* **** * *** **** ******** ***** *** **** ******** I booked a car rental on ************** just to be surprised at the pick-up time/location that they require the insurance pink card (mandatory 3rd party liability insurance in Alberta). I had no insurance as I was not a resident and I had no vehicles in Alberta to have such insurance. They insisted even though having such insurance is the responsability of the car operator (owner). CAD 410 went waste as ************** refused to give me a refund. Will never use them again.Routes Car Rental

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration. Our insurance requirements are based on provincial regulations and company policies, but we regret if these were not clearly communicated prior to your arrival—especially for non-residents unfamiliar with local requirements.
We recognize how disappointing it is to be denied a rental after prepaying and are working with our third-party partners to improve clarity around insurance needs at the time of booking.
Please contact us at ************@******.ca with your reservation details so we can review your case and explore possible solutions.

** *** **** **** **** ******* ** *****. ***** ******** **** ** ** **** ** *** ******* ****** **** **** ***** ** ****** **** ********* Incredible wait times. **** **** ****. Insurance companies dont work this company. They charge a cleaning fee for sand at a beach location. Vans to their location off the airport run on their own time. Had to take a cab to get here after waiting for more than 20 minutes. Awful experience.Routes Car Rental

We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience at our Miami location and sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. Long wait times, limited payment options, and transportation delays are not the standard we strive to uphold. We understand how frustrating it is when expectations aren't met—especially during travel.
Regarding the cleaning fee, while light cleaning is expected, excessive sand may trigger a charge. That said, this should be communicated clearly.
Your feedback is being reviewed with our local team. Please contact us at ************@******.ca with your reservation details so we can further investigate and assist.

***** **** * **** ** ********* Pricing changes due to multiple high priced add ons when you get to the counter for your rental. Must pay for their insurance unless your personal insurance has $1 million in coverage because their cars arent owned like most other rental agencies. Was told I would not be charged for out of state fees as only 2 of the 8 day rental. Charged for all 8. Would have gladly paid for the 2. Dont fall victim to quick return system. Make sure you review your receipt in its entirety. Unable to speak to anyone if you have a dispute. **** **** * ******* *** ******** ****** **** **** ****** ********Routes Car Rental

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration regarding unexpected charges and insurance requirements. While we do require third-party insurance to meet certain coverage thresholds, our agents should clearly explain all options to avoid confusion at the counter.
We also regret any miscommunication about out-of-state fees and the difficulty you encountered reaching our team for support. This is not the level of service we strive to provide.
We’d like to review your case in detail—please contact us at ************@******.ca with your reservation information so we can assist further.

Car rental agencies are generally a pain, but I have never experienced anything as a bad as Routes Car Rental. They hook you with their low premiums then proceed to reel in all of their profits with hidden fees, sneaky policies, and terrible customer service. The ***resentative tried to upcharge me at every corner. I rejected the car upgrade after much convincing. I did accept the toll pass because the *** convinced me that I would hit many tolls. THERE ARE NO TOLLS IN **. They lied. After returning to drop off the car I went to the front desk to get my refund as I was purposely led into buying this extra charge. The *** said they would honor my refund if I went through customer service line. Now that I am out of the store they are denying this request. My $17/day 5 day trip turned into over $450. Insane. * ***** ***** ******** *** * **** ***** **** ******* ** *** *** ****** ***** ** **** ****** ***** ** ***** *** ****** **** ***** ******** **** *******Routes Car Rental

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating it can be when charges feel unexpected or misleading. Our goal is to provide clear, upfront information at the counter, and we regret if the toll pass was misrepresented—especially in areas with limited toll usage like Colorado.
We also apologize for any confusion regarding your refund request. Promises made at the desk should be honored, and we’re reviewing this matter internally.
Please contact us at ************@******.ca with your reservation number so we can investigate and work toward a fair resolution.

1 starThis company profits by forcing you to purchase hidden fees.1. They request a cert of insurance with them as additional insured. If you do not have that. They charge you ***** a day for insurance. Who asks for that? No one.. most rental businesses ask you to sign a waiver. 2. Toll device. I asked if I could use my own. No. You have to use theirs. If not they will charge you a huge fee if you get a toll.. they want ***** a day to use their toll service. These are all hidden fees in their tiny terms and conditions. ** *** **** **** **** ************* *****Review fromBrad K

1 starRented a car from this place, which I have had a prior good experience with. This time when I arrived, I never received a document in my email and was handed the keys and said to go get car. Previously, the showed you where the car was and how to operate it.When I brought it back, it did have a cracked windshield, which I hadn't noticed before (my mistake, I know). They charged me for windshield and I am trying to get some documents from them to submit a claim and it is next to impossible.Review fromEzgi E

1 starTheir agent called me 2 days prior to tell me to bring a pink slip to pick up the car. When I informed them I don't have a pink slip, they said to bring my passport instead and it would work. However, when I arrived they refused to give me the car because I didn't have a pink slip. Because I paid for the car online beforehand, I asked for a refund and was refused that as well. It's a huge **** company!
