My 77yo mother contracted them to do a *** bath remodel. Matt * smooth talked her into it saying they did great work, would send a crew out, be there every day till completed, start in 3 weeks and be done 3 after. A year later, they started the job. It was never completed. Quality was poor. She was stood up 40+ days. They would even plan vacations and not even call her to tell her. She would wait on them to arrive and when she called the office or texted somebody she'd then be told they were on vacation. The "crew" was one man. They lied multiple times.
Nearly 2 years after being contracted, they still weren't done. They declared they were done, and neither Matt L or the owner, Christy **** had come to see their "finished" product and see that it was done or done right. My mother held payment. She had paid **** down and they held it the whole time. She would have cancelled long before, but the contract (fine print) says if you cancel, you owe them 50% of the project, so she'd still have to give them about ***** more and get nothing in return. So within 24hrs of them declaring the job complete, Matt * threatened to put a lien on the home. Most older people would likely cave in and pay up out of fear. I pushed my mom to hold the money and refuse. Matt * and Christy * finally came to the house and agreed the job was not done, and that quality wasn't good. They said they wanted to fix it, but we insisted that they give us a detailed list of what they would do, when they would start, a deadline, and penalties if they didn't get it done on time. This was because after so long, we felt no obligation to continue without it, and that they had multiple times refused to do many details that should have been assumed, but weren't specifically written in the contract. In the end, they filed lawsuit and lost in court!!!! It's over, and my mom didn't have to pay them anything more. See FB page Spencer ******* *or more details and pics.American Home Builders, LLC

According to the US Department of Commerce, construction and contracting businesses have the highest failure rate of any other business. Up to 96% of these companies fail before reaching 10 years in business. Our company has been in business for over 20 years. We haven't stayed in business this long by cutting corners, doing sub-standard work, and lying to our customers as Charlotte has suggested. As a matter of fact, we have thousands of happy customers who are pleased with our work and our company. Unfortunately, people like Charlotte are usually the only ones who take the time to submit reviews. When you purchase a new house, you walk in and everything is beautiful. During a remodeling project, you have to live every day with the mess, the noise, and the inconvenience. This obviously can be a very stressful experience. We do our very best to make the process as smooth and easy as possible. Unfortunately, most projects are not perfect due to the fact we are dealing with imperfect houses (hence the need to remodel in the first place) and imperfect people. We don't always do everything right the first time, but we always try to make it right. There were delays on both sides of this project which Charlotte conveniently fails to mention. At all times our company and our representatives have behaved professionally. On the other hand, Charlotte and her son have not done so. Her son was very rude, aggressive, condescending and was calling our installers derogatory names. We tried for months to try to reach a resolution with Charlotte, offering to fix the items that we admitted could have been done better. Unfortunately, she was not cooperative in the process, which led us to taking legal action. Her son got on my personal Facebook page, commenting on posts of me and my daughters, totally disparaging our company and myself personally. Both Charlotte and her son seemed to have a personal vendetta against me and the company. As I stated, we acted very professional and made no attempts to personally disparage either Charlotte or her son in spite of their behavior. Yes, we did lose in court and it was very disappointing. The fact that Charlotte represented herself gave her quite a bit of latitude in getting on her personal soap box and demonizing me and the company. But beating our company out of $****** was not enough for Charlotte and her son. They continue to harass our company on every social media outlet they can find. It is sad that they seem to get such personal satisfaction from trying to destroy a company. We are a small businesses made up of real people who depend on their job here to feed their families. Charlotte and her son do not seem to care about anything but pursuing their own personal vendetta. I would say businesses beware. There are so many sites online trying to protect customers from unsavory businesses, but there needs to be a site protecting businesses from unsavory customers. If there was, Charlotte should be at the top of the list.Spencer E

Personal vendetta? Seems your response was nothing but personal attacks. Mine was about you and your company's failure to follow through with promises by doing a quality, and tmely done job.
Post up the pictures we sent you and showed in court. Show the public how proud you are of the work. You won't do it, but I did.
You accused me of calling your workers derogatory names? I spoke to you and your workers 3 times. One was a pleasant conversation with Pep, One with Matt. The third, after threats were made to my mother by Matt, was not. You and him were present at this 3rd occasion. I explained the proper way to do something and in a smart tone of voice, Christy stated that maybe I should start my own business since I knew how to do it all. I replied that the work your company did looked like a crackhead did it. Get smart, get it back. Try to screw over a customer, you deserve it back.
As a business owner, you failed in every way. You should have been involved more, stopped by during the project, and found out how it was going. You should have returned phone messages about the problems. You should have verified completion and quality, especially before anybody threatened a lien on the house. You should have made things right, but you didn't. You tried to cheat my mother, and then complain somebody else attacks you "personally?" Yes, it is. Personal.
You think my mother had some advantage by not having a lawyer? She couldn't afford it, knowing she could have been ordered to pay you the full contract amount and pay somebody else to finish YOUR job. The lesson for you is that you may be able to afford a lawyer, but facts rule the courtroom. All a lawyer does is help show them. We had a better case, based on facts, including pictures of YOUR poor and unfinished work.
My family and I have been contacted by many others that were bullied by your company, gave in and paid, or in order to get some of their money back, signed an agreement not to speak about it to anybody. It sounds like bullying and refunding some "hush money" to silence the unhappy customers. Others need to be warned how your company operates.
Looking at reviews, it seems the company makes big promises of fast results to get a signed contract signed, then drags it out and starts months later, claiming material delays. You are in this business and should know more about the delays. Don't promise what you can't fulfill. I suspect the business model is to give high prices, hope customers cancel, and then get paid well for doing no physical work at all. If the customer doesnt cancel, you find somebody else to do the work. Sometimes you find a good contractor and sometimes you don't. That explains how you get some good reviews. In the end, YOU, as General Contractor, are responsible for that work, need to manage it, make sure your promises are fulfilled, and the job is done correctly. YOU failed to do all of those.
Buyer beware...THEIR CONTRACT STATES THAT IF YOU CANCEL YOU STILL PAY THEM 50% OF THE CONTRACT AMOUNT!!! It also has clauses that the project may be delayed, with no time limit. Read all the fine print that protects them and can screw the customer. As with any contract, detail it out. Write an addendum and reference it within their contract. Have them sign it. Add firm deadlines and penalties if they don't do it. If they won't agree, it's likely they are making promises they know they can't keep.
But wait.....there's moreReview fromJill J.
