Hi, I was staying at my dads house in November of last year. I discovered, with the help of a contractor that my dad's house had water issues under the house. On top of that, one of the heating ducts under the house had come apart. I called Area heating and air the week of 3-17-2025. I spoke with a woman and asked her if she could have someone come out and fix the problem? She assured me she would send a technician out to the house for ******. She stated that if they could fix the duct work that would be applied to my bill. ******* came out to the house and crawled under the house and indeed confirmed that the duct work had come apart. I asked him if he could fix it. He told me, I'm not one of the two technicians that does that kind of work. He said he didn't know how to fix it. And he wasn't sure why they sent him out to the property. Unfortunately, I did sigh the iPad ******* put in front of me without reading it ( now I know better) my ********** this moment, I'm feeling scammed. This company sent someone out to the house with no knowledge of how to fix duct work. This type of fix is usually a metal strap connected to the floor joints to hold the duct work up and a metal/ aluminum tape that seals the insulated pipe to the metal Y connectors. I received a bill and promptly got on the phone and spoke with one of the ladies in the office. I let her know that I felt like I was scammed. She had me speak to her supervisor in the office, ****. **** said she would look into it, review the call on the recorded line and call me back. **** never called back, she just resent the bill. I never agreed to an estimate. I knew what was wrong before I called. I feel that this company should forgive the bill. They sent an unqualified person to the house, who could not fix my problem.

I have read a reply from Area heating and air. The * duct did not need to be replaced. Though ******* did say he didn't know about that because he is not one of the two technicians that does repair work for the company.  The duct has been reattached by the company that did the drainage work under the house two weeks ago. The * joint was not replaced. I have reached out to drainage *** I have asked for the photo file from their work. Apparently, Area heating and air records their phone calls. I would be curious to hear that call. I remember telling them what the problem was (as it had been diagnosed two weeks earlier) and asking them if they could send someone out to fix the problem.

They sent out *******. He was a nice guy. But he did not have the skill set to do the repair and was clear about that. His comment to me was "I'm not sure why the company sent me out, I don't do this kind of work." It seems to me that Area Heating and air were trying to generate revenue. Sending someone to the house that did not have the knowledge of how to fix the problem, is a waste of my time. I feel this is unacceptable as a business practice. This is the first, and hopefully the last time I will ever have to file a complaint on this level. I called what I thought was a professional heating and air company for a service. And They sent someone out to our home who didn't have the knowledge or skill set to fix the problem. I know this is not technically a bait and switch situation. But, I felt scammed.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

            ******* ******

On March 18th, ******* called and spoke with one of our **************** Representatives to schedule a ductwork assessment with a technician. She was informed of the $115 plus tax assessment fee, which would be credited towards the repair cost if she chose to proceed. The technician, *******, went underneath her home and did an assessment and determined that she needed a new Y connector he did not have the necessary Y connector on his truck. Unfortunately, our technicians do not carry every possible part due to the large variety, and a return trip would have been necessary regardless of which technician was dispatched.
******* was sent a quote for the repair, including the $115 assessment fee as a credit. She called again on March 24th and we spoke, and I returned her call within one hour after listening to the original call and attempted to call her again on March 25th, leaving a voicemail. ******* also called in again on the 24th, and I returned her call within ten minutes; however, she did not return my call.

I am rejecting this response because:

Area Heating and Cooling sent someone who was not qualified to fix the problem to my dad's house. ******* was clear that he didn't know what to do because he doesn't do this kind of work for the company. He didn't have the skill set to fix the problem. I find this business practice unaceptable.

    Sincerely,

    ******* ******

I am sorry to hear that you felt ******* was not capable. Please be assured that all of our technicians, including *******, are fully qualified and trained to perform thorough assessments.

When we conduct an assessment, it involves sending a technician to your location to take detailed pictures. This step is crucial for accurately determining the scope of the work required, including the specific amount and type of materials we'll need. This initial assessment also allows us to identify precisely which of our specialized departments is best suited to handle your particular job. As part of this process, there is a standard charge associated with the technician's visit and the time spent gathering this information.

I also wanted to clarify that if you had chosen to move forward with the recommended work, the assessment fee you paid would have been directly credited towards the overall cost of the project. This is standard practice, and we want to be transparent about how our pricing works.

Area Heating performed a preventative maintenance on January 27, 2025. At that time we found the system to be working to factory specificaitons. In July of 2023 a repair was performed under warranty for both parts and labor. ****** is requesting equipment replacement in this complaint, however we have not heard of any further issues since 2023. We will need to reach out to My **** to determine if the system is not working at this time. If that is the case we will follow the procedures through the warranty department to determine the course of action to needed.
