Tried to help my70 year old dad get into his account after ******************** started requiring email verification. The old email he used was from his old ISP. Even though he knew his username, password, security questions, transaction history, credit card information, and had linked accounts that could verify him, they would not help and insisted they could not help him. Heck, my credit card was the one uses to purchase his software even. All paid for software would be lost according to Valve. I was able to work with engineering at his old ISP to get him into his account. This was only possible because I work there! Anyone else would have been unable to recover their account.

Steam Support is nonexistent. Steam consistently makes decisions on behalf of their users that no one asked for. Whether making a sale on the Community Market or implementing policies that help no one except Valve in reducing the number of customers they actually have to respond to. My biggest gripe being that if you buy an item on Steam for one price at some point in time, and decide to sell it later for a higher price, Steam/Valve may decide to "hold the funds" if they deem the price of an item to be unusual. They have multiple verification methods in place to confirm the sale of said items at the price listed, but this has no bearing on whether the funds will be released immediately or held by Steam until they decide to release them. There is no warning about these funds being held until AFTER the item is removed from your account and placed in the inventory of another Steam user. If the item is release from my inventory upon sale, the funds should then be made immediately available to the seller, especially if the user verified the sale of said item via Steam Guard (Valve's 2FA authentication and confirmation system). It is insane to me that even with all of the verification madness that Valve has going on, they can't release funds for sold items immediately. Imagine if ****, ******, or other marketplace sites sent your item to the buyer and then said "Um, no, we'll hold onto that for now, thanks. xx", there would be massive outcry and uproar. Valve should not get a pass on their horrendous support time and policy, nor should they be allowed to hold funds for items sold but then still release the items to the seller. I should be able to cancel a transaction that results in pending funds. I should not be required to relinquish an item from my inventory until payment for said item is tendered in full. If you're gonna hold the money anyways, remove the ****** verification steps for the sale.

I am reporting the game Paradise on Steam, which promotes a fraudulent cryptocurrency. Despite numerous user complaints and warnings, ********************** has failed to remove the game or take any action. The game misleads players into investing in a scam token, causing financial harm. As a major platform, Valve (Steam) has a responsibility to monitor its content for fraud and protect users from such scams. Their inaction puts users at risk.

Steam Customer Support constantly uses templates that are never helpful. They refuse to lift account restrictions after working with both the bank and Steam to get this fixed. Honestly, if your game can avoid Steam, do so. Buy directly from publisher and avoid this company if you can.

I pre-purchased a steam deck, the top of the line unit from Valve and received mine on schedule. I put less than 50 hours of play on it. In the first 3 months, my steam deck had a hardware corruption and needed to be RMA'd.I received a refurbished replacement - and played it very little. About 1 year later with about 100 hours of total play. My unit would not turn on at all. I contacted valve, they told me I was out of warranty. After $170 of replacement costs, I had a new battery installed and mandatory software updates done. It has been about 4-5 months since i received it, and with heavy play it is now doing the same thing it did last time. I am in need of yet another battery. It does not work unless plugged in - and also randomly powers down.I was extremely excited about this product. It is just not living up to the expectation of a handheld gaming system, much less anything i expect to receive at its price point. I will likely pay to get it repaired again, and look to sell it.Extremely frustrated and upset.

I bought a steam deck a few months after release. I have had it for about two years now; adult owned, not too much hours of gaming (somewhere between 100 and 200 at most) and always kept it in the case that came with it. Suddenly, one of the buttons stopped working. I tried different things to no avail. I reached out to their support system, and they determined that I would either need to pay at least $125 to have them repairing it, or to do it myself buying the parts. I thought $125 was way too much for a single button (that's more than a third of the price of the console when on discount) so I tried buying the parts but they were out of stock. Upon noting this to steam's support system, I was told there was nothing they could do and they closed the thread without letting me respond. This is really poor service by Valve and I definitely won't be buying any other device with them; I have never had such an experience with any other console like this in past 30 years.

Didn't use there service for almost 10 years now they are asking for me to prove I own the account. After providing all the information they requested they still stated that I have not provided adequate information. So now I have lost all the games I paid for and my email is linked so I have to use a new mail address if I want to use there service... Do better, at least try...

Bought a steam deck, right out of box, charged it, turned it on, stuck on install screen, contacted steam support and asked for a replacement or refund, they told me no even though its within the 14 days, actually only been three days. This is not right, it costs 600+ dollars and now its a paper weight. Going to have to goto bank on Monday for a chargeback which then valve will probably ban my account and I'll lose thousands of dollars in games.

(moral of the story, do not buy Steam Gift Cards unless the recipient will quickly use all of it, and never keep money in your Steam Wallet for more than a few days)Adding to the complaint pile; mine is the same as below. One of my friends was hacked and sent out a spammy Steam Chat message for a $20 gift card. Me, thinking it was because of the holidays, clicked on it and started going through the authentication process. I then noticed the warning emails I was getting so I closed out of the tab and thought it was over.Skip forward a week, and I come to my phone thanking me for a $36 purchase on Steam Marketplace. I message the representative, and get a form letter back effectively saying "sorry you were hacked, make sure you're safe, the funds are spent and nothing we can do."I send a followup message, asking for some sort of compensation, as I felt betrayed that they had no recourse/purchase protection for the Steam Wallet. I even asked for a store coupon, store credit, anything. They merely reiterated the "sorry you were hacked" message and said they were closing the ticket because there was nothing more they can ***** is irritating because yes, I admittedly let my guard down with a malware link. However, the bank and credit cards companies I use do have forgiveness/systems for when their customers s**** up/get hacked. I've never been stuck with a credit charge I didn't make.Valve/Steam just drops you with a "sorry lol do better." Abhorrent customer service, but unfortunately they have a near-monopoly on PC Gaming. There is the Epic Games Store and GOG and the Xbox App, but you wanna play Baldur's Gate 3? Steam or bust.I'm giving 2 stars because Steam itself works fine, but the lack of customer support severely ***** my opinion of the company. Seriously, a f*cking coupon would have prevented this review.

Steam will not issue refunds to games that used unfair advertising practices and engaged in outright fraud.I have attempted 7 refund requests, there is no person to contact. However, if I attempt a chargeback, I will likely be banned from the service entirely - losing access to two decades worth of purchases.
