This company makes robo calls dozens of times a month and violates the do not call registry. I have blocked more than twenty originating numbers for these calls. The calls occur mutliple times a day, during and off business hours and on holidays (2x on the fourth of July). There are hundreds of similar complaints on the web demonstrating rampant disregard for the do not call list and a calling pattern that borders on harassment.Business Response

After being repeatedly spammed with phone calls from Vitalant, despite not having donated blood in years, I mistakenly answered a call today from a number I didnt recognize. It turned out to be yet another Vitalant employee, who immediately launched into a pushy donation pitch after confirming my identity. I politely but firmly explained that I am medically unable to donate and asked to be removed from their call list. Rather than respecting that and honoring my request, the employee had the audacity to demand my medical history so she could take a look and determine if I was really ineligible. This ask is beyond offensive. Vitalant employees are not my doctors, and I do not owe them, or anyone else, for that matter, the details of my brain tumor for the sake of justifying a very clear medical boundary.I flat out said that I was not providing her with my personal and private health information, and reiterated that I was medically unable to donate and wanted to be taken off of their call list. The employees shift in tone made it clear she was irritated by my refusal to comply, and she informed me I may still receive calls while they process the request. This interaction was invasive, inappropriate, and entirely unacceptable. If this is how Vitalant operates with aggressively badgering and guilt-tripping people into donations and prying into private medical matters, then it's no wonder people are turning away from donating blood with them. Their desperation does not excuse their complete lack of professionalism or respect.Business Response

Back when I was in high school (2018 or 2019), I donated blood to Vitalant through a school blood drive. It is now years later, and despite repeatedly requesting to be removed from the call lists, I am still receiving calls multiple times per month, even per week. One of the times I called, I clearly stated that I did not wish to be contacted ever again, but the woman on the other end refused to take me off the list. She claimed she changed it to "one call every three months", which appears to be false, as I have received more than 5 calls from the company since May 30th. Every time they call, I block the number they called from, but a week or so later, the calls start again from a new number. Since calling and saying "stop calling me" obviously doesn't make a difference, I'm hoping this will.Business Response

When I was a sophomore in high school, I decided out of the kindness of my heart that I wanted to donate blood to those in need. Little did I know that this would be a terrible mistake that would plague me for nearly a decade. This company has either sold my personal information or hired an outside company to call and ******* people on & on for years to come no matter how many numbers you block, how many times you tell them to stop calling. I have blocked over 25 different phone numbers they have called me with and advised them to stop multiple times and no change. I am absolutely sick of looking at my phone at the end of each day and seeing a missed call everyday for the last 9 years.Business Response

1rst I want to mention I used to b in medical school & 5/27/2025 I visited the Vitalant location on 4th ave downtown Pgh at 12:00 pm to earn a gift card by donating blood and my left hand hemoglobin level was 11.4 and my right hand level was 11.7, too low to donate so that same day I went out & bought iron to increase my hemoglobin level and the next day bought vitamin b12 b/c i wanted to donate platelets and some point. I re scheduled my appointment back at the downtown pgh location for 6/3/2025 at 12:15 pm and gave ****** my right hand to test my hemoglobin level b/c i knew it would be higher than my left and ****** said my level was 11.5, but if my level was 11.7 BEFORE i started to take iron how could it fall to 11.5 so I knew ****** was lying & i stood up to look at my left hand hemoglobin level myself and it said 12.4. I can GUARANTEE my right hand hemoglobin level was 12.5 or higher and I would have been able to donate blood & earn a gift card but ****** LIED so that i would go home empty handed. Like i said earlier I used to be in med school, the systemic blood leaving out ur heart on ur left is gonna have a lower hemoglobin content than the blood on ur right coming from the portal circulation going to the heart 2 b cleaned out by the lungs, THATS Y I GAVE HER MY RIGHT HAND FIRST. Plus, ur left vs right hemoglobin levels might b off by 0.2 to 0.4, it could NEVER be a 0.9 difference between ur left & ur right, ****** LIED BECAUSE SHE DIDNT WANT ME TO RECEIVE THE $30 GIFT CARD. From being in the emergency room to learning what its like on the battlefield I know how important the availability of blood 4 transfusions can b, and lets not start on the heartbreaking St Judes commercials where the need 4 platelets come into play, I am SO ANGRY she lied so that i wouldnt b able to help save a life and I want to know how this situation is being rectified b/c if ****** had the audacity to lie to me as educated as i am who else is she lying to.Business Response

No I didnt take a picture of my hemoglobin read out because i would never think ur employee would lie to me when Im doing ur company a favor. Next ur not even addressing the issue, Im black I came to donate blood and ur employee said my right arm was 11.5 and when u stood up to look when she read my hemoglobin for my left it said 12.4, AFTER i told ****** that i went out and bought iron and vitamin b12 pills because my last hemoglobin count was 11.4 on my left and 11.7 on my right. This time my left was 12.4 so i guarantee my right side was 12.7, ****** LIED SO THAT I WOULD NOT DONATE.Business Response

Greetings ****,
I appreciate your prompt response. In an effort to thoroughly investigate the situation, I asked if there was a picture. No offense was intended. I am equally challenged with low hemoglobin and have been turned away when attempting to donate blood because donating at that time would not have been safe for me. Additionally, I am a black woman who recognizes the importance of collecting blood donations for patients of our demographic in communities throughout *******. Vitalant advocates drawing and supplying blood products to patients of African descent and actively promotes the importance of our lifesaving efforts for all patients. I assure you that the allegation of refusing a blood donation without just cause is serious and any misconduct will be addressed appropriately.
I ask that you not allow the experience to deter you from donating blood to help patients who desperately need our continued support. In my experience supplements took a couple of weeks of daily use before my hemoglobin levels were high enough to donate. I experienced different levels when tested; sometimes my right hand produced a higher level and other times the left finger ***** resulted in higher levels. There are many suggestions for raising levels to the required 12.5. I located the Amish Iron Drink of orange juice, black strap molasses, and nut butter (I am vegetarian) recipe via a ****** search and this works best for me when I drink it daily for 1 to 2 weeks prior to donating.
Again, I am partnering with the leadership team at the donation center for review of how you were treated during your visit. I invite you to respond with any additional questions or concerns and rest assured, I am working on your behalf.
Thank you for your partnership with Vitalant.

I am requesting the removal of my phone number from Vitalants call list.
