Back in Jan/Dec of 2024 i got an oil change on my 2021 Honda Pilot. Shortly after the service I noticed some oil leaking from my vehicle. I finally decided to get the leak checked out because the fluid kept leaking from my vehicle. The dealership immediately noticed that my oil was leaking due to the drain plug being tightened too much, stripping the threads. They recommended a new O-ring, new oil pan, etc. The cost of the repairs would have been around $1200. I went back to Grease Monkey the next week and asked them to resolve and to make all of the repairs ***** had suggested. They refused and just replaced the drain plug s**** with a longer s**** Grease Monkey also said they would make note in their system to be aware of the new s**** and to be careful. I told them that this was not good enough and I want the changes to be done in order to get the car back into the shape it was before I ever brought into Grease Monkey. They refused and thats why I am reaching out now. I would like for Grease Monkey to pay for the repairs for the damage they caused to my vehicle.

Customer took his vehicle to a dealership for non related repairs.  While at the dealership the dealer technician noticed a leaking oil plug.  While attempting stop the leak he "tightened" the plug. When doing so he took a properly torqued plug and overtightened it, stripping the threads. When the dealer technician found the threads on the oil plug didn't hold to the amount of torque he applied, he assumed the previous oil change technician (4 months prior) must have been at fault.   The dealership proceeded to quote the customer to replace the entire oil pan ($1,200) instead of repairing the threads in the pan and replacing the damaged oil plug and gasket.

Soon after this incident (I believe the next day) the customer brought the vehicle to our shop.  We verified the oil plug was still leaking.  We removed the damaged plug, repaired the threads in the pan, installed a new gasket and new drain plug.  We then torqued the new plug to manufactures recommended torque (30 lbs-ft) and verified the plug no longer leaked.

I later spoke to the customer and explained we fixed the problem the dealer caused.  He didn't believe we actually fixed the problem and insisted we pay to have someone else fix it. I explained the proof the problem was fixed is we repaired the damaged pan threads with a thread chaser tap and installed a new plug and gasket. We then applied the full amount of torque to the plug recommended by the manufacturer.  After this it no longer leaked.  I further explained if the threads where still damaged, the plug wouldn't hold the full amount of torque, they would continue to rotate/strip.  I offered to ****** him into our shop pit and show him the plug holds the full amount of torque (30 lbs-ft) and was no longer leaking.  He declined, however, he did verify the plug no longer leaks.

I believe this entire misunderstanding was caused by a dealership mechanic over tightening the drain plug instead of replacing the leaking plug gasket.

I am rejecting this response because:

I want my car fixed the way the dealership explained it needs to be fixed. Grease Monkeys response is we put a note in our system to be extra careful when with your car because we put in a longer s**** Thats not a long term fix. Thats also admitting to the mistake and potential issues it may cause.  I dont want to keep having to go back to Grease Monkey because they *****-rigged my car with a longer s**** that can cause more Issues down the road.

    Sincerely,
