I have 2 separate issues with them that I have not been able to resolve despite dozens of emails and phone calls.

The first issue is that I have some microinverters that were faulty. In April and May after troubleshooting with SunPower, it was determined that all 36 of my SunPower microinverters needed to be replaced. I opened a case with SunPower and ****** ******* and ****** ******* made an appointment to come out to replace all of the micro inverters. For some reason, on the day of the replacement both SunPower AND ****** ******* had technicians arrive and it was determined that SunPower crew would end up doing the work. They replaced 12 of the 36 microinverters and said they would have to finish on another day. Then SunPower started a bankruptcy process and it was impossible to get in touch with them. Repeatedly reaching out to ****** ******* to finish the job that was started has gone unanswered or told me that I have no recourse.

My second issue is that starting around the same time (April 2024), I began receiving emails from ****** ******* about increasing the size of my solar system without losing my net metering status. Their emails claimed that it was a limited time offer, despite this offer still being possible today. It felt shady. In any case I pursued this option. I met with my original salesperson, David **** who explained that it was a secondary system. On multiple emails, in person visits and phone calls (of which I have documented), he explained that the new system could EXPORT to the grid, as long as I was not exporting more than my current solar allowed for (around 10 kWh in my case). After the system was installed, I found out that this was NOT the case, and that I purchased way too many panels since I would not be able to use the power being generated by the new panels.

After getting supervisors installed, they stopped responding to my questions about both issues.

Hello thank you for reaching out about this

We have already had extensive back and forth with this customer. His defective micro inverters were replaced by sunpower and the system is functioning. He does have recourse with the solar panel manufacturer ****** If he has a bad panel and with ******* for the micro inverters If there is a problem in the future but for now the system is working. There is not a warranty issue here as the system is working.

As for the non-export system the customer purchased. It does not export to the grid. It's literally called a "non export system", calls out zero export on the order form and there is a detailed explanation on his contract regarding this which he initialed specifically explaining this.  We did offer him a discount on a battery at cost to help him capture more electricity which is more than reasonable but he's pressing for more.  There's not much more to discuss here.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 06/14/2025

My original system has 36 solar panels. My system is reporting 34 panels, and 2 inverters are basically producing nothing each day. So yes, my system is PARTIALLY working, but I'm more than 10 percent less than it should be.  They had a case open to replace the remaining 24 inverters but that was closed after sunpower declared bankruptcy.

As for the non export system, I was completely misled by repeated incorrect statements from the salesperson.

I have attached numerous email correspondence where he talks about production and then says NOT to get a battery. I also have 2 different phone recordings where he explains that as long as the total production between BOTH systems doesn't exceed the initial systems limit, it would export to the grid. Kept talking about the loophole and that's why the contract said 0 kWh.

      Business Response

      Date: 06/20/2025

It is illegal in California to record someone without their explicit consent.

Nothing in those emails indicated that a non export system will export.

The system is not under producing original estimated.  You may contact the manufacturer.

Due to the illegal recordings have referred this matter to legal counsel and will no longer correspond here.

      - Absolutely the worst customer service!!!Representatives never return calls and fail to give accurate updates on Solar Panel projects. Search out other Solar Panel companies first before selecting Semper Solaris. In addition Semper Solaris took around a month to return my call call for a problem I had in my system which resulted in my electric bill doubling!!! Please look at all reviews before making a decision on this company! Wish I had went with another company. After spending close to $60,000!! Seeking compensation.

This customer has a single micro inverter that is defective from the manufacturer enphase.  This means a single panel on his system is not functioning.  The replacement part has been provided to the customer by the manufacturer and we are in the process of scheduling the installation.  A single panel malfunctioning did not result in this customer's electric bill doubling.

April 25th, 2025 i wrote Semper Solaris CEO to notify him that his company had failed to meet my solar requirements and promises from the sale team. I worked my way through several levels of customer service where they admit confusion and fault, they did try to offer solutions but not at the level that was promised to me. I still do not have backup power in the event of an outage.

Semper Solaris installed 32 Solar Panels 5 yrs. ago. In that 5 yrs they have replaced 6 Optimizers under warranty at NO CHARGE as my contract states. (See attached). They now want to charge $700 labor to replace 1 Optimizer. They have replied back twice, once offering to do it for half. The second time to do it FREE THIS TIME, but moving forward I’d be charged labor (parts covered by mfgr.)
My agreement was for 25 yrs. I would not be charged for failed equipment.
I reluctantly am hiring an attorney to look at this.
I have also learned that 6/32 failed panels in 5 years is very high failure rate and other problems may exist. I need to have this investigated but do not trust SS.

Why is Ca BBB doing business from Az?

      Business Response

      Date: 05/15/2025

      Thank you

Our contract does not say we will provide work for free.  There is a charge for this repair.  The material is supplied for free from the manufacturer under warranty.  The homeowner may also contact the manufacturer directly for replacement.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 05/16/2025

I have attached the portion of my contract that states that Semper Solaris will repair broken parts UNDER WARRANTY WHEN SUPPLIED BY THE MANUFACTURER. The mfgr. has a 25 year warranty.
I asked the salesman if the warranty covered labor also. He said it did. I had asked the salesman (Kevin Hatfield) to be sure that was in the contract.
If you look at the fact that they have been here no lees than 10 times to replace 6 Optimizers over 5 years WITHOUT CHARGING FOR WARRANTY LABOR. WHY NOW? What has changed? My contract hasn’t. If they felt they could’ve been charging me previously, they would have.

      Business Response

      Date: 05/19/2025

      Thank you

Our agreement does not say that we will perform this service for free.  In the past sometimes we have done certain services at no charge but we are not opting to do so in this case.  The homeowner will either need to pay for our labor or we can refer this matter to the manufacturer and they can take care of it themselves.

Please let us know when you get a chance if you would like to cover our labor costs or if you would like us to redirect you to the manufacturer for them to service.

      Thank you

      Customer Answer

      Date: 05/28/2025

So SS has offered to do THIS replacement of the failed Optimizer at no charge THIS TIME BUT WILL CHARGE LABOR IN THE FUTURE. This is not what the contract says.
They say we are at an impasse and I should be call the mfgr. MY CONTRACT IS FIRST WITH SS, not the mfgr. SS sold and installed this system. They are in the contract as CONTRACTOR and responsible to abide by the CONTRACT. The mfgr. is doing their part by supplying the optimizer UNDER WARRANTY.
Is the BBB going to do anything else?

Closed on a house built 2017 with existing solar panels and equipment installed by Semper Solaris. Solar Transfer Information completed and accepted by Semper Solaris 5/30/2024.While solar production appeared to be functioning, no communication with equipment (SunPower) could be established. Warranty claim submitted with/through Semper Solaris 06/17/2024. After many requests (multiple case numbers), Semper Solaris sent out various technicians and determined a communication module (MySunPower) needed to be replaced. As of 11/4/2024, replacement time was given as 2-3 weeks. Part apparently never came in from **********. Following multiple attempts more with Semper Solaris, MySunPower and later with ********************, no resolution to warranty claim has occurred. It has been over 325 days since my warranty claim was submitted with no resolution and no meaningful contact by Semper Solaris to resolve my solar communication issue. The problem they state is with the bankruptcy with ********** and part(s) are not available.Semper Solaris should stand by the products that they selected and installed and assure they function as intended.I even identified the part (new) on **** (<$100) and offered to purchase it, if they would install. They said someone would contact me with a quote, which never took place.Short of giving up totally on the installed equipment and contacting another company to install, I as the consumer am at a total loss as to how to get the warranty claim honored at any sort of reasonable cost.I request that Semper Solaris correct/repair my communication issue, so that I can know how or if my solar system is functioning as designed.

I agreed to purchase a solar and battery backup system from Semper Solaris back in November 2024. Our agreement included a $5.000 battery rebate which would offset the total cost out of pocket for me. I would never of agreed to the purchase without this rebate. Our sales rep ****** ****** guaranteed that this rebate was still available and would process it immediately. I provided all of the information from my SDG&E account he requested and needed to process the rebate. Our system was installed in January 2025. We have been attempting to reach our sales rep ****** regarding the status of our rebate since then with no response to texts, emails or phone calls. We finally heard back from ****** on 4/2/25 by text. He was requesting the data from my SDG&E account again so he could process the rebate. He claimed that "the rebates team" usually handles this, however, they asked him to do it this time. This is completely opposite of what ****** told me back in November when he requested the rebate info so he could process the rebate himself. I replied back stating that I sent him the info back in November and I will resend the same email back to him. After this interaction with ****** through text, I reached out to Semper Solaris customer service...which is non existent. After several attempts by phone and email, a manager named **** ***** reached out to me vial phone and text on 4/10/25. He reassured me that he would get to the bottom of this and claimed that he would call me back. He also told me that he has ************************************************ He also reassured me that he would always return calls and texts...I have not heard back from **** since our first conversation. If Semper Solaris is unwilling to refund the $5000 they promised me at the time I signed the contract, I would like them to come and remove the Solar and backup battery system they installed as I would never of purchased this system without the $5000 rebate.

Required timed homeowner electric use information was received too late for the application window at the end of last year.  Another window will open this year and we will apply at that time.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 05/15/2025

Semper Solaris is lying.  I provided the electric usage information before I signed the contract.  I was told by my sales *** that there was plenty of money still in the fund when I signed the contract.  Semper Solaris never submitted the rebate when I gave them the usage information back in November ************************* again for the same information this past April.  I would never of signed the contract without the guarantee of the $5K rebate.  I have emails with the proposal that includes the rebate and the email of me sending them the usage information.  Semper Solaris can pay me the $5K and get it back if and/or when they want to resubmit the rebate.  Semper Solaris lied to me when they told me I would get a rebate.  If they do not want to pay me the $5K, they can come me take off the Solar panels and Battery.  If they are unwilling to do either, I will be contacting the CA ****************** ****, Tesla, the finance company, The County of ********* and the Star of CA to lodge formal complaints about how Semper Solaris is getting people to agree to purchase their product with a promise of a sizable battery rebate that never happens.  This seems to be something all of these entities would be interested in.

      Business Response

      Date: 05/19/2025

      Good afternoon

We will be able to apply for the rebate when it opens again this year.  We are not lying, SGIP put its program on hold for part of the year and changed the application process and the specific information required (electrical use information).  If the homeowner wishes to report the matter to various authorities that is okay with us as we have done nothing wrong.

Home Solar Project with 2 Batteries for storage. We signed in Nov 2023, the project was supposed to be completed by March 2024. Today in April 2025 it is only 90% complete. The incomplete items include the **** incentives for the 2 batteries. There is some trenching work where the wiring went through some concrete (driveway), which they haven't filled up. When we signed the contract it was supposed to be a complete project, now they say the trenching coverage is our problem. I have already paid for the system.I have asked to someone senior in the company preferable the CEO, but I can only communicate with **************** Agents. The work they did was good and works quite well but they refuse to finish the work.

      Business Response

      Date: 05/13/2025

Hello thank you for reaching out about this.

The Battery incentives must be applied for one at a time.  First one than the other.  We have explained this to the homeowner multiple times and sent them the appropriate paperwork but they have yet to sign it insisting that we must apply for both at the same time which is not permitted under the rules.  They're welcome to apply on their own if they prefer.

As for the trench this is not covered under the scope of work for the project.  This has also been explained many times.  We did offer to defray part of the cost but the homeowner is not satisfied.

At the end of December, 2023, my wife and I received a "true-up" bill from San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) stating we owed over a $1,000 for the year due to our solar system NOT providing us with enough electricity that resulted in us having to use SDG&E's electricity, We have had solar system since 1.2.18. In the past, our "true-up" bills were for only around $200. Realizing this was a dramatic difference, we reached out to Semper Solaris on 12.30.23 to see how this possibly could have happened. It took until 2.2.24 before a Semper Solaris representative emailed us stating our solar system was not operating due to an internet communication problem that he believed was due to the 3G cell kit Semper Solaris originally installed NOT working due to SunPower (the manufacturer) switching to a 5G system. Unfortunately for us, Semper Solaris did NOT contact their 3G customers telling them this would happen. This started a nightmare scenario of Semper Solaris blaming the manufacturer of our solar system, SunPower, and having us do their work by constantly calling SunPower for updates on when this would be resolved. It took until late March, 2024, before our cell kit was upgraded to 5G. Now that we had communication back with our solar system, we could see via a SunPower Apple iPhone app that one of our solar panels was NOT working at all. Again, after much time spent on the telephone with various representatives of Semper Solaris and SunPower, and a Semper Solaris field technician inspecting the system on our roof, it was determined that the cause of the one solar panel NOT working was due to a Micro Inverter (MI) NOT working. Semper Solaris never could get us a new MI. One reason was SunPower went bankrupt during this time frame. Bottom line, we have a 25-year warranty on our solar system, but Semper Solaris has stopped answering our emails and phone calls. We only have you, BBB, to get them to honor their warranty without us having to go to court.

      Dear BBB and Semper Solaris:

I hope this finds you well!

While I appreciate that Semper Solaris has located a replacement micro-inverter to address the issue with my solar system, I must reserve judgment on the resolution of this matter until the unit is installed and my system is fully operational. Given the extended delay of over 18 months, I remain cautious and will withhold satisfaction until the repair is successfully completed and verified.

      Sincerely,

I am experiencing ongoing issues with our solar inverter, which has been failing multiple times a day and requires a physical reset each time. It's only been 1.5 years since installation! We were informed that it's common for inverters to fail, but given that we invested $30,000 in solar batteries, an inverter, and HVAC from your company, we are extremely disappointed with the lack of urgency to address this matter. Our electricity bills continue to rise due to these ongoing issues, and when we attempted to reach customer service, our call was disconnected when we requested to speak with a manager. This is particularly disheartening coming from a veteran-owned company that claims to prioritize quality. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend your services to anyone. It has taken months to get a technician to evaluate our system, and now we have been told we must wait even longer for "monitoring." This situation is completely unacceptable.

Battery backup installed March 2022. We contacted ***** ***** on 1/22/25 when we were told there was an issue with our gutter system that had cause our dryer to blow the circuit. We were told that if we got the issue fixed we could lose our warranty for our backup system. We had four Polaris connectors that were corroded or exploded which were changed by ************** costing us $550.00. These were changed in the gutter. It didnt fix our problem and we contacted Semper again. It took almost a month for them to come out. The electrician they sent was shown our Polaris connectors and he didnt even check the gutter system he just replaced the circuit breaker that had blown from the extreme heat. We were looking to install 4 new circuits from aluminum to copper. When the company came out he gave our electrical system a safety check with inspection and thermal inspection. He looked inside our gutter system install by Semper for our backup system and it is really extremely upsetting what was found. There are numerous issues. We have major water damage inside with rust and corrosion. Connection point exploded grounding system is compromised due to water damage. Polaris connector exploded. Major water damage from poor sealing of the gutter from top and sides. We could also have mold damage in our walls behind the system. We will be having our system completely replaced when we have our 4 220v circuits switched. We do not trust the electrical work to be done Semper Solaris since the electrician didnt even look at the main issue. They have been terrible and after I told the last supervisor from customer service that we had thermal imaging and it shows all red we have never heard another thing from anyone. I am a disabled veteran and also an electrician for 40 years and used them because they were a veteran owned business. I just want reimbursement for the cost Ive spent due to their poor installation. Sorry I have no trust in their company anymore.

Hello thank you for reaching out about this

We are more than happy to send an electrician to the customer's residence to inspect and repair any issues.  We are not willing to pay another electrician's exorbitant rates.  Not to mention the estimate provided by the homeowner covers things not related to any repairs such as upgrading wire and installing a whole house surge protector.

Let's schedule a time to address any needed repairs.

It is not an absorbent amount and the NEC2020 code states that we must have disconnects and a whole house surge protector. Maybe your electrician should look at the laws because they do change. After all most three months we received a call yesterday that they will be here Monday to look into the matter. We do not feel comfortable with Semper making these repairs since they installed the entire unit wrong and didnt follow the code in effect since we got our install in March of 2022. They have also been out since this whole matter happened and were shown the Polaris connectors that were destroyed and all they did was fix the breaker that was blown by extreme heat. We have already signed a contract two months after contacting Semper to have this repair fixed. Are you going to repair the mold in our walls from the terrible sealing or the gutter and boxes? Your electrician didnt even think it was important to look into the gutter when here.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. They came out and inspected their work and acknowledged their errors. We never received the report from their company only that they agreed to our terms after the inspection. They agreed to pay for the repairs we needed to correct their installation by the company of our choice. Signed an agreement to receive our payment and repairs have already been completed.

      Regards,
