The condensed version of my story:We rented in *********** ,** in late May and put down a $1500 damage deposit. Nothing was damaged (verified by the extremely apologetic owner) and VRBO states it could take up to 14 days for the refund. It is now 29 days and still no refund. I've spent roughly 4 frustrating hours with agents that speak very broken English and have not been able to resolve the issue. The owner has been in contact multiple times with her "owner ***** Still no money. Ironic that it took about 30 seconds to put in my credit card number and put the deposit down, yet getting it back has proven ridiculously difficult.

Will NEVER try VRBO again. Just retired and decided to travel to Europe. Rented a place in *****. But first used Vrbo for my daughter in ********. I don't want to write a long story but BOTH hosts were not only horrible , the worst part was VRBO customer service. They seems to have no power even though they facilitate the transaction. When paris ghosted us when trying to change the date our response from VRBO was, he's not answering us either. $1500 lost. NEVER AGAIN.

There is no accountability from either VRBO or their hosts when they cancel your reservation. I had booked and paid in full in February for a summer rental business trip. I booked so far in advance as I know the rental prices in that area double or triple the longer you wait. The host cancelled today. There is nothing available now within $3000 to the rental I had. The host did not reply to questions as to why it was cancelled. When I inquired it simply said not available. I made the reservation 5 months out! VRBO's "customer service" said they would help me to find something in the area- but have no responsibility in helping to cover any of the cost difference. So this business trip will end up costing me an extra ****** and neither the host or rental agency have any responsibility to their customers. If i could give a 0 star review I would.

I'm due a partial refund from an owner who denies I should get it even though I have proof I canceled in time for a partial refund. Vrbo said they called the owner twice and didnt get a response. I understand none of this is their fault but they also said they would contact me via email with the record of contact, etc and haven't received anything. Said there wasn't anything they could do about a refund.

This is the vastly shorter version due to character limits, I could type a research paper on how bad they are.Once you have a bad experience with Vrbo, it becomes obvious why they are not BBB accredited. Vrbo is a predatory, anti-consumer middleman that hides behind fine print and loopholes to pull off bait and switch tactics. Before you say I have used them before with no issues so had I. The problem starts when you finally do have an issue. They charge a service fee just to book, then offer zero protection if anything goes wrong. You are on your own. Their idea of customer service is a loop of deflection. *********** agents talk in circles, push you to the host, and hide behind vague policies. Their dispute team seems better trained at keeping your money than resolving anything.Vrbo is like paying money to use *********** but worse. The entire point of a service fee is some form of protection. Without it, what are you paying for?My experience was a nightmare and ruined what was supposed to be a vacation. They use a dynamic invoice system where even your receipt is just a live web page pulling data from their servers. It can change. You must screenshot every page, receipt, and message because nothing is guaranteed to stay the same. My price kept changing and support dragged things out until I was locked into a no refund period. They blame the host, but the host's pricing was actually stable and transparent.I was also forced to install a 3rd party app to complete the booking, which was never disclosed up front. Any single one of the issues may have been a deal breaker had I known ahead of time.Vrbo is like the perfect scam pretending to be a booking service. They design everything to look just legitimate enough to avoid regulation while still trapping customers in deceptive terms. They know the average person will not take legal action over a few hundred dollars, and they use that to their advantage. Do not give them your ********* have been warned.

We cancelled our reservation as per the policy but never received a refund. We contacted Vrbo customer service to address and were given the run around, including have to provide our CC statement to prove we did not received a refund. We cancelled the card because they have all the information. We will never use this service again.

We stayed at a vrbo house at ********************************************************************** and it was a truly horrible experience. The host started out nice by waiting for us to arrive. Now, for the problems: the place was dirty, there were bed bugs, no hot water in shower in 1 bathroom, the other sink had no hot water, the shower barely worked, advertised that had laundry that didn't work, the kitchen sink leaked, the host kept calling everyday, rang the doorbell at 7am in the morning, kept looking through the windows of the house (scary), a person was opening a door on another apartment in the complex with a knife, there were several large rats in the garbage disposal area, the floor was marked with gum spots, the cabinet door was missing from the kitchen sink area. I am not done yet, the host tried to charge use $2000 for pets we didn't have, they were visiting friends that travel was us and had stopped by for a visit. The host was extremely scary and the nice attitude last until 5 minutes after she showed us the place. Aviod this place at all costs, it isn't worth it.

We had a horrible experience with an advertised VRBO property. When I inquired with VRBO to state they shouldn't even have this place listed on their site, they "escalated" my case. I've been going back and forth with their customer service for a month (I have pictures, witnesses, etc.). The last email told me to contact the host directly because there wasn't anything they could do about a partial refund. Really? You advertise and collect money but can't do anything?
