2 starsWe hired Burley for our long haul move, including one month of storage. The 5 ton truck which arrived to load us was too small and it took the 2 man team 9 hours to load. When delivery day arrived we were given an arrival time of 9am, however they arrived at 6:30PM. We had waited all day, while attempting to get updates, but received no solid information until an hour before arrival. Again, 2 inexperienced movers arrived with no lead hand, and load was incomplete as truck was too small.
Some outstanding items were delivered next day, one item is still outstanding a week later. Upon unpacking we discovered that our $**** 65" OLED TV had been dropped or kicked on a bottom corner, destroying the screen despite the purpose built TV packing box being clearly marked very fragile. As we packed the TV ourselves, Burley policy clearly states that they take no responsibility for damage, however given the nature of the damage, its obvious that this was negligence. Several other items show evidence of rough handling.
We have had 5 satisfactory previous moves with Burley. This move they did not supply us with a sufficiently sized truck or experienced supervision for their movers so as to avoid damage to our household goods. By either negligence or inexperience, our 14K move became over 17K. Finally, we were very disappointed by the lack of communication that we experienced. Sitting on the floor, unable to leave our house for 9 hours while waiting for the truck to arrive, is not an experience that we would wish to repeat. 1 starI booked these movers to move some totes & a few items from a small storage unit in BC, to an apartment in AB. I gave exact details of all items to be moved ( I had photos, along with the fact I moved everything into the unit originally myself) & we agreed they'd be around 1000lbs & it would cost about $1500 at that. When my items arrived week later, after a lot of back & forth on different delivery dates/times, I was presented with a bill for just under $3000. I was told my things weighed 2222lbs at the scale based on the before & after scale weight paperwork & that there couldn't possibly be any error with that weight after having a conversation with the movers & then a heated discussion with a manager of the company. I wasn't agreeing to pay, so they kept my things & offered me - at my expense - a re-weigh the next day. After wasting 5 hours of my day that I was supposed to be working at my new job I moved for, and being forced to pay the bill as it stood - it was determined by the scales, that I was in fact correct in believing there was a large error in my paperwork. I was charged almost exactly double what the weight actually was. They agreed to refund me the difference in weight only - not even a refund for the extra fee I was charged for "challenging the weight". The GM, Marc, phoned me & I asked for more of a refund for my entire hassle (day off work, gas driving all over the city, my time, etc) & he said he would get back to me about more of a refund *** ****** ** ** *******. 1 starWe used this company for our first cross province move in 2018. We didn’t have any issues other than a damaged light shade.
When it was time to move provinces again, we figured we would use the same company. I called to request a quote. Mentioned we were returning customers. They said they would honour the rate we paid last time and quoted us roughly 3,500$-5g tops depending on final weight as we did have a little more weight than the first move.
Despite me booking 2 months ahead of the move they didn’t confirm a date and time until the day prior and then showed up 6 hours early with a truck too small to fit all contents. They had to send a second truck, which we had to wait for. They said we had to find someone to meet them at the end destination on time or we would have to foot the bill for storage. Pretty hard to be in two places at once - waiting on the second truck but at the end location in another province with the first truck.
The rate was then increased before they would offload the truck. I spoke with a manager and they deducted a fuel tax on the second truck and asked if we wanted our stuff or not, which felt like extortion. We paid the bill but the quote of 3,500$ is not what we paid. We paid 9,400$. 1 starWe hired them to move our stuff from coastal BC to Calgary. They quoted us an approximate one-week delivery time. After they picked up our stuff, I had to call them at least four times to get any kind of update/timeline. Finally, they told me that our stuff would be delayed by a week, and essentially blamed *us* for the delay because we had a relatively small number of boxes - even though they knew this when we first got a quote from them. After two weeks, they eventually delivered our stuff.
Troublingly, they make you pay for the delivery and sign a document stating that everything arrived in "good condition" before you even have a chance to look over the stuff. I guess more fool me for not reading the fine print* *** **** ** ******* ******** ** ***** *****
They brought in our credenza, which was badly damaged in multiple places, including a chunk ripped out of the side (side note: no other items, including fragile objects, were broken* ** **** ******* ******* *** ******** ** **** ******. Several bags of clothing were also soaking wet, indicating they had not been stored properly.
When I told one of the guys this, he shrugged his shoulders, and walked away. Not even an "oh, sorry about that." I then approached the driver asking if we could please amend the paperwork, because the stuff had not, in fact, arrived in "good condition."
He became very defensive, snatched the paper out of my hand, told me to email the company to make a claim, and refused to amend the paperwork. He then said that we wouldn't receive compensation because the credenza is, and I'm quoting directly, "not real furniture." He got in his truck and drove away.
I understand that stuff breaks during moves. But the level of disrespect they showed here was totally unacceptable. And this followed two weeks of poor communication and delays.Review fromCrystal b

1 starThey moved us from courtenay bc to alberta. They damaged over $****** of our furniture. Driver came with no extra boxes or matress covers as we where told they would have. We where told our 5 bedroom house would fit no problem in there 35 foot truck.. nope, it didnt so I was charged for over weight on one truck plus another fee for a later delivery. Then calgary crew unloaded us and actually called in all the damage to his boss and told them the whole house should have fit but the victoria crew packed it horribly, alot of wasted space. No furniture was wrapped, sat on wet truck bed, all new furniture too :( funny thing is everything I wrapped/ boxed is perfectly fine.... watched movers drop stuff down stairs, tipped boxes upside down/ sideways in trucks. They dropped a bed frame into my fridge and dented it and looked at me and said oops.. driver was sick and literally made a mess in everyone of my 3 bathrooms I already cleaned. * ******* ***** ***** **** ** **** ******* sadly Ifell for all there promises and now have to fight.

as. Per our agreement i paid before the truck was unloaded as per agreement, but two pieces of my loveseat were not delivered and a month has passed and they still have not found the missing pieces. I am without a place to sit as this was the only piece i brought with me to go into a small seniors apartment.
They did do a good job of packing the truck but somewhere between picking up and transferring to another truck, the pieces were lost.2 Burley Men Moving Ltd.

They will overcharge you. You will be given a quote and then once loaded they will charge you double.
Your furniture will not be handled with care as they do not care. I have many broken and damaged pieces, some which cannot be repaired and will have to be dumped.
Many of my items went missing; sentimental items that cannot be replaced.
You are taking a gamble using this company.

1 star** *** *** **** ******* *** **** ******* Completely unprofessional, careless and terrible time management. I was quoted $***** to $***** for a move from Nanaimo to the Vancouver. The bill ended up being over $***** and the delivery crew damaged multiple items as well damaged my new home due to there carelessness.
I spoke with there service manager Cheryl and she was unwell to offer any help or compensation and took zero responsibility for all the issues I had. I am baffled how a company can operate like this and still be in business….
