I took my car into Audi of ********* on Saturday August 27. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle through an outside party. Once the service department at Audi performed the diagnostic check, there were certain problems that came up. The Service Advisor was very nice and worked with the Warranty Inspector to go over details of the claim. Both parties agreed and an authorization was given to do the work on the vehicle. Upon the pricing and the parts and the **************** went ahead and authorized the repairs. However, Audi of ********* called me to inform me that the warranty company agreed to do the repairs but then told me that there were some parts that the warranty company was only willing to accept wholesale price towards. I was told that Audi charged a little more for the parts and Audi of ********* said in order to do the repairs I'd (me as the customer) needed to pay the difference for the parts that the warranty company only allowed so much towards. I had agreed because I needed the car repaired and would have had to pay for a diagnostic service even if I had not gotten the car repaired by *****************. Audi of ********* charges warranty companies list price for their parts not wholesale or retail. Since the dealership signed a contract with the warranty company to perform the work for the agreed upon pricing plan, how is it ethical for the dealership to call the customer to tell them "Oh by the way, it's going to cost you a little more for us to fix it out of your pocket ". I feel like the service advisor and the Tech at the dealership are making sure their commission is maxed out and that's unfortunate. This practice does not happen for car accident repairs with major insurance companies so why should it happen with car warranty repairs. Even though a legal practice by dealerships, it skirts the line of ethics. Others be aware as it's not a good business practice.
