I work as a traveling infusion nurse for ******************* (UHG) UHG uses Hire Right to perform periodic Motor Vehicle Background checks on their employees. Hire Rights most recent motor vehicle background check that was submitted to my employer indicated my drivers license expired in 2020 when in fact it did not and has been current from issue date on 7/1/2020 to expire on 6/30/2024. Due to HireRights incorrect information, I have been placed on administrative leave. I have submitted a dispute claim through HireRight and sent them copies of my current drivers license along with my certified motor vehicle record from ok.gov. Hire Right has informed me this issue may take 30 days to resolve. Not only do I only get 5 days of administrative leave pay through my company (UHG) this error will result in needless extra costs by UHG as will require contracting outsourced nurses to take my patients until this issue is resolved due to Hire Rights mistake. I have contacted UHG HR department but it seems as though this issue may rely entirely on HireRights dispute process. If BBB can help speed this process would be greatly appreciated.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. The issue has been resolved due to my diligence of emails sent up the highest chain of my employer, which included detailed info regarding dispute along with attached records supporting my dispute. My company attempted to escalate resolution with Hire Right but after immediate resolution was deemed unlikely, (Hire Right still requiring response from DMV) My company submitted urgent request of my motor vehicle background check through a consumer reporting agency unrelated to Hire Right. The results were obtained from this company and DMV in less than 8 hrs and I was cleared to return to work 4th day post dispute claim.

I did receive an email from HireRight 6 days post dispute claim informing me my dispute case had been resolved with results to be mailed to me and my employer, which I have not received yet. Thankfully my employer went through another agency to get the issue resolved. However, I am very much appreciative of BBB efforts and time spent on my case.

I have been offered a position with USAA contingent on a background check. USAA contracted HireRight to perform my background check. HireRight managed to pull the wrong information for 3/4 of my employers that I listed, and didn't attempt to compare/verify the information that they pulled against the CORRECT information that I provided to them. I listed the name of 3 employers, TEKsystems for two different positions, and ******************** for another on my employment history, and HireRight pulled entirely different company names for both. For "TEKsystems" they pulled a company called "Aerotek (***), and for "******** ************ they pulled "************************************" which doesn't exist in the same town that I provided. I managed to have the issue with TEKsystems fixed by submitting my **2, but they also required THREE paystubs along with the **2 for verification. The work I have done for ******************** was freelance, so I was not given a **2 or **** for the company. I provided HireRight with the correct business name and contact info multiple times over the phone and on live chats, which they still never fixed on the report. I provided HireRight with the following evidence of my employment with ********************: 18 invoices that I sent to the company, 80 emails from the owner requesting work, multiple screenshots from the owner showing checks written to me from his business for work peformed, and an official memo from the company going into detail about my employment with the company. HireRight did not review any of this initially, and closed out that part of my employment as "unable to verify".Yesterday, upon threat of lawsuit, they finally did reach out to the contact info I provided them for verification of employment with ********************, AND THE WRONG COMPANY NAME WAS STILL LISTED ON THE FORM. The business owner had to correct the form for them. I am waiting to hear if my employment will be verified.

After submitting my background application, HireRight responded with a June 7th to June 10th completion date. Since then it has been nothing but delays. I have reached out to HireRight through multiple forms of communication and I get the runaround about the progress of my report. The only thing am told is that progress is at 86% completion with only one county needed to be checked. It has been the same status for the past three weeks. Similar to other complaints Im given a new date a week from my call. That date comes and goes and no new progress is made. HireRights lack of urgency on these time sensitive applications has caused my start date with my new employer to be delayed multiple times due to an incomplete background report. Recently I was informed that my background would be completed July 26th since my case was being worked on by HireRights internal team. However, no progress was made and when I reached out I was given a revised date of July 29th. Well, that date has also passed with no progress to my background report. I dont understand how a background check can take over 40 business days and counting. I did not apply to a government job, but even then I think their process would be faster than HireRights.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. Most searches completed quickly with one pending. An appellate court decision in the state where the search is being conducted limited access to identifying information by third parties, such as background check companies, and this has impacted searches where a clerk must conduct the search or when the search involve searching off-site. The states Senate has passed the *** Bill (SB1262), which is a new legislation bill, in order to address the problems created by the decision. The prospective employer has been notified of the delay in this search. We look forward to the completion of this search and thank you for your patience during this process.

Instead of providing a general copy and paste response, HireRight should be transparent and notify the contracting company of their 3-4 month clearance process. It is irresponsible and a financial burden to applicants who, like me, were not told of the expected delay and gave their ex-employer a 2-week notice. The delay completion of a background check further puts the candidate at risk of having a job offer rescinded. HireRight needs to update completion turnarounds and not give applicants misleading timelines.

Estimates of how long a search might take are simply estimates. Most estimates do fall within or close to the estimated processing time. On day one of this reports ordering, notation is made to the report about some delays that have been experienced at the source which could cause the search time to exceed 30 days. Reference was again made later in the report about the delay at this source. This is why some employers may choose to hire an employee provisionally while a remaining search may continue. Such hiring decisions are made entirely by the prospective employer. We understand and apologize for the frustration that this process can bring.  We look forward to the completion of this search as soon as possible. Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
