    Sweetgrass Psychiatry changed their outsourced billing service during the duration of my appointments. They require a debit or credit card to be on file for payment. The current service has debited my account on 3 separate occasions without explanation of what the charges are for other than they are back billed for appointments that were months ago. The billing service has been non-communicative except for anonymous texts that say they are not responsible for what a provider sets as a copay.(?) The business office also sends anonymous texts thru the same channel so you don't know who you are communicating with. I was told a billing statement would be sent out explaining the charges and then I was told it was a HIPPA violation and I had to use their portal. I am not able to use a portal and no one is willing to give me an explanation on the phone. This office refuses to be accountable for their billing. I want to receive a statement explaining the back charges and for which appointments I was being back-charged for. ***** sends me Summary of Charges thru the mail so I don't believe there is any HIPPA violation involved with sending a billing statement.

    Verification of the patients benefits are never a guarantee. If we are advised a $30 copay up front then that is what we charge. If the patients insurance processes with a different copay this is what we unfortunately have to charge even if this occurs when insurance decides to reprocess claims at a later date. We uploaded a statement with an explanation through our hipaa compliant patient portal but the patient never wanted to sign in. We are unable to email statements directly to the patient as our email is not hipaa compliant. A statement was paper mailed with an explanation. The patient has a $40 copay, not a $30 copay as her insurance company originally advised for the services rendered. We did call the patient and advised of this We also advised to also call her insurance company and verify her benefits through them if she did not believe us.
