My vehicle, a ****** Camry, was towed by Dominion Towing on May 10, 2025, at approximately 2:15 AM from the Point at ******* parking lot. The posted signage at the location simply states No Overnight Parking without any defined hours, making the restriction ambiguous and unclear. I arrived to retrieve my car at 4:30 AM, indicating that I did not intend to park through the full night. This lack of specificity in signage fails to provide adequate notice of when towing would occur and may violate *********************************** regulations, which require clear and detailed signage. I was charged a total of $230, which included a $20 VA Fuel Surcharge. According to Fairfax County Code 82-5-32, there is no provision for such a surcharge, and the maximum allowable chargesincluding towing, after-hours, and weekend feesshould not exceed $210. I attempted to contact Dominion Towing by phone the morning of the incident to dispute the charges but received no response. I am requesting a refund of the $20 overcharge and a review of the towing action given the unclear signage.

      Business Response

      Date: 05/15/2025

Attached are four photos for this tow. The one named Untitled is a screenshot from the VA State code. The highlighted section references the $20 fuel surcharge and it clearly states that the fee may not be limited or prohibited by any local governing body. The photos labeled 1 and 2 are from the property where this person was towed (note, the property changed names but the layout is the same) and the highlighted section is two signs posted that are the required signage. Those signs state that towing is enforced 24/7.  Photo 3 shows the vehicle and the markings on the ground. The ground clearly states "retail" and none of the retail shops are open at 2:15AM when the vehicle was towed. While the interior sign may state no overnight parking, it's not required to have hours and with the retail shops closed the customer was clearly not a retail customer. We respectfully decline the refund.

At midnight on Sunday April 13, 2025, Dominion Towing, Inc. towed my vehicle from a private parking lot where I live. Since I am disabled, my vehicle has window tint so it is likely they did not see the permit especially since they chose to come at the darkest time of night to avoid having to do the right thing and leave the car alone. My largest issue is with how Dominion handled the situation. The vehicle had been parked for 3 days, just about half a week but they chose to tow it on a weekend, after hours so that they could claim extra fees. They also charged a VA fuel charge which is for vehicles that are trespassing which mine was not as they couldve confirmed with the leasing office. After they took my vehicle and charged nearly a quarter of $1,000 to retrieve for only 12 hours it sat on their lot as, not just me but, the entire east coast slept, their receptionist did not allow me to retrieve my wallet from the car prior to payment which is not legal. She was too concerned with the word choice we used for Dominions actions. She wanted us to say it was towed and not stolen. Why she would refuse me personal property that I am entitled to by law is beyond my understanding and hopefully that of her employer as well. Since it was on private property and I live in a safe neighborhood I did not see the issue with my wallet being in the car; not until this incident. I would like a refund for the dishonestly charged extra fees ($80) added on to the $150 in addition to $100 refunded for an improper tow of an AWD vehicle with an engaged parking brake, that resulted in a nail in my back tire, and proof the car did not have a permit. If they do not have proof of the vehicle not having a permit, Id like the last $50 refunded too. I respect an honest business that does their work in an honest manner. Waiting days to tow a car to charge extra fees is not honest though. Had it been towed during the day, Id have respectfully came out and showed the proof.

The complainants vehicles was towed for not having a parking sticker displayed  for the community they live in. They provided a lease and insurance but no evidence of the parking sticker. We take photos of the vehicle prior to tow and there was no sticker.

In the lease the resident provided, on page 4 of the "Community policies and Rules. Page 4 of 6" it states under "Vehicles and Parking" that vehicles without a properly displayed Resident or Guest parking permit may be towed away without any notice at the vehicle owner's expense and risk. It continues on to state all vehicles must have a permit displayed at all time.

As for the towing fees- all fees are set and regulated by the government. The tow fees and applicable towing codes are posted at our place of business for trespass tows.

I have attached photos of the vehicle before tow to prove there was no permit displayed, as well as a photo of the vehicle being transported on dollys because it is AWD. Although the complainant didn't claim damage, they claim it was improperly towed.... not sure how or why they made that accusation if they didn't were asleep like the rest of the east coast and no one witnessed it.

To summarize, I have provided information and pictures to prove the complainant has provided a false claim and request the BBB to remove this complaint from the business profile. The BBB can not post false claims.

       Complaint: 23222217

I am rejecting this response because:
The vehicle has always had a parking permit on the window tint and they did not address why it was parked for 3.5 days and they waited until the time they did so they could add extra fees; which by the way, the limits for fees are regulated by the city, not your price. If you want to tell the truth, tell the whole truth. They also did not address why my wallet was withheld at pickup. Dominion was illegally in possession of and then withholding federal property (military ID) when they did not allow me to retrieve my wallet before payment. I do not see any pictures as proof the vehicle was towed properly but I do see the back tires were dragged from the pictures that I took on their lot. Not sure why they think people that werent present for a crime cant read between the lines and figure out what happened from seeing pictures and dirt all over the side of the car at a trajectory that would only indicate the back tires were down during the tow. Thats why I made the claim I did and I stand by it. The BBB can and will post this because Dominion Towing is predatory and military personnel and others living nearby need to be aware.

I rented a car over the weekend and parked at my apartment's visitor parking spot. Because the apartment rental office was closed, I could not get a visitor parking tag from them. So I wrote a note explaining this and left it on my windshield. They towed anyway, and would not let me have my car until I paid $230. This is absolutely predatory and criminal. Look at their ****** reviews for proof. It's their business model to steal cars and force people to pay to get them back.

Complainant parked their vehicle in a private community that has a parking policy. All vehicles must be registered with the proper parking permit and if they do not have the permit then they will get towed and have to pay the impound fees, all of which are regulated. Complainant broke the law and was a trespassing a vehicle not registered with the property owner. I am requesting this complaint be deleted from our business profile as the complainant has suggested criminal activity without providing any evidence to support their claim, which is slander.

       Complaint: 23200638

I am rejecting this response because:

The vehicle in question was not transpassing private property. The property is a place of my residence that I pay timely rent for every month. The note on the dashboard clearly stated that. The reason a temporary permit could not be acquired was because the apartment leasing office is closed on the weekends. My car was towed on Sunday night. Dominion towing assumed the note was lying and towed it. I have also taken this issue up with the management of my apartment, but the primary responsibility lies with Dominion towing, whose people hide behind a 1" thick plexiglass and extort lawful citizens who just want to park in their place of residence and get to work on time.

This company stole my car from my apartment lot despite having the appropriate parking decal properly displayed. When I got upset and told them to bring my car back, they claimed they checked and didnt see a decal. When I arrived I was told they did see the sticker and I would get my car back for free. Thats obvious. When I demanded payment for my **** the lady was rude and said Id have to call management. She also tried to blame me for their sloppy mistake, which is unacceptable. This business is shady and not professional. They do not take good care in assessing situations and they are horrible to deal with. Stealing a car is a crime and that is exactly what they did.

On January 3, 2025, Dominion Towing removed my 2015 *** 328i from a private parking lot using a wheel-lift (dolly) tow truck, despite ***'s explicit instructions that the vehicle must be towed with flatbed only. I contacted the company to request legally required documentation and express concern about improper towing damaging my vehicle. Company representative **** ******* responded with an unprofessional, combative email refusing to provide documentation, denigrating my vehicle as "neglected" and "high mileage," and insisting their methods were proper. Mr. ******* further claimed the company has representatives on the Towing *************** suggesting this affiliation places them above reproach. I believe Dominion Towing has violated county/state towing regulations, deliberately disregarded manufacturer towing guidelines, and is abusing its Towing ************** connections to evade accountability for misconduct and potentially damage to my vehicle. I request a full investigation into these improper practices and inappropriate industry influence over regulators, a complete refund of all towing charges, and additional compensation for any damage to my vehicle caused by the company's reckless refusal to follow proper towing procedures.

      Business Response

I attached a screenshot of this vehicle being dollied in the parking space. At NO time were the wheels of this vehicle on the ground during tow. The front two wheels were on the lift of the truck, and the back two were lifted by dollies. When a vehicle manual says you need a flat bed, they are just saying your wheels should not be rolling on the ground, not that an actual flatbed has to be used. We understand most vehicle owners are not familiar with the towing process or best practices, but we did attempt to explain this to Mr. ******** to no avail. Furthermore, the mentioning of us sitting on the tow boards is not an intimidation tactic, it's simply pointing out that we are a company who follows the laws. One of the links in the email took the customer to the tow video of their vehicle, from before we hooked up to their car, to us leaving it at our facility where the vehicle owner retrieved it. We have responded to every complaint this customer has put forth and the bottom line is we didn't damage the vehicle and we are not paying for damage to a vehicle that we didn't cause.

My car was unethically towed from a residential parking lot with no clear rules of enforcement stated anywhere obviously visible. This happened on September 11, 2024 at 11:57 pm. This was my first time ever visiting the area, ************ Condominiums in ******, **, and my car got towed and I was given a hefty fine of $200. The resident I was visiting had to drive me during the night for me to get my vehicle released at September 12, 2025 at 12:27 am, so 30 minutes later. I clearly had no plans of staying overnight and when I was attempting to leave could not find my vehicle. As I tried discussing and potentially disputing the charge with the company by calling them at their customer service number, they were incredible rude to me. When I tried explaining that there were other vehicles in the lot that did not have any parking permits displayed and yet mine was towed while those were not, one of the managers I was speaking with had a hostile tone and blatantly accused me of lying and told me to hang up the phone and threatened to block my number if I called them back. I did not harass this business in any way. He was only the 2nd ****** out of 3 people I spoke to and I was merely trying to get an explanation for why my vehicle was towed while other vehicles remained there and to check if I could at least get a reduced tow fine/charge for a first time offense. My only desired resolution between the business and I is a full or partial refund for not only the unethical towing, in my opinion, but more importantly the incredibly rude way I was treated on the phone for politely asking questions regarding my towing invoice.

      Business Response

I have reviewed the details of this complaint. ****** *********** paid to retrieve a vehicle that was towed from a private community, Park Terrace Condominiums, for No Permit Displayed. The customer picked the vehicle up around *******, and then called our office later that day during business hours to speak with management. I personally spoke with this customer and explained to him that the fees are set and regulated, and that it isn't just about how long we have the vehicle. We could have the vehicle for 1 minute at our facility and it's the same price as if we had it for 23 hours and 59 minutes. The same risk is involved in towing, as is the same insurance requirements and staffing requirements. The customer didn't like my answer and just wanted me to refund him all, or at least some, of his tow fee. When I told him no, he wanted to escalate it. He then spoke with ******. ****** basically told him the same thing, but he was telling ****** there were other cars parked there at the same time as him without permits. ****** asked him if he had photos showing those vehicles and all of the windows proving they didn't have a permit, and he didn'*. ****** then told him that regardless of how other people are parked, the fact was he did not have a parking permit which is why he was towed. He didn't like ******** answer either and then called back again and spoke with someone else. That person told him that ****** was the highest up he was able to get and that he would not be refunded and if he continued calling, he would be blocked. I don't feel as though anyone was rude to this customer. He was unhappy that he didn't get the refund he was asking for, but that doesn't mean anyone was rude to him. Since the tow was valid, and his complaint was irrelevant, he was not and will not be issued a refund.

Dominion Towing towed my car from a reserved parking space for which I pay. Dominion Towing states that I did no have my tag in the window. The tag fell off and was clearly visible from the window. Regardless, I understand from the complex in which I live that Dominion Towing has a secondary system with each license plate associated with reserved spaces. Dominion's tow trucks have internet access where the license can be checked to ensure that the car being towed is not registered to the space. I have no issue with towing from a general unreserved parking area or handicap area where a car does not belong. For example, if someone leaves a car overnight in an unreserved space where an ID is required ******************** is legitimate. However, taking my car from the space for which I pay each month is predatory. I want a refund, otherwise I will bring this into court, and will identify others who have experienced the same practice for a larger action. I also spoken with contacts in the media - there is interest and this appears to be a problem throughout the ***********.

      Good afternoon,

Dominion Towing is contracted by the management company to enforce the parking rules and regulations. Complainants vehicle was parked in a reserved carport space and did not display a valid reserved space permit. I have attached a photo to verify. Because complainants vehicle did not have a valid pass displayed it is in violation and subject to towing. I am the account manager for this community and I'm not aware of the complainants claim that we have internet access to view resident info. I would like to request a copy of that, can the complainant please provide to confirm his claim?

The attachment provided is a child's school records and has nothing to do with this tow or complaint. This clearly shows the BBB does not review claims submitted.

I can be reached at ************ to discuss further.

My car was towed in error. I am seeking reimbursement for the towing costs/fees as well as the **** fees occurred to obtain my car. I have attached pictures for your review. I came in from out of town on Thursday, 1/18/24. My sister, *** ******* and her roommate ****** live at *** ***** *********, Apt ***, Alexandria VA. ****** had purchased the parking pass for me from the ****** ****** office on 1/18/24. She was given that parking pass shown as well as a post it note showing the building number, apt number and space number to be used. It snowed all day Friday and we never left the apartment. On Sat, 1/20/24 at appx 11:30, I went to the parking lot and discovered it was gone. We were informed my car had been towed. I asked why the car was removed and was told that "someone called and stated I was in her space and they are contracted to tow that car when this happens". I had to return home Sunday, 1/21/24 so I had to get a **** to bring me to the towing yard and pay for the release of my car. I have since spoken to the management at ****** ****** as well as to ***** & ****** at Dominion. I was informed a ******* **** called stating I was in her space. I have confirmed the Jennifer Howa does not reside in ****** ****** and no one knows anyone by this name. This was confirmed with the ****** ****** office as well as with ***** with ***. I was also informed that snow had been wiped from the rear window to check for a permanent parking pass but no snow was removed from any other windows to verify if there was a parking pass in the front hanging from the rear-view mirror WHICH THERE WAS. It was still there when I picked up my car as well.

Dominion Towing is the tow provider for ************* Condo. ************* has provided specific details and a code for us to verify when a resident calls us to remove a vehicle from their space. I verified the procedure was followed for this particular tow. ************* Management was not familiar with the person calling in for the tow nor are they aware of the complainants sister living in this unit. The ****** the complainant was visiting is managed by *************** and it seems as though they have had different residents over time that received the code to provide for towing.        I did receive a refund for the amount of the towing fee. However, I was informed this was only being done as a courtesy and the refund did not take place until 1/31/24.  The cost I incurred for the Lyft fees was not reimbursed.  A full explanation of the verification process was not provided nor was why my car was still towed even with the proper valid placement of a parking pass.  I was told there are inconsistences with the records and reports of this issue between Dominion and *************.  Somehow that has become my problem and most likely anyone else with a similar issue parking in this complex.

My spouse was parked in a visitors parking spot with a parking pass date 10/22/2023. By convention I thought the pass was good until the end of the day. The car was towed at 9:02 pm. I feel Dominion Towing's practices are predatory and harmful.

      Good afternoon,

We do not have a customer listed with this name. It sounds as though the BBB is allowing people to submit complaints for others. Please delete this claim from our business profile.

I can be reached at ************ if you need to discuss further.

      Business Response

      Date: 11/09/2023

      Hello,

I disagree with the BBB allowing a complaint to be submitted by a party other than our customer.

Dominion Towing Inc provides services to private communities and impounds vehicles that are illegally parked according to the parking rules/policies. The complainant states her spouse parked his car with a permit dated the 22nd and was towed before the end of the day. The vehicle that was impounded had a permit displayed that had been altered, anyone using a falsified permit is subject to be towed. The vehicle owner should have requested a new pass from the community instead of changing the date himself. I have attached a copy of the permit that was being used and the clear violation.

Dominion Towing has a contract with the community where this vehicle was towed from. Towing signs are posted at all entrances at this community as required by Fairfax County code, and the tow fees are regulated as well. Dominion Towing followed all applicable laws, therefore the complainant is not entitled to any refund.

I would be happy to explain the parking rules to the complainant and answer any questions. I can be reached at ************.

      Sincerely,
