with supporting documents.
Please submit your paperwork to your local attorney to find justification. To simply comment on the BBB is a third party non profit. Defamation of character would be in line if these statements are not truthful.

Thank you for sharing "Colt Buildings is a scam" Please include logical and realistic data to support your argument.
Did you not receive your product? Did you not sign a contract for a product?
Take note with good business ethical standards.

Juan is a scammer and not a businessman. Prices we were promised from the get-go and along the way doubled and his lack of care of customer service is beyond baffling. He snuck in fees that were never mentioned when promising a price and then demanded 100% of the install price for a 2000sqft metal building before the material even reached out property. Stay FAR away from this company. Three employees we were directly dealing with quit in the 6 months we dealt with them and Juan fired the only capable engineer he had.

Client received their building according to the contract and it was received by the client. They client was extremely nasty towards our staff by cussing them out. Therefore, resigned to continue to work with this client. We have recorded zoom meetings to take into account the conversations of this client reaction. We never fired engineers. If so, please provide the engineers license number and name for accountability.
If the client feels they have been wronged, then they can contact a local county or city court so that we can present the following documents. Clients will not be serviced who cuss out our staff.
      Kind Regards,
      Juan A********

Similar sentiment as others have provided. This company took my $4,000 for plans. Don't expect to get your money back. I was planning on purchasing the shell of a barndominium and finishing the inside myself. I was initially quoted 27k to 28k which I have receipts for. I purchased the plans and every visit and update came with more and more money being needed. It changed to $36,454.00 with installation. Than it came back that my house was in cold form and not clear span. Clear span includes installation cost in quote. Cold form does not. It got changed to cold form when I asked that the roof be pitched higher. But was never told at a certain roof pitch the house had to be made cold form. So than the final quote ended up being 52k because cold form does not include the installation and that has to be added in. I was also told I had to have the septic tank installed before they would proceed, which thankfully we pushed this and found out it wasn't true or else I would have had a septic tank sitting on my property. I was told the owner would reach out to me and call me, he never did. You're very much pressured to spend the $4,000 on plans before they take you seriously. Than afterwards the numbers for quotes keep changing and they continue to get higher and higher. Just read all the reviews here, it's the same experience. It's honestly laughable at this point of how many people are having the exact same complaint. I have absolutely zero knowledge about building houses so I trusted my sales rep and the company and it was not a good experience.

Like all the others - paid my $4K and was promised this would include “stamped and sealed” plans - well, not true!!! Nothing but a scam - you don’t get what you are promised until you give a deposit of 30% on structure! Cannot find ONE client who has a completed build! STAY AWAY! Don’t make my mistake!

      Colt Buildings LLC

According to contract plans are stamped and sealed upon the purchase of the building. This was explained to you 100% and through email. Please ensure you understand that the plans are conducted for shell kits to for pre engineered buildings as stated numerous times.

Budget wasn't an issue. Signed contract. We actually gave them plans we had just needed official stamps etc on them. We did have them make a couple changes though. Finally got what we wanted and waited over 3 mo nths and order was never submitted due to incompetence of everyone at colt buildings. They never answered phones and were always busy event that we paid for buildings in cash over 100k. Juan is immature, unprofessional, and sexist. I had to physically drive to his location to get my money back on an order that was never processed.

Buyer beware. After 8 months and thousands of dollars...I am still fighting a uphill battle.
I currently have complaints filed with SC Consumer Affiars as the business lies and scams. I have complaints filed with SC LLR because their in house contractors are not licensed, bonded, or insured. I had to file fraud claims with my bank....this has been an exhausting ordeal.
I have complaints with local law enforcement and the local courts. After falling victim, I learn the owner Juan was found/plead guilty to fraud charges while serving in the military and now he makes a living defrauding civilians.
He also uses the courts as his playgrounds filing lawsuits against former employees and threatening to file suit against the very customers he has scammed.
If he as much attempt to threaten me with a lawsuit for slander..I'm prepared to countersue AND go public with all of the local news outlets.

It is unfortunate that you feel the need to attack my personal character. Anyone can research my military career and anyone who knows how that world works will know that you have made some serious unfounded and untrue statements regarding me personally. Courts are not playgrounds as you have stated. However, they are necessary to help aid and negotiate legally binding contracts. We have addressed your complaints with all entities and will allow them to make the determinations regarding any pending contractual misgivings or liabilities. Unfortunately, we are legally bound to not respond to these comments with any specific information at this time. However, once all has been settled, we would love the opportunity to respond. As well, we have provided a copy of this review over to the General Contracting firm that you retained to do your scope of business, since their licensure was also questioned in this review. As far as my personal military career, please refer to juanadriatico.com for a detailed listing of that.

You can't talk with anyone at Colt without signing a contract and spending $4000.
After weeks of trying to figure floor plans out, Colt couldn't design anything we liked. We told them our budget was 350k. Their lead drafter ended up designing a house that was over 700k.
My "business history" with Colt was literally a 20 minute zoom call and a dozen emails back and forth. I asked the owner for a refund and he said "Based upon the the contract you signed and we agreed upon there is a no refund policy". The Colt website states they are a Christian company and that they value honesty and integrity. This owner truly believes that the 20 minute zoom call and dozen emails is worth $4000.
If any of you value your time and money, you will leave Colt Buildings alone.

While we do feel bad that you decided, according to you, in the middle of your design process to not move forward. However, each of your dozen emails were met with design work and progress on your plans. It seems that you have a full estimate on your design plan which suggests that you did finish out your design. Also, all design choices are 100% in your control and our design teams works very hard to give clients what they want. If you are unable to afford your design, we are more than happy to revisit and finalize a smaller floor plan for you. Your decision to conduct a stop order is your decision, however as we are very detailed in our process and the initial agreements signed, prior to any work starting with Colt Buildings, we are unable to provide you with a refund based upon the scope of work completed.
