Absolutely steer clear of AO Smith tank water heater. It has a 6 year warranty and that’s exactly how long it lasts. In my case, at six years and less than 5 months it began leaking from the bottom. Of course customer service will do nothing since by just dumb luck the leak shows up barely after the warranty expiration. The customer service representative I spoke with had the audacity to suggest that this is a good thing. Now I can buy a new one and have a warranty. No thanks. At $1,350.00 for labor and the unit I will switch to a brand that makes a quality product that is intended to last. Obviously AO Smith is perfectly satisfied to produce a poor quality product and force its customers to replace it at a ridiculously short interval. Previous water heaters I have had lasted 20 years plus. 6 years-AO Smith should be embarrassed. If you’re not, shame on you.

With your experience of previous heaters lasting 20 years, this indicates something has changed in your home's plumbing system.

The addition of a water treatment system, switching to city water, the lack of a thermal expansion tank, and other things will contribute to shortened life of a water heater.

We recommend reviewing the manual provided with your new water heater to ensure it is properly installed and maintained.

If there is a problem that is not corrected, and if the water heater is not maintained, you can expect similar results with other brands of water heaters.

Your reply is absolute nonsense and actually proves the point that this AO Smith brand water heater is a poor quality product. The only change in my system was to your product that only has a ridiculously short 6 year lifespan. It is obvious you are satisfied with this. This water heater was professionally installed by a reputable plumbing contractor. It was maintained according to the owners manual. Why not just accept responsibility for your product performance? Of course why would you when by sheer dumb the water heater managed to last a short time beyond the warranty period and you have that excuse. It is imperative that consumers stick together. We need to warn each about products that don’t last and companies, like AO Smith, that are satisfied with not taking care of their customers . I stand by my review. It is accurate and honest, unlike your response. I also submitted reviews on ******** ******* and ****** to insure that I am doing my best to warn others to avoid this very expensive mistake.

Twice their PROmseries water heater has failed. Emails go unanswered for week or more. Then they expect you have the failed water heater still. Pictures sent showing the failed unit. Again ignored. Going to keep calling and emailing until they honor their warranty as I had it professionally installed by their supplier and they willl honor it or they will keep hearing from me and keep getting reviews showing they fail to be a trustworthy company.

This company is Fraud, I purchased as Burner assembly for the water heater, Operator told me they can do next day air if extra amount is paid, as I needed it urgent I paid the extra amount.
Parts did not arrive next day and upon call to them to request update they told me parts left their Wearhouse. manager was so rude to talk to as I was requesting them to refund the extra cost charged next day deliver, response I got was we don't deliver and it was shipped through ***, I told them to contact *** as order to *** was placed by them she rudely refused that.
After this my technicians told me to replace complete Water heater and we did that and when the parts came in from A.O.Smith I returned those parts as is with $21 Shipping from my pocket.
They received the parts on Aug 8 and cleared for refund on Aug 14.
Now its been 2 months I still have not received refund for the parts. during these 2 months I have called them multiple times and got no solution or they just keep transferring your call to dead end.
Next thing I am going to do is File complaint if this is not resolved by end of this week.

Bought an electric storage tank water heater. There’s an issue with the EO2 alert. Second time in the year I have had it. There’s no way to stop it without shutting off the power until you get a repairman and replacement part. Would never purchase another product from A. O. Smith. Buyer beware.

Our 3yo hot water heater has stopped working multiple times. Last week it stopped working again. Our plumber called State to help diagnose. It was a $400+ part that needed replacing. They gave me the option to overnight the part for over $100 or three day ship for $20.
We were told part would arrive in three business days.
After five business days I started getting worried and called State myself and talked to Keith. After a long wait while he looked up my order he told me the part was on backorder. I told him they said three to five business days last week but he didn’t seem to care. Asked why they couldn’t tell me the part was backordered when I placed the order. He said he doesn’t know. Asked when part will be back in stock-says he doesn’t know. Asked for the part #-he gives it to me. (Turns out it’s half the price they quoted)
Now the kicker. I said fine please cancel the order. He says can’t do it. I confirm that the part is backordered, no one told us it was, part was guaranteed days ago, and he doesn’t know when it will be back in stock.
He says to refuse delivery and I won’t be charged. I ask about shipping- nope shipping is non refundable.
So me and my elderly parents have been out of hot water going on 9 days in upstate NY winter because of this shoddy company’s equipment and horrible customer service and they will still be charging me to ship a part, that I no longer need, at some random date in the future.
Explanation is can’t stop an order after it gets put in their system. Amazing a company’s disfunction always works in their favor not the customer’s.
Keith the cust service rep was absolutely horrible. Zero apology. Zero help. Rude. Refused to let me speak to a manager. The water heater is absolute junk and my family still has no hot water. For this they still expect me to pay $40-50 in shipping when they get around to shipping a now disclosed backordered part and lookout for a $400+ charge. Stay away from State Water Heaters!
      Absolute hacks.

Had a water heater replaced in 2021 just to have a fault in the electronic thermostat. they sent me a new thermostat and 2 elements. All installed by a professional plumber only to have another fault 2 hours later for the upper element. Called back and they provided me a new element. Had that installed and still no hot water. I was told I needed to get an electrician out to check the breaker, which I did. So I was provided a new tank to replace the 2021 tank, however only being 4 months out of labor warranty they wouldn't cover my $1250 expense. The new tank came faulty from the factory and blew out my breaker. I had to have an electrician come back out and I am on my 3rd breaker. I ended up getting a new water heater again for the 2nd time and had that installed. I contacted technical support and asked to speak with a manager to try to get some help recuperating some money back since I had all these struggles and extra payments to electricians etc. only to be told there are no managers. They are all busy on the phone with other customers. I asked to be transferred and told them I don't mind sitting on hold only to be told that there is no way to transfer and no one to talk to. I was told to keep calling back and ask for a manager but there is no guarantee that I would even be able to talk with a manager.
I will never work with State Water Heaters or A O Smith Corporation again. How can you not have any management to speak with customers.?!?!
