    My Registered Agent with Compliance Essentials renewed in June, 2025 with a $200 price increase, going from $299 to $499. This is a ridiculous change in price for the same service. I tried to refuse the charges on my payment card but was asked to talk to LegalZoom. Legalzoom's response was that a refund for a canceled annual subscription was impossible. They could only offer me last year's pricing, so essentially I would be paying $300 for a service (Registered Agent) that I wont use or need as I have already transferred to a separate service for a much lower price. The fact that this is not only happening to me but other customers are filing complaints should tell you how egregious this is.

    LegalZoom charged $1,274 for undelivered and unauthorized *********** January 2024, I paid LegalZoom $441 for a Premium DBA filing service in the state of *******. The service was never completed. LegalZoom later admitted this and issued a refund only after multiple requests and escalation efforts nearly 18 months ******** addition, I discovered that I had been charged $49 per month for 17 months (totaling $833) for a Business Advisory Plan subscription that I did not knowingly enroll in and never used. These charges were not clearly disclosed during checkout, and I received no communication alerting me to the ongoing subscription.Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue directly, LegalZoom has only refunded the original $441 and has failed to provide any resolution or further refund for the $833 in unauthorized subscription charges. Their customer service responses have been vague or noncommittal, and no one has confirmed whether the subscription refund will be honored.LegalZoom presents itself as a legal service provider but is not a law firm. Customers can easily be misled into expecting attorney-level accountability and support, only to receive minimal customer service and automated responses.This complaint seeks a full refund of the $833 in subscription charges and a public record of LegalZoom's failure to provide transparency, customer care, or ethical billing practices.Desired Resolution:A full refund of $833 for the unauthorized and unused Business Advisory Plan subscription.

    Business Name: LegalZoom Complaint Type: Billing/Collection Issues Complaint Summary: Fraudulent Charge for Compliance Filings Subscription Using Updated Credit Card Info Without Consent LegalZoom fraudulently charged my credit card in July 2025 for a Compliance Filings subscription renewal I did not authorize. The original subscription began in 2024, and I had no intention to renew. In fact, I received an email from LegalZoom saying my credit card had expired and asking me to update it to avoid service disruption. I did not update my card, and I did not approve any renewal.Despite that, they somehow processed the charge using a credit card with a new expiration date, which I had never entered into their system. This is a major breach of billing ethics and consumer consent. I disputed the charge within 30 days, but LegalZoom refused a refund and claimed it was part of the original 2024 orderwhich is clearly false, as this was a new charge for the ******** service term.This is unauthorized billing behavior. I am requesting a full refund of the July 2025 charge and an explanation of how LegalZoom obtained and used my updated credit card information without my consent.

    Summary of Complaint:LegalZoom misrepresented the services included in my LLC formation package by claiming my identity and personal information would be protected. Despite this assurance, my name and home address are now publicly tied to the business. This contradicts what was promised and is the reason I chose to use LegalZoom in the first place.Details:I hired LegalZoom to form an LLC, and during the process, I was explicitly told that part of the service included shielding my identity and personal information. This was a key selling point for me and influenced my decision to purchase through them.After formation, I found that my personal name and home address were publicly associated with the **** LegalZoom failed to deliver the service they claimed was included. At no point did they explain that additional services or fees would be required to ensure privacy, nor did they clarify any limitations. This was a misleading representation of what I was paying for.I believe LegalZoom used deceptive marketing to sell services that were not actually provided. I am requesting that LegalZoom either correct the issue by implementing the promised privacy protections or provide a full explanation of why this was not done and what steps they will take to resolve the exposure of my personal information.Desired Outcome:I want LegalZoom to either retroactively apply the identity and privacy protections that were advertised or offer a full refund and assist in resolving any lingering exposure of my personal data. I would also like them to update their sales and onboarding language to ensure no other customers are misled in the future.

    I have been paying for this subscription since 2021. They filed my initial filings for my LLC, then sent me 3 messages in 2022 to remind me about annual reports. I missed the notifications and they never reached out again. I never ended up launching my business and went to close it in 2025. They won't let me out of this subscription that is $299 a year. I can't close my LLC through them because my LLC isn't in good standing because the annual reports were never filed. They advertise that my subscription covered the following:Registered agent to receive physical legal notices Registered agent inbox for convenient digital access Creation and filing of initial report (varies by state)Creation and filing of annual reports (varies by state)Compliance calendar alerts about your requirements Minutes manager for company record-keeping Unlimited cloud storage for all your documents Not only do I not have access to any mail, I was never notified of the missed filings after 2022. They are refusing to do filings for me and locking me into this insanely expensive subscription that does nothing. Now I have to figure out what to do on my own, their support is horrible. Their service is MISLEADING and false advertising. Your support is literally telling me that I am paying for "Creation and filing of annual reports" and then walking it back and saying they're just a RA and they did their job by sending me messages in ********************************* again. I am looking for a refund for this service. It is falsely advertising it's features.

    LegalZooms attorney-led trademark package is presented as if it includes real legal guidance, but in practice it falls short in important ways. The experience starts off promising, with an attorney consultation and support through the filing process, but the moment a real issue comes up, they step back entirely and youre left without ******* my case, shortly after filing a trademark through this package, I received a cease and desist letter. This wasnt something I was prepared for, especially after speaking with the assigned attorney. The consultation mainly focused on the possibility of the ***** rejecting the ***** but they never clearly explained that legal threats from third parties could follow or that LegalZoom wouldnt help at all if that happened.I understand they operate under a limited scope agreement and that certain services fall outside of whats covered, but the way this is handled is where the problem lies. I specifically chose the attorney-led option so I could get meaningful input on legal risks like this. Instead, I was told to go ahead and file, only to learn later that LegalZoom has no responsibility once the application is submitted. That creates a false sense of security. It feels more like they just want to move the process forward, knowing they wont be around to help if anything goes wrong.This left me in a vulnerable position at a critical time for my business. Whats most frustrating is that this could have been avoided with better communication. If the attorney had clearly explained the full range of risks and the limitations of their role before filing, I could have made a more informed *********** sharing this to warn others who might assume theyre getting real legal support with this package. What youre actually getting is a basic filing and a short conversation that doesnt cover the kind of issues you might realistically face.

    In the first half of June 2023, I canceled all of my services and subscriptions with LegalZoom. I received partial refunds at the time and was led to believe that all services were fully terminated.However, I was charged $280 in late June 2023 for an Essential Compliance Package Renewal, even though I had already canceled my services. I did not authorize or knowingly renew this service.Without my knowledge, I was then charged again in 2024, and most recently on July 2, 2025 for the same service (Order #********), totaling $840 in unauthorized charges over three years.After recently noticing the 2025 charge, I contacted LegalZoom. They acknowledged the issue and issued a refund for the 2025 charge. However, they refused to refund the 2023 and 2024 charges, citing a 30-day refund policy even though I had no way of knowing the service remained active.I am requesting full refunds for both 2023 and 2024 ($560 total). These services were never intentionally renewed, and I was never notified of the upcoming renewals. The charges occurred after I believed all services had been canceled. This has caused unnecessary financial and emotional stress.LegalZooms automatic renewal practices and lack of clear communication feel deceptive and misleading. I hope the BBB will support my request for a fair and complete resolution.

    I had an annual subscription for several years with LegalZoom for a registered agent for a company that is no longer in business. This amount was $299 a year through 2024. This year, the amount increased to $499, a 40% increase, without any prior authorization, only an email invoice that went to my junk folder. When my bank called to report this $499 charge as possible fraud, I immediately called LegalZoom and was told that this was the new price for a registered agent through LegalZoom, which is a service that would be conducted over the next 12 months. When I asked to cancel the registered agent subscription within days of the fee being charged to my account and receive a refund since I would not be using the service, LegalZoom refused, saying that I needed to give them proof of a different registered agent hired by a third party in order to cancel their services and that a refund wasn't possible regardless of if I acquired a new registered agent elsewhere. After speaking to a manager, they agreed to refund the extra $200, but only if I paid for a third party registered agent first or dissolved the **** I elected to dissolve the *** in order to receive a partial refund and discontinue my financial relationship with LegalZoom. I have just paid $300 for a future service that was not and will not be rendered by LegalZoom or its affiliates.

    I paid LegalZoom $403.95 on July 2nd, 2024 for Standard Foreign Qualification Order #******** LegalZoom failed to deliver the service as expected, and when I contacted them for a refund, they refused, citing company policy even though I reached out in good faith.I have made multiple requests by phone and email, and I have documentation of my attempts. I believe this is unfair business practice and am requesting a full refund of $403.95.If LegalZoom declines to resolve this through the BBB, I will pursue complaints through the ******* and California Attorney General, and consider filing a small-claims case.
