After canceling my trial period for iStock, I was charged on 12/14/2023 for a year's membership. Getty Images denies that I canceled my trial subscription and is refusing to refund the charge.

      Business Response

      Date: 12/20/2023

Our offer is transparent and straightforward; there's nothing hidden or misleading about it. At iStock, we clearly outline that new customers can enjoy 10 free downloadable images as part of a trial connected to an annual subscription. These 10 free trial images can be selected during the first month (the trial month) exclusively. Our terms explicitly state that it is the customer's responsibility to cancel the paid subscription before the free trial period ends. During the trial period, customers can request to cancel by reaching out to **************** or by utilizing the self-service option. Please note that the self-service option is no longer available once the free trial ends.

I wanted a single image for an article I wanted to write. I am not a business person, just an individual.I found an image on iStock but had to sign up for a free trial to get the image. I did so and contacted Support because I was not able to cancel before the trial was over. I had a hard time finding the cancel link, and then it even disappeared. They billed me $70 and will continue to do so every month with no way to cancel ever during that time. A clear violation of contract law. I told them I am disabled and this is a terrible hardship and I did not know it was going to be $70 every month. It was a one time thing for the free trial. They refused to help me. I could not find the cancel button as it did not work, and then it disappeared. FRAUD They dont give any option to cancel as many hundreds of people - or thousands - have discovered. I found a legal advocate for seniors that have been defrauded online, and they will be filing charges with the ************** attorney general if I do not get Resolution. I am a bedbound senior citizen, and my disability includes vision. If I knew this was the case I never would have gotten this scam trial. Something has to be done about this company and Im shocked to find out that somebody whose name is out there is so crooked. Organized crime will always take advantage of people that cant afford things and this is no different. The comparison cannot be avoided.

Here are the details of what occurred between me and the company named iStock (owned by Getty Images):On October 10th, 2023, I signed up for a free trial with iStock to download 10 images free for that month, as advertised. I downloaded one image that day and did not use the service again. When I signed up for the trial, iStock automatically signed me up for a Premium 1-Year subscription without advertising the different plans, such as monthly subscriptions. I automatically agreed to the terms by merely hitting the "Checkout" button. There wasn't a box to click saying that you've read the terms and agreements.I didn't cancel the free trial. One month later, I received an invoice by email saying that I had already paid $70.00 for my subscription for November. I wasn't given a notice or a reminder that my free trial was ending. There are specific laws that state that you must be given a notice that the trial is ending and the payments are starting. There is no way to cancel your subscription online besides turning off "auto-renew." So far, I have paid the company $140.00 for my subscription for the months of November and December. After my 1-Year subscription ends, the total amount paid will be $770.00. I have reached out to customer service in a friendly manner asking to cancel my subscription and receive a refund because my failure to cancel the trial was a mistake. They responded by saying that I agreed to the terms and they cannot cancel my subscription. I followed up with a more ***** email, stating several characteristics of their company that I deemed to be deceptive and they did not answer. I followed up again today, 12/13/2023, and am awaiting a response. My customer service reference number is ********** only wanted to use this website one time for one single image. I believe if this business was reputable, they wouldn't lock their customers into a hefty 1-Year agreement without clearly notifying the customer that this was occurring.

I signed up for a free trial because I was doing research for a client. I forgot to cancel the free trial and was then charged for a month of services after which was $70. That is fine and I understand that I have to pay that becuase I forgot to cancel. HOWEVER, the company is now refusing to let me cancel my subscription, and saying that I owe now a total of $700 over the course of the next year. The sign up practices here are extremely deceptive and mis leading and I should be allowed to cancel my subscription whenever I wish. I do not want to pay for services I simply am not using. The company does not make the binding contract here clear, transparent, or friendly for users to understand. If I had known that I would be dealing with this, I never would have signed up in the first place. This is a DARK UX PATTERn that should be completely ILLEGAL. **************** via the phone also is advised not to help with subscription services, and they gave me the runaround via 2 emails to file this complaint, to which they said that they cannot help me and I have to continue to pay. I need to CANCEL MY ACCOUNT AND STOP BEING CHARGED FOR SERVICES THAT I WAS MISLED TO PAY AND SIGN UP FOR.

I signed up for a free trial of iStock. I have tried multiple times to cancel and continue to be charged 70$ a month. The website does not allow you to cancel or make changes to your payment method from your account home page, and customer service associates say they cannot make account changes when you contact. THey say to file a request and that someone will respond within 36 hours. No one responded and I continue to be charged.

I signed up for a free trial at istockphoto.com - a stock photography website. I decided that I didn't want to continue past the trial period so I logged into my account and changed the setting to "non-renew." That is the only cancellation option available in my account. I assumed my account would not be renewed after the free trial and I would not be charged. But iStock charged me. When I reached out to them to inquire, they said that non-renewal is not the same as cancellation. To cancel, I needed to call customer service. They do not offer online cancellation even though the communication I received from them clearly says I can cancel any time during the trial period and directs me to their website.

Someone from my company downloaded 1-3 images during a free trial with iStock images and my credit card populated in the field. I have asked iStock to cancel the yearly subscription and not only did they charge me $95 dollars, but they refuse to reimburse me for that fee (for 3 images download that someone else mistakenly made). I am now on the hook for an un-cancellable yearly subscription? How is this proper business practice and etiquette? I reached out to iStock directly as soon as the mistake was realized and they basically said I have to pay $425 ******** to get out of this contract.I am requesting that the error be corrected, that any finance or other charges related to the disputed amount be credited to my account, and that I get an accurate statement before taking the complaint further.Does Getty/iStock realize that this is shady business dealings? You cannot trap people into a yearly subscription without offering a way to freely cancel without further trying to extort money from customers. As an agency, this has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I will tell all of our clients never to spend a ***** with iStock. After googling, there are SO many horrible complaints detailing the exact same issue. You need to change your business practices especially since so many have complained about the same issue.

The subscription was initiated by mistake. I did not receive any reminders about this free trial expiring. Not receiving a reminder about the terms of this free trial prevented me from making an informed and accurate final decision. I do not need this service anymore. The lack of response to my inquiries from them is not professional. I need this subscription to be canceled due to budget reasons.

There was a trial setup for 1 month that had misleading and hidden terms, I cancelled the subscription before the end of the trial but they activated it and it started to renew monthly charges on my credit card or $89.25 CAD, I contacted them requesting that i did cancel and did not use any of their credits or services and i have no intention of using their website or services and they used their predatory misleading terms that are not mentioned to try and charge me $425 CAD to cancel, I did not authorize this subscription renew and they are threatening to charge my card, this is their common practice to steal money from unsuspecting users by providing misleading information and renewing peoples subscriptions after they've cancelled, this is well documented by thousands of other complaints to the same nature on trustpilot.

I am rejecting this response because:

The trial was supposed to be cancelled before it renewed, it wasn't, your terms are hidden and I do not have the money for your ridiculous billing amount, several hundred dollars for cancellation of a subscription is ludicrous, you wonder why your business has several reports against it for the same issue, keep the 88 but I will not pay anymore for this service. I just lost my job and you're going to financially ruin me.

Hello, I was charged fraudently by istockphoto. I had tried to cancel a subscription and the website said it was canceled. This was a lie, and I was charged $70 dollars. I never used the website and never downloaded any content, and was unaware the charge was occurring. I would like to ask for a refund since the company used deceptive practices, and since I was charged for something I never used. I will be filing a lawsuit if the company does not issue a refund. THank you.

      Ms. ******* case:

On October 26th, 2023, ************** actively opted for a Free Trial subscription and downloaded 1 image during the trial period.  After the free trial period concluded on November 25th, we billed his credit card for the first month of the annual subscription.  ************** contacted us on December 6th, expressing his desire to cancel his subscription. He was informed of our refund policy and provided with instructions on how to turn off the auto-renew feature to prevent the renewal of the annual subscription.
