Aug 29, 2023 I subscribed to Ranger Rick magazine for my grandson. A pop up box asked if I also wanted to send two books for an additional small fee. After checkout, I discovered it was a subscription. Sept 20 I was informed two books were shipped. They were never received. Oct 12 I cancelled subscription. Oct 23 my charge card was charged for two addition books. Oct 23 I contacted them again and told them to cancel my subscription effective Oct 12 and remove the charge. I had to dispute the charge to get it removed from my bill. I never received the books. Oct 23 I was informed the subscription was cancelled and no further charges would be made. Oct 25 I was again informed books had been mailed. They were never received. Dec 5 I received another invoice and told them the subscription had been cancelled. Dec 12 another invoice was sent. My grandson is receiving and enjoying the magazine. The complaint is for the book club only. It was deceptive not to be up front that it was a book subscription. I have never received any books and continue to be billed.Business Response

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation caused. In checking the account, a full refund was processed on 12/06/2023. Originally there was an error when processing the refund. The balance of the refund was processed on 12/06/2023. A replacement request has been submitted for the original two book set. Please reach out to Ranger Rick Customer Care at [email protected] if the two book set does not arrive in the next 4-6 weeks. Please note the books you will receive are actually magazines not hard back books. When researching the book club order the magazine order placed at the time as the book club order and delivering to the same address there were no comments on the account for missed issues of the magazine or delivery problems.

I just wrote a very long complaint and it disappeared! Bottom line, these guys are rip offs, I have tried to cancel and told them I NEVER want to see a Ranger Rick advertisement or magazine again but they KEEP sending them to me and start AUTOMATIC subscriptions, there is no way out. If they do stop it is for a few months then they'll start all over. They continually sent 2 of the same subscriptions to one of my grand daughters but never acknowledged this, also. I am so sick of Ranger Rick harrassing me with adds and automatic renewals and have spent way too much money on them! My grandchildren are grown up now and don't want this magazine, please help - it seems like they'll never stop. I just got another notice in mail saying: "As a Premier Member your gift subscription will AUTOMATICALLY renew at the low retail price of $34.95 for one year and we'll AUTOMATICALLY charge your credit card as YOU requested." All I requested was to get off of ALL of their lists and subscriptions and that was YEARS ago. No where on the postcard does it say HOW to cancel, no phone number or email address or website. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation caused. The order in question was enrolled in the Auto Renewal program which will atomically renews the subscription before expiring. With this program there are several communications sent to alert the customer of the upcoming charges. Per the customers request the account has been removed from the Auto Renewal Program, marked as Stop gift auto renewal, Do not promote as a recipient, No sweepstakes promotions, No gift promotions, Stop single auto renewal, and No phone solicitations.

On 08/17/2023 I ordered the Ranger Rick Dinosaur Magazine for my grandson. As of the middle of October he hadn’t received a copy yet. I called Ranger Rick and was told the first edition would be sent out by mid-November. As of 11/29 he has yet to receive a single copy. Called this morning and their representative said they’d cancel the order and prorate the $15.00 amount I paid to $10.00 stating he HAD received a copy which is totally untrue. They eventually agreed to refund the full amount. They then went on to read an obvious pre-prepared statement about all the issues that have been happening such as problems with the delivery system, etc. I asked how soon I’d see the refund on my statement. Instead I was told I’d receive a check in two to three weeks. Totally ridiculous to hold on to people’s money for months with the consumer having not to show for it. Sounds kind of sketchy to me. Seeing the complaints here I see I’m not alone in this matter. What really concerns me is how many people would accept the prorated amount or just totally forget they had even ordered the subscription, receive nothing and never are refunded. inconvenience this situation caused. In looking at the account the issues are noted as being shipped. If the shipping address is confirmed with the customer and the magazines continued to not be delivered it is suggested the customer check with their local Post Office to confirm there are no delivery issues there with delivery. Given the customer had not received any
issues, the order in question has been fully refunded as of 12/13/2023. The customer should have received the full refund. A refund can take up to two weeks depending
on processes and the type of refund. This is true especially if the refund provided is in the form of a check. This refund was provided to the customer CC and they should have received the refund within 5-7 business days. I have been charged 18.88 one to two times each month since june that I didn't authorize and it's supposed to be for books from them and none of them have been sent out. I did contact them and they pretty much said that we have tracking information and stuff like that and never gave me that information. They just charge on the 27th of September two times for 18.88 which I also didn't authorize. I ended up having our debit cards changed because they keep charging a debit card that expired in June of 2023 somehow.Business Response

In researching the account, it was found that ****************** ordered Ranger Rick Dinosaurs magazine on 06/15/2023 and was offered an upsell offer to Ranger Rick Jr. Book Club with a special intro price of $6.95. From *** *******’s statement it seems this was done by mistake. Each of the book sets shipped included a pre enotification of the upcoming charge and an enotification when the charge is about to be applied. A request for a full refund has been submitted for all charges associated with the Ranger Rick Book Club.

In the fall of 2022, I subscribed to Ranger Rick and purchased 1-year magazine subscriptions for 3 of my grandchildren. A few months later, I started recieving renewal notices far ahead of the renewal date of the fall of 2023. I called and requested the renewals not be sent until a month or two before the expiration dates. I was assured they would stop but they didn't. So, I called and cancelled the subscriptions in late April / early May. Ranger Rick charged my card again, so I called on June 5th and spoke with '****'. **** confirmed that the subscriptions were cancelled, and a credit would be issued. I received the credit within a couple of weeks. On August 14, 2023, Ranger Rick charged my credit card again in the amount of $26.70. I called Ranger Rick today (8/21) once I saw the charge and again spoke with an '****'. Again, I was told that a credit would be issued, that the subscriptions were cancelled and that I would receive an email confirming the details of our discussion. **** stated that the 6/5 'cancellation ' did not get processed even though she told me it had during our conversation on that day (6/5). At a minimum, this is a bad business practice and it would seem that charging my credit card after confirming the subscriptions were cancelled may be unlawful.Business Response

Good morning, I read the business response and it is the same as previous responses I made directly to the business. We recently had another unauthorized charge to our card which, at the surface, appears to be related to the business. The transaction is being researched at this time. Because of this, we've gone through the effort of cancelling the card we've been using and updating the various companies that have been using it.
I will not 'accept' the business response as it does not meet the requested actions I made while submitting this complaint.
However, for the BBB records, this matter can be considered closed since the credit card is no longer valid.

I ordered The Ranger Rick magazine on 4/23/23 to be sent to my grandson. It is now August 17 and he still hasn't received a copy. But they have emailed me to renew the subscription. I called customer service and finally had to ask for a supervisor. She said the first copy just got mailed out.4 months later! His sisters get Highlights magazines, but their mother is holding them because he didn't get one. The supervisor will not send back issues. They don't care. Customer service sucks .AND, they only deliver bi-monthly. I did not see any mention of that when I ordered.Business Response

Please accept our most sincere apologies for this and any incontinence
this has caused. It seems from what was provided by ****** ******* – ******** and
researching the accounts the customer had two accounts and enrolled in the Ranger Rick book club
when ordering the magazine subscriptions for grandchildren in August 2022.
A gift subscription to Ranger Rick Jr. was received in
August 2022. She was charged $16.46 at
that time. June 2023 a refund for $4.94 was
processed. This was done via email. This refund was applied to the ****** *******’
credit card, however, it does show on the recipient account in *****.
An order for the Ranger Rick Book Club was also received in

Customer Service was able to pull the August call. In the call the subscriber had said she was
receiving three copies. With this information the CSR searched again and found
a second account listed with just her first name. The orders were placed online.
The duplicate account for the RRJ book club is *******.
There were two charges, $7.37 and $17.89.
These were both refunded in October 2022.
The duplicate accounts for RRJ have been combined. The second account had a charge of
$15.98. This subscription was auto
renewed in August 2023 for $26.57. This
order has been cancelled and the charge of $26.57 is now being refunded to her

Rick Jr. was received in August 2022. Customer was charged $16.46 at that

duplicate account for the RRJ book club is *******. There were two charges,
$7.37 and $17.89. These were both refunded in October 2022. The
duplicate accounts for Ranger Rick Jr. magazine have been combined. The second
account had a charge of $15.98. This subscription was auto renewed in
August 2023 for $26.57. This order has been cancelled and the charge of
$26.57 is now being refunded to her credit card.

I enrolled in the magazine subscription for a year and was offered an additional membership in a book club for my child. The book club was an additional cost, that appeared to be a yearly cost. Since February, they have been billing me $18.88 per month without email notifications. I just noticed it on my credit card receipt. The “book club” apparently is an extra magazine that is smaller than the actually Ranger Rick, Jr. and would be about $1.50 in any bookstore or short stop.Business Response
