My husband and I are scheduled to leave for a cruise, I am in law enforcement and due to unforseen circumstances we are currently well understaffed, it is literally a matter of public safety and they absolutely refuse to rebook or work with us at all. Won't do anything even though I have a notarized letter from the sheriff stating it's literally a matter of public safety. So now I have to choose between losing 7k and the trip we've been saving for 15 years for or my job... would not recommend, I'm devastated and feel like I've lost no matter what. They are terrible to work with.

My partner and I took a very expensive 2-week Mediterranean cruise with Holland America in July. We were put in a cabin that was rank ... the toilet smelled like sewage. We complained every day and every day someone came in to try and fix it but even the plumber couldn't do anything. Not only were we disrupted and felt ill from the odor, we were told they were overbooked and could not move us. We were finally moved after 4 days but did not get any compensation (except to be put in a smaller room). I have emailed Holland America and they have given credit towards another cruise to be taken within a year. I emailed back and told them I was not able to take up their offer. They have said that they will not respond to any further correspondence .. meaning take it or leave it. So disgusted with their service .. they don't even deserve the 1-star rating.

Please do your research before booking, just ****** reviews for Holland and you will see most people have had very similar experiences. I have been on plenty of cruises, Holland is awful. Dont believe anything they say, they do not follow thru with anything. They lost my booking, it took over an hour for them to find me in the system. This seem to be the trend because there was quit a few people standing there at the desk while they were trying to find theirs also. We did not have air conditioning in our room for the first couple of days, when we asked about getting another room we were told that they were booked to capacity-no where to move **, no one ever fixed the air in the room. After my roommates face swelled up and her eye swelled shut and one of our group members finding upper management we were finally moved to another room. During this time we had talked to guest services everyday, he was aware that my roommate is a 70 yr old woman with health issues and I am disabled with health issues. From the room being so hot, my whole body swelled up and I was hardly able to move the whole trip. ************* manager said he would not charge my credit card on file. That was December 22, 2022, today is May 19, 2023 and I am still trying to get the management to rectify the situation like they said they would. So far, they have been nothing but rude when I can get them to respond and when they do respond they tell me they sent ** flowers ?? and have ** a $65 on board credit for the next cruise. Also, I was told things happen and basically deal with it- that they were not going to reimburse me. Others on board was not able to flush their toilets because of plumbing issues, other issues the water was brown and nasty. Throughout the cruise, people were very upset with this cruise, talking about how awful the conditions were and that they were going to talk to their travel agents. The food, entertainment, staff and over all experience was awful, not up to par at all.

I worked with ***********************************, personal Cruise Consultant with Holland America to book a cruise in ****. He provided the worse customer service that I have ever experience. He made false promises - offering me $250 for on board credit - that I never received. he said he would call me at a designated day/time and never did. he promised to take care of booking my cruise, but delivered NOTHING. I did finally book the **** cruise with another personal Cruise Consultant. I recommend that you stay away from ***********************************. He is not a good representative for Holland America Cruise Line.

After taking 3 cruises myself and my wife taking at least 6, I would say that their cruises are pretty admirable but their word and promises pretty disappointing. Don't fall ill on a cruise as your expense reimbursement, even though you are told all will be reinbursed, never comes. In fact, they stall you out with endless repeats over and over, for the same info that you keep submitting to them. They use to be a top notch cruise line but Our time and money, in the future, will not be spent with ****

Booked an ****** cruise for May2023 with family flying from *******. Four months later it is being offered with $300 savings and a free balcony upgrade - HA will not allow this for existing booking. Leaves a sour taste in the mouth even before the cruise starts.

Do not consider Holland America for a cruise. We chose a Holland America cruise based solely on the itinerary not the ship. Holland America changed half the ports expected to visit after payment. We were notified of port changes on November 10, 2022 three week after final payment made on October 17, 2022. Holland America penalized us for 50% because we did not want to go to the new ports. They advertised certain ports then switched half of them after final payment. The insurance would also not compensate for the losses incurred.Due to operational reasons the call to *************, ******* has been replaced with ***************** from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Additionally, the call to Key West, ******* has been replaced with ******, ******* from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We regret any inconvenience these changes may cause and look forward to welcoming you on board. We are very sorry if this causes you any inconvenience.Holland America Line may have implemented this change for a variety of reasons, but most often it is because the port of call is not available as originally scheduled. We can assure you that the cruise line feels that it is necessary in order to provide you with the best possible cruise experience. With that in mind, Holland America Line is not offering compensation to guests booked on this sailing date. We need to start a class action suit against Holland America.WE sailed on Royal Caribbean on 21 Jan ***** instead of Holland America. We sailed on Holland America before and we were looking forward to a great experience but are now very disappointed with Holland America.4/30/2022Initial Deposit$ ****** 10/17/2022Insurance Payment$ ****** 10/17/2022Final Payment$ ******* 11/16/2022Payment Refund $ ******** TOTAL PAID$ *******

I joined the ********** cruise at *****. Immediately, the first port of call was canceled. This was ****** and it is my understanding that the channel (along with the weather conditions) made it harder to maneuver. Unfortunately, that meant three full days on the ship before the next port. The cruise went down from there. Although it was cold, the conditions were certainly not close to the worst conditions captains face on cruise trips. Still, almost every port seemed to pose a serious challenge for the captain and crew. The final blow was refusal to go into Hobart; this decision was made a full 48 hours before we were to dock. Another cruise ship that was as large docked within a day or two of when we were supposed to be there. It really sounded to me like the crew just did not want to bother with really trying to get us to a promised port. Finally, the captain said he wanted to play it safe; however, the most problematic part of the cruise was the leg between **** and ******. Obviously, he had to get us to ****** on time since a number of people were flying out immediately. We were late getting into two more ports (again I know in one port it was understandable given the tender boat issue). However, I determined that out of a 14-day cruise, we were off the boat for only about 4-1/2 days. This was not what I had signed up for. Over the time of the cruise, I began to really lose confidence in the bridge. While I do not wish to insult the bridge crew, I do question the decisions made. They seemed so concerned about safety, they appeared unwilling to dock if there was any weather to contend with. In short, they did not seem to make any extra effort. Again, I do not mean to be unfair, but most people do not get the chance to go to ********* more than once; we spend a lot of money to make the dream a reality; and deserve to have the crew work make the extra effort to provide what was promised. Given this, I do not plan to use Holland America again.

Bad guest relations on board. We reported that our phone did not work. After 2 days we told our cabin ******* and he fixed our phone. We went to guest services every day or night except Wed. wasting hours of our vacation time. They told me that I didnt have an excursion that I paid for. That took hours to be fixed. We had to wait in long lines multiple times to get our cards fixed. They would not work in the casino or our room. They had limited staff that say, " I'm sorry or don't know " to complaints. There was an awful smell on deck 7. It smelled like a combination of electrical and paint. I asked the maintenance man in the blue work suit what it was. He said, "I dont know' and ran off. We went out of the room for a few hours. We were directly across from the electrical room. I called guest services to tell them something smelled like it was on fire. No one answered the phone. It just rang and rang. There were problems with the air conditioning. The ship left the port around 5 hpurs after it was suppose to due to problems. This ship should have stayed at drydock. I overheard that they were short 200 crew. Worst cruise ever. We are tired from the stress, inconvenience and incompetence. They offered me a cocktail! How about an on board credit or something for ruining multiple activities for a party of 4. I have been on multiple cruise lines. This cruise was awful. My mother in law was a first time cruiser. She stayed upset and was scared to even go to *********** after having a problem in St. ******. A crew member took off with the key to her rental scooter when he went ashore. We had to waste more vacation time dealing with that. Our cabin stewards were wonderful. The food was so so. My husband got raw meatballs. The chef apologized. I got a good haircut at the spa.

Totally disgusted & frustrated with Holland America right now. We returned from our cruise 11/20/22, booking # XPXXVC, with a credit of $712.76, due to us b/c of a shortened cruise. There was a problem with our credit card on the day we left. Somehow, we don't know how, they had an old, expired card on file. We were told that the issue had been resolved (2 trips to guest services) but we have not received our money back yet. We can't get anyone to answer our emails or phone calls (despite the fact that 'our call is very important to them!). We want our money back NOW. This does not seem legal. We have another cruise booked with them in January. If we could cancel, we would. I can assure them, it will be our last one. But if we don't have our money by then, they will not like us on that next ship. Do we have any legal recourse? What else can we do? I recommend that no one book a cruise on Holland America.
