      Unethical practices.
Terrible customer service experience during request for HELOC and loan. Checking account debit card compromised and no info on how our information was stolen. You have to call and speak to customer service to order debit cards and set up pins. They block access to mobile deposit if you have 1 chargeback within 5 years, (I do upwards of 10 mobile deposits per month). You have to submit a written request via mail or email to unblock. Customer service is untrained, unethical and speak from a script. Supervisors have no proper recourse and cant assist at customer service level. They’re behind the curve and utilize ancient CU policy and procedures. Do yourselves a favor and research other banks and credit unions before doing business with them.

I was a long time customer of Penfed - and had a HELOC for over ten years at my prior house. I bought a new house, sold the old one, and needed a new Heloc. Despite the fact I got in all paperwork on time, have PLENTY of combined W2 and investment income to support the loan - Alex K********* loan officer lied to me and was very condescending in his attitude. I will never deal with Penfed again due to him. How he is still employed is a mystery - other than Penfed has very low standards apparently. He went back and forth saying he could do the loan, then couldn't, then asked his loan person and they said he could do it. Then he told me I could do it over email. He knew I was out of town overseas very busy with a family emergency, with no cell service. He said no problem. I returned and he had closed out my loan! Then he had the nerve to say it was my fault! He claimed we NEVER had that conversation and that I made it up! What an asshole and complete moron he is. I called the main department and they said they can still do the loan no problem - but their interest rates had more than DOUBLED within literally 2 weeks on the Heloc I was applying for. They acted like it was no big deal. I found another company willing to do the loan for close to the original rate quoted two weeks ago. He was claiming I didn't have enough income - because he was using my W2 income - and forgot to include my huge amount of investment income - that both he and the HEloc main loan dept told me was fine to count. They still say it's fine to count - he was just so incompetent he kept forgetting to include it and forgot he had the conversation in detail with me about his underwriter telling him he could include it. I make more money than he will ever make so maybe that's why he feels the need to condescend - but whatever it is, he has lost Penfed many customers because I have a lot of influence and will be spreading the word about their incompetence.

0 stars if it were possible. I’m now 6 months straight with some sort problem with PenFed accepting my monthly payment.
Even resorted to auto withdrawal to avoid the headache and to avoid being in the phone w them.
Now, instead of my monthly payment being made.. they took 2 payments ($1000) and said they don’t know why it happened AND will take a WEEK to get the money back.
PenFed is TERRIBLE. I’d rather have a higher rate where I was instead of this lower rate and have to deal w this jackass of a union.

I am in process of accepting their credit card offer as my husband did a few weeks ago. He was not asked to do any of the things I am being required to do. Didn't even do a "Hard" credit check on him. I guess because I am a woman they don't trust my information? Definitely being treated differently! I don't need their card and will not continue to apply. At this point wondering if I was spammed!!

My mom recieved this letter from penfed credit union saying she applied for credit. My mom passed away June 4, 2022. I called Cenfed asking them who applied for credit, i told them my mom passed 3 days before this approval letter was sentl. The letter was so believable even providing Experian phone, hinting they pulled credit from them and listing a credit score of 747. The lady on the phone act like she was collecting debt, i asked her why were they targeting older people for their homes? Why are they lying to older people as if they trying to steal their life saving. If my mom didnt have a daughter or a person helping her in her older years, these people would have took against of her. I would like to know who to report them too, they have so many complaints and some older people would not know how to protect themselves. ONE more thing, they transfer around on phone, so you never talk to a supervisor..

I would give 0 stars if I could... I applied a payment of $1500.00 on 07/02/22 towards my credit card because of a 0% interest charge set to expire on 07/06/22 of $1423.00 Pen Fed apply 500 to that amount and the other 1,000 to a more recent balance that also had 0% SO instead of being free and clear of the amount that was subject to an 18% interest rate They applied 500 to it and say I STILL owe 1000 that now they are charging 18% I HAVEN'T WORKED FOR THE LASY 9 MONTHS DUE TO A DISABILITY they didn't care that I borrowed that initial payment money from someone who I now have to figure out how I'm going pay back on top of getting SCREWED by PENFED then I spoke to a manager who just said it is what it is. I WILL NEVER USE PENFED NOR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE!
