  Working with SelectDecks was a nightmare. In early March, we contracted Select Decks to redo 2 levels of decking. We made it clear via email with James that we needed everything completed by 5/8, and he agreed it was doable as long as they got started quickly. Demo of 1 level took place mid-April, and on 4/22 we were prompted to make color selections. On both 5/1, and 5/6 we reached out to SelectDecks because the project was running behind. In May we had numerous phone calls with James' remote phone assistant who provided various excuses for the delay. On 5/21 the assistant told us 'materials were ready for pickup’ (2 weeks after the project was supposed to be entirely completed, and with less than half of the demolition done). On 6/1 we called requesting an update and asking why we had not heard from James regarding the ongoing delay. On 6/3 we received an email from James stating "we anticipate having all the decking down this week", and requesting the 1st progress payment via wire transfer rather than using their online portal, with the claim that the online portal was ‘changing vendors’. This concerned us, and we requested a revised invoice properly scoped for the amount of work that had been performed, as well as evidence of the payment vendor change. We received no response to our request, and no decking was laid down. We subsequently retained a lawyer to pursue SelectDecks breach of contract. She sent a letter to SelectDecks demanding they finish the one deck they had demoed by 7/3. The letter finally got a response from James, who agreed to the terms we proposed - completion of decking on what was demoed by 7/3 in exchange for the progress payment and termination of any further obligations on either side. The partial work was eventually completed on 7/8, and Select Decks was ultimately paid half of the total contract amount for less than half of the total contract work.

  June 2025 marks the 4-year mark in which we have an incomplete deck from SelectDecks. What started off as an exciting addition to our house, has left us scratching our head at the silence from SelectDecks. Despite sending numerous emails that have gone unanswered, leaving voicemails that have not been responded to, and even Facebook/Meta Messenger messages that I have proof they have seen, we have not heard anything from SelectDecks. SelectDecks told us the project would take about 5-7 business days to complete. It is 4 years later, and they have not returned to finish the project. From cut pieces in our siding, sloppy edge work, puddles forming under our stairs from where they said they’d fill in with dirt, scratches on posts that they said they’d color in, large and inconsistent gaps from incorrect measuring, dead patches of grass in our yard that they’d say they’d fix from leaving garbage and scraps in our yard for 3 months, incorrect placement of border rocks (they randomly threw extra rocks in our neighbors’ yard), and here’s the kicker, THEY LEFT THEIR TOOLS AND BUILDING MATERIALS HERE SINCE THEY KNEW THEY WERE NOT DONE! For 4 years, they’ve left what they need to finish the job at our property! James, the owner of SelectDecks responded to **** claiming that their work was done and that we have an outstanding balance. **** claims resolutions manager sent me what he sent to ****. In his message, he says how we owe them money. We do not deny that we have a balance which was due after the final walkthrough. The final walkthrough NEVER happened! James claimed to **** that they did the final walk through. If the final punchlist and walkthrough were complete, why would you leave your tools and materials here? Why does our deck look the same way today that it did in summer 2021 with all of the sloppy edges, scratches, unfinished landscaping, and improper gaps? There is so much photo evidence of a job NOT done. Buyer beware! **** dropped them from their Pro lineup!

  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! DO NOT TRUST JAMES B******! We contracted Select Decks to build a deck for us. The job was started in February of 2023. Several things went wrong from the start. Water came pouring in by our sliding door because they removed the facia and did not cover it properly during construction. Then when the roof was installed we later found out nails were placed in the valley of the roof which resulted in more leaking. We had to hire another company to correct the problem at a major additional cost to us. Repeated request to Select Deck for an accounting of job expenditures, or to correct issues and finish our project have been ignored. I made repeated request on his ******** website to address concerns, I sent a certified letter to his Morgantown office (which he no longer occupies), left phone calls with his answering service, and even sent a message on ********. When I made a comment on the Select Deck Facebook site to please finish our deck my access was blocked. Be aware if you decide to hire this company for a project they start out great, seem sincere to fix any issues, and then start to ignore you completely, and never returned to finish.

  Couldn't be happier with this team! Their team's professionalism and expertise are truly impressive. The deck they built surpassed all expectations and has become a favorite spot for our family.

  We hired James to build a deck and roof over half the deck in 2019. He was the most expensive quote we got but he convinced he was worth it. They built a nice deck (at the time, trim pieces are falling off 4 years later and we have found alot of trim that wasnt nailed it to anything) but completely botched the roof. What they installed was not what we agreed but we trusted him, our mistake. The roof leaked into the main part of the house immediately. Badly. They eventually came back and installed a metal roof, incorrectly. It too leaked all over the porch outside. I called and called and called, he would not answer and when he did he would say he is busy but will get someone out. After weeks of calling his guys came out took down the ceiling and said they would be back to fix it. They did not. It continued to leak for months. At that point I could not get James to call me back. The only time I heard from him was when he threatened legal action against me for posting negative reviews of him online and my complaint to the BBB. He told me if I took down the reviews he would come back and do what other contractors said needed to be done. I took down the reviews and sent him the cost I paid another contractor and I never heard back from him, so I put reviews back up. After trying many things to fix it, my other contractor had to eventually take off the metal roof and install new metal correctly. Now we finally have no leaks on a porch we paid 50k for.
