Like very similar stories below, on July 3, 2023 at 8pm, a young man came to our house to sell magazine subscriptions. We thought it was for a charitable cause, but after reading everything about this company and trying to contact them, we realized that is was a scam. We have cancelled our check, will contact the company and we hope that some steps can be taken by local law enforcement to stop this from happening. There are true charitable organizations that need donations.

A young man came to my house around 8:30 pm. He said he was selling magazine subscriptions that can be sent to charitable organizations. He told me he had been incarcerated and was trying to hlep others. I succumbed to ordering 3 subscriptions to go to men in prison. I later realized that this was a scam after reading this website and other sites all of which had negative reviews. I have cancelled the check, phoned the company and left a message to cancel my transaction as well as fax the company requesting cancellation. I hope there is some way for people to be made aware of this company.

Yesterday someone knocked at our door with Optimum Reading Services. He also gave me a story about trying to turn his life around; he was a good salesperson. He explicitly said the children's magazine purchases I was donating to a women's shelter were tax deductible and that someone from their office would call to provide a receipt. I sadly spent $260 through an app thinking it was a true donation. When I called the number on the receipt to get a donation receipt as instructed by the representative, she told me this is not a charity or tax deductible. Even though the receipt says I have the right to cancel within three business days, the customer ********************** person **** said I had to fax to cancel. No faxes will go through. It's very clear this is a scam and I'm not getting my money back. I was lied to on multiple levels and this company clearly a scam. I will now always ask for the organization's tax ID.

A person with Optimum Reading Services rang my doorbell and proceeded to tell me he was trying to get his life back on track by practicing how he converses and presents himself to others. He said he was having people sign on a sheet to credit points to him to show to his PO so he could get his son back and that magazines would be delivered to other folks in need. Sounded fishy. I then asked to see his credentials and I took pictures of those credentials and told him I would not sign anything today and respond online (there was an email address). He said I couldn't respond online and that I had to delete the photos of his credentials. I said no, because I wanted to verify the validity of his cause. He became very agitated and then told me he would sit on my porch until I deleted the photos. I then said I would call the police if he stayed on the porch. He then said I was only treating him that way because he is black, that Optimum is really Black Lives Matter, and that BLM was going to *** me. I closed the door, he left. During the discussion he became increasingly belligerent/aggressive.

Like others before me, I fell victim to a smooth talking sales representative. ******************************* came to my door on 02/14/2023. He told me his story about being a former gang member trying to get his life back on track. I purchased two subscriptions for $288. I was led to believe that the subscriptions would be donated and that the donation would be tax deductible. I have requested a cancellation and a refund from the company. I'm not optimistic that I will get an acknowledgement, much less a refund.

Fellow came to our door at night time, we thought it was our neighbor ***** would have never opened the door. My husband listened to the sob story with real compassion. Then my husband asked the following questions:Whats the website? There isnt one. Whats your code? This is important because any legit org will give reps a code so they can get credit for the donation, ie call in your donation at a later date (giving you time to verify their authenticity) and give *************** who I met at my door the credit/commission. - There isnt a code the man said. My husband replies then then I cant donate. The man switched from put-together, gentle, articulate to aggressive and using curse words. Classic scammer give away. We just closed the door.

This company is a total scam. They give out a very professional looking receipt that says: "You may cancel this transaction without any penalty" by mailing their your cancellation form within three business days. That receipt gave me some confidence I would have time to confirm my concerns about the legitimacy of the operation. I researched online after the salesman left and was easily persuaded I have been scammed by a slick salesman. I followed all the instructions for cancellation, and mailed timely by first class and by certified mail, return receipt. For good measure found an email address and emailed copies of everything. I actually got an email response saying that everything looked good and I should be getting my refund shortly. That was in early December, and since then I have received nothing in the mail, and they have ghosted me by email and phone.

Sadly same experience as previous reviewers. When I asked about the organization I was to write the check to and said I wanted to check them out the good vibe dissolved and one of the pair became unpleasant as they walked away. Im not sure what the solicitors get but this seems to be a scam
