I purchased a membership in 2008 with ************************. *** was recently sold to Travel Resorts of America. I called to cancel my membership and was told that was impossible and in order to be able to cancel my membership I would have to first purchase a different membership with Travel Resorts for $**** and keep it at least 2 years. I haven't paid my maintenance fee yet this year because I have been trying numerous times to cancel since the sale. I am more than willing to pay my maintenance fee for this year if I can cancel without having to stick more money in.

I actually called members services and the agreed upon resolution was to pay the current year's maintenance fees and send in a signed letter asking for cancellation. Once received they agreed to cancel my membership. I did ask for documentation of cancellation but am still waiting to receive that.

On June 15th my husband and I signed a membership contract with Midwest Outdoor Resorts. We were rushed through the process and were not given the time to read over anything. We were told that out maintenance fees would be $*** a year. In march of 2022 we get a call from Travel Resorts telling us we needed to attend a meeting. The meeting was just a sales pitch telling us we needed to upgrade and pay $******-$****** to avoid fees going as high as $**** a year or more. We received a bill for $****** for this years fees and it says on the bill if you also pay next years fees now you wont have to pay an addition *** percent increase next year. We were never told that Midwest Outdoor Resorts was being sold. I have tried on several occasions to talk with someone at travel resorts but can never get through, just sit on hold. i want out of this membership. I cannot and will not pay the high fees. I will pay off the contract.

We bought into MOA Oct 2019 paid ******* cash, this was a high pressure sale meeting, o only to find out we also signed up for ********** and **************. Paying annual fees for all of these.
We never used any of these services due to pandemic ****************************** only to be charged and we paid these annual fees.
We get a call from travel resorts only to find out they bought MOR, informing us that our maintenance fee is due we told them to cancel we don't want it nor will we use it only to find this is a lifetime which we were not told at high pressure sales meeting and we're not giving time to read contract for Karen ****** had to get going for another meeting.
We were told the only way we could cancel is to sign a new contract with travel resorts and pay $***** or be sent to collections.
I am more than willing to pay the maintenance fee for this year to get out of this contract but I will not pay $***** if I have to go to collections so be it.

This company is ****** and a never ending ********. They also never allow you to get out their contracts so you are stuck for life.
We were asked to attend a meeting so we could get our new ID's. We went to the meeting and it was just about selling us a premier package which we turned down because like our original contract it is a scam and doesn't make any sense from a financial perspective. They said we just had to send in a copy of our Driver's license for my partner to be added to out policy. They didn't do that. So now my partner and his guests can't go camping unless I drive 3 hours one way just to check them in while they are already there. They will not do anything on their part to accommodate this problem when we were lied to by their company. Stay very far away from them! Not worth time and money!

I am so sorry. We had no record of someone other than yourself checking into your cabin. The resort was only following policy by not allowing anyone other than your self to stay in the cabin. I apologize for the inconvenience. We were not aware that you had attempted to add another name to your contract. That is something that must be done with our Member Services department. I will have an agent reach out to you today to get that process started. Since these are legally binding contract we will need more than just a copy of an ID to add the name. We look forward to correcting this for you to avoid problems in the future.

We originally bought a lifetime membership with Midwest outdoors resorts in 2018 for around $****. This membership was supposed to be able to be handed down to our child when we are too old, but I'm not sure if ************************* will honor that. They used high pressure tactics, did not mention the unending $*** per year "maintenance fees" (we only tent camp there a couple times per year), and the sales person made a big deal about how the resort was family owned and would continue to be so. They also told us that they would be expanding with multiple new resorts in ********* and ************. They opened one new site before selling to *************************, a large out of state company with terrible customer service and a record of poor maintenance of their properties.

I believe that their sales pitch qualifies as false advertising, they use high pressure techniques, and obfuscate the extra fees. Had we known they would be selling out to a big company, or about the excessive maintenance fees we never would have purchased a membership. We therefore request that all payments and fees be returned to us and our membership be canceled or we will be filing a class action lawsuit.

      Hello,
I wish we knew you had these concerns, I do not see where you have reached out to ************************* to discuss them. Rest assured your membership benefits remain the same. I show that you have a 3 generation membership, which means you are able to transfer this membership to your children, should you wish to do so. If you refer to your contract it does state that the maintenance fees are collected yearly and we have not increased those since the purchase of Midwest Outdoor Resorts. It also states in the contract that the campgrounds are able to be sold at anytime as long as the buyer holds true to the contract. Which we have. We would not be able to refund you any money on the account nor cancel it, as there is still a loan balance on the membership. Should you pay in full you can, at that point, cancel the membership if you wish to do so. If you have any other concerns please feel free to reach out to our Member Services Department, we are happy to help.

      Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/08/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This is completely unacceptable. We didn't sign a contract with your company, we signed one with a local company and never would have signed up with yours. We do not want to pay you thousands of dollars just to cancel that is completely ridiculous. We will be looking into legal options for misrepresentation and false advertisement. Additionally, You are not an unbiased party in this matter and I do not believe the contract we signed cannot be canceled without full payment.

      Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/08/25) */
I am sorry that you are not happy with the sale of the Midwest Outdoor Resorts, however it is stated in your contract that they could sell. *** is honoring your contractual agreement and we urge you to use your membership to its fullest as we are unable to cancel with a loan balance owed on the account.

      Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2022/08/26) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Again, you are not an unbiased party in this and I do not believe you have lived up to your end of the contract. You misrepresented your company during the sale, misrepresented the maintenance fees, and used high pressure sales tactics including not giving us time to read the contract before signing. We will be sending you a certified letter demanding repayment of what we have payed or we will be filing suit not only to reclaim what we have paid due to your breach of contract, but also for damages for fraud and deceptive trade practices, as you lied about maintaining ownership of the company, about the amount of expansion planned (you claimed you were opening several new resorts- you opened one), and for obfuscating the maintenance fee schedule and amount. We have tried contacting you by phone but have yet to actually be able to talk to someone since the sale of Midwest outdoors to travel resorts.

On January 26, 2022, we received a letter announcing: Welcome to Travel Resorts Of America. This was the first we were aware the Midwest Outdoors was sold. We are in a purchase agreement with Midwest Outdoors and not Travel Resorts. In the information included, we were told a member of the TRA team would reach out to us. That never happened, until we did not pay the maintenance fee. We paid the fee in 2021, to Midwest Outdoors and never made a reservation. We contacted Travel Resorts expressing a desire to cancel membership ( which I do not think we have with them because no contract was ever offered), and that we do not plan or have made any reservations. The response was, in order to terminate membership, we have to pay the maintenance fee. Past maintenance fees increased by about $*****. The current fee increased by about $*****.

      Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/08/05) */
I would like to address the legally binding contract that the members hold. All of the listed complaints are addressed in the contract. I am sorry to hear that MOR did not notify their members of the selling of their resorts. However, it is within the rights of the contract to do so.(Section 13 of the Disclosure Statement) There would not be a new contract issued, they just simply transfer over to TRA. According to the contract maintenance fees are subject to increase annually in direct relationship to resort operational expenses (Section 3 in the General Terms and Conditions). I would like to add that TRA has not increased the rates for the previous MOR members. The price we charged was the prices they provided to us at signing. If there was an increase it was placed by MOR. We understand that not everyone is happy about the sale of MOR and we have previously advised the member that in order to cancel all that would be required is the past due balance paid and a signed letter requesting to do so. We offered this solution as a courtesy since this is a lifetime membership that is not meant to be cancelled until the passing of the member.

      Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/08/08) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Communication is what your company lacks. It was stated in a Jan., 2022, letter you would contact us in the next coming weeks. Never happened, but you sent a maintenance fee statement. We have not recovered from the economic blow created by the pandemic, and to send a maintenance fee $** more to help you recover is just plain disrespectful. Because we do not want to suffer a collection process, we will pay what we can. Consider this our signed letter requesting membership termination.

      Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/08/09) */
Thank you! Once the payment is received and a signed letter requesting to cancel is received we will cancel your account.
