I asked Meadow Farms to do a hardscape project. It was building a 36 inch high retaining wall. It was completed in sept 2021, Unfortunately, a portion of the wall collapsed. I called and unfortunately the warranty was only for one year. I did ask other experts to take a look at my project and it was clear that the engineering of he wall was less than perfect. Instead of building the wall inwards to create pressure against the area it was holding up. Meadow farms basically did a straight up construction. I had added a different extension from a local contractor at much lower cost. Anyway, caveat emptor (buyer beware!) on this. Meadow Farms maybe terrific in selling plants. I suspect their hardscaping abilities are somewhat suspect. And always check the warranty. A company that gives only one year on hardscape is somewhat dubious. It means they themselves probably don't believe their structure will hold up.

I requested a proposal for providing mulch. I typically use 55-60 bags of black mulch, containing 2 cubic ft per bag...so 120 cubic ft max...at a cost of just under $4/bag...so an approximate cost of $250. The quote I received was $977.59 and specified "a 2-inch layer of black mulch in all plant beds. When I inquired with Meadows as to how much mulch their proposal included, they would only tell me "a 2-inch layer". I would expect them to be able to provide at least an approximate amount of mulch, since it is possible to do measurements which provide them the approximate square footage which they will cover at a 2-inch depth. Given the more than $700 discrepancy between my usual cost and, even allowing for perhaps 3 hours of labor, I am at a loss to understand how Meadows expects customers to accept such proposals and I view this, given the ambiguous nature of the product amount provided and a failure to provide a labor cost estimate, an example of price-gouging. An additional part of my request was for a tree transplant and I was told that on top of the transplant costs, despite no need for any delivery, there would be a "delivery fee" of $75 to cover fuel costs, etc. Again, to my mind, price-gouging.

      Rock of Ages - NOT.
Meadows Farms installed our front walk ($8,767 in 2012). The contract called for Blue Pacific Flagstone to match our front porch. Instead they used a gray stone that was never attractive and has deteriorated to the point it is dangerous. I can easily break off pieces with my hand, and it disintegrates into a muddy gray sand. Over the same time period, the stone on our front porch and back terrace, installed by a different contractor, has shown no wear. Meadows Farms says the walk's warranty is expired and will not help.
We have to replace the entire front walk. Since Meadows Farms won't do it, I found a contractor with high ratings who is replacing the walk for $6,500. I asked Meadows Farms if they would contribute any amount towards the walks replacement. The answer was pound sand, which our walk is turning into.

We gave the landscape designer our budget, and he was sure to spend every penny of it. Additionally, the workmanship of the crew was terrible - instead of putting anything down to block the growth of grass before laying the mulch, the crew planted our new plants, then laid mulch right on top. There is so much grass growing up through the mulch now in less than 2 weeks following the work it's awful! I could have saved tons of money and done that kind of lousy job myself.
