1 starThey quoted $2,500 to replace a hot water heater. I bought one from Lowes for less than $600 and had a plumber install it for $400, which included hauling off the old one for a total of less than $1,000. The one I bought was a better unit and had a longer warranty.I did have them install a new HVAC unit that started leaking freon after 3 years. They said the coil was leaking and needed to be replaced. Their quote was for $2450+ even though I had purchased an extended warranty and the coil was warranted for 10 years. They said the warranty didn't apply since I had a different company perform the annual service. After refusing their quote, I called a different company for service and they said it was a leak in the tubing coming from the compressor and not in the coil. They had the system working in less time than it took Choates to come up with their ridiculous quote for the wrong solution.Review fromAm C

We have been using Choates for about a year. I would *highly recommend* getting another quotes and second opinions before doing business with them. Their pricing was over ***** more than the company we went with. They also were going to charge us over $400 per thermostat to be replaced (for a $30 thermostat). They also had us signed up for their family plan which is a scam as well. The day they came to check our system the very next day one of our 3 AC units broke. Leading them to try to quote us over 6-8K in repairs (after they had been there the day before). Im beyond disappointed but thankful we found a company that was fair and honest. Do not use Choates!!!

I purchased an HV** system from Choates in 2013. Every single summer since that purchase, the unit has had problems. I would call Choates to come out and they would, and of course every time they came out the cost would be at a minimum $150 or more....almost always MUCH MORE. It was always something with this unit. Instead of replacing an obviously faulty unit, Choates would put a band-aid on it. This summer, the unit started leaking through the ceiling and the whole house started shaking violently. Choates told me that I needed a new evaporator coil. After I agreed to take down a bad review off the internet, they agreed to replace the evaporator coil and charge me for the coil only and not for labor since it was within the 10 year warranty for parts. I waited weeks for the evaporator coil to come in, and during that time paid $100s of dollars to put freon in my unit to keep it running during the hottest part of the year. When the coil finally came in, Choates replaced it, charged me approx $1,900 and told me everything was working fine. The next morning, I turn on the ** and it doesn't work. Choates comes out and tells me that there's another problem and unless I fix it, the ** isn't going to work. I asked why this wasn't noticed the day before, and the excuse was...well the technician was focused on replacing the evaporator coil, so he just didn't notice it. Bottom line, I ended up having to pay another $2,000 to get a working **. In two days, Choates managed to steal almost $4,000 from me. I say steal because of the extremely shady business tactics Choates uses to extract as much money as possible from people who know nothing about HV** systems and must rely on what the technician tells them. I asked how much it would have cost for me to get a new unit and the technician tells me probably around $7 to $8,000. So, in two days I paid Choates over half of what it would have cost to replace the entire HV** system. DO NOT USE CHOATES!!! 5 starsThey were extremely covid protocol protected and install my HVAC . Their customer service is always great from this company. They put down plastic so it would not mess up my carpet and my hardwood floors.. Now my house in cool..Thanks again!!
