PlatePass (Verra Mobility) is engaging in unfair and deceptive consumer practices. When a customer uses the transponder in their rental car, they automatically enroll them into a costly "all inclusive" subscription for the duration of their rental. This is nearly always more expensive than paying for the tolls individually. For example, in a recent rental, my tolls and fees cost ~$60. Platepass charged me ~$260. They refunded ~$200 once I called them to "unenroll" from the all inclusive plan. There are several unfair and deceptive practices here: 1. Inadequate notification to customers that they will be auto-enrolled in this expensive "all inclusive" plan if they use the transponder 2. There's no way to use the transponder on tolls WITHOUT enrolling in the Platepass all inclusive plan 3. All inclusive plan is usually several-fold more expensive than the option of paying for tolls and fees individually, so this is clearly not a consumer-centric program 4. PlatePass is not upfront about the cost of the tolls. When you request a receipt online, they only show you the number of days you were enrolled in the all inclusive program, NOT the actual cost of the tolls, so you don't know you're getting ripped off until you call customer service and wait on hold. Even the agent on the phone said she didn't know the actual cost of the tolls. I do not understand why BBB considers this an A+ business given the reviews on here all seem to be 1 star.Verra Mobility

Similar to what others have said, ridiculous fees for service provided with poor customer service. They have a flat rate of $9.99 per day, so even if the toll is only $2 you'll get charged $9.99 per day. They also inappropriately add days to their service. If you rent a car for 24 hours, instead of charging you for one day they charge you for two if you physically are in the car on two calendar dates. For example, if you rent the car from 6PM Thursday until 6PM Friday, instead of being charged for one day they'll charge you separately for each day. They just send you a bill at the end for "convenience fee" and are not transparent.Verra Mobility

For my current role I travel to ****** ** for business. I have taken the same trip to the same plant every time. This is my 23rd trip this year, as of Dec 4th. Plate Pass aka Verra Mobility has charged me five times. I have disputed four of the charges and they have refunded me. I am disputing the fifth as I write. Initially, they would find the issue then correct the problem. The last time I showed receipts from my trip that clearly showed I was nowhere near the toll area. Not sure what will happen this time, but I am confident I will get my money back. However, the reason I decided to make a complaint is 5 charges in 23 identical trips means 21.7% of the time I have had to go through the extra effort to dispute fictious charges. It just seems odd that their systems "failure rate" is so high. I think they actually bank on people not knowing if they were on a toll road. In my case if I didn't have prior travel knowledge, I would have just paid the bill and pass the cost to my company. I'm sure they can do better, maybe this review will help them realize that.Verra Mobility

I am writing to formally submit a complaint against PlatePass, a toll payment service associated with Hertz car rentals, regarding an unfair billing practice I recently experienced during my rental.I rented a vehicle from Hertz for a month in ********. At the time of rental, I explicitly declined all additional services, including PlatePasss All-Inclusive Tolling Option.However, during my rental, I used a toll system on a single day. Without my prior consent, PlatePass charged me a total of $600+ for their All-Inclusive Tolling package, which covers the entire rental period. This fee is vastly disproportionate to the actual toll usage, which was limited to a single day.When I contacted PlatePass and complained about this charge, they reversed it and only charged me the appropriate amount for the toll usage. However, I believe this practice of defaulting to an expensive all-inclusive charge when a customer uses the toll system onceeven after explicitly declining it at the start of the rentalis misleading and potentially abusive.Many customers might not notice these charges or may face delays in getting refunds, which is unacceptable. I am concerned that this practice could be widespread, impacting many consumers who may not have the time or knowledge to dispute these charges.I request that the *** investigate this billing practice by PlatePass and take necessary action to prevent consumers from being unfairly charged for services they declined.Verra Mobility

Terrible experience. Less than 1 star if possible. They tried to charge me without even sending an invoice. Then when you reach out to dispute they ignore your requests and just send you another bill weekly until you pay.
