I called Roto Rooter on Dec. 23 to snake a bathroom drain that had overflowed. The company could not send a plumber until Dec. 26. The plumber came on Thursday, Dec. 26, and said that he needed to call his boss because he could not deal with the problem. His boss came, I believe the next morning and said the bathroom and kitchen below needed to be mitigated. He came with a crew on Dec. 30 and they began tearing out the bathroom floor. Meanwhile, *****, the boss, handed me 3 different agreements to sign. He said he was in a hurry but I took time to read them. I noticed that the amount was not filled in, but I foolishly signed the agreement, thinking that he didn't know the amount yet. When I went back to read the copy he returned to me, the amount had been filled in as $9,000. The 2-man crew, one a teenager, began tearing out the bathroom tile floor. They had to quit early and didn't finish tearing out the floor but did set up an air cleaner and fans in the bathroom and kitchen. The next ***, ***** called to say the ******* had Covid and couldn't come until he was well. ***** called 2 days later to say I could turn off the fans. I removed the fans and saw that the subfloor had been damaged, as well as cracked tile along the base of the shower. I called ***** to cancel their work and pick up the fans and air cleaners. When I received a $3821.93 bill from Roto Rooter, I asked 5 times for an itemized bill. The company has refused to give me a bill that explains their charges in dollar amounts. I am attaching their invoice. The air filter and fan units can be purchased on ****** for $2400. The workmen were not skilled laborers. They did not wear HAZMAT suits or even masks. The way the boss, *****, had me sign a contract was rushed and without explanation. He filled in the amount after I had signed the agreement without telling me. I feel that I have been totally scammed. I have attached copies of emails.
