  Unfair Handling of Dispute No Protection for Customers I used ********************** to hire a mover and paid a deposit in good faith. After agreeing on a price, the provider later increased the fee significantly. When I chose to cancel due to this bait-and-switch, the provider refused to return the depositeven though no services were provided.I reported the issue to Thumbtack expecting fair mediation, but they closed the case stating they couldnt require a refund. Their justification ignored the core issue: the price was changed after our agreement, and I canceled because of that.This lack of protection makes the platform feel unsafe. It opens the door for dishonest providers to keep deposits with no accountability. Thumbtack failed to uphold trust, and Im extremely disappointed with how they handled the situation.Customers deserve better.

  Do not use them for leads!!! They have pulled over a $100 for leads from me and I haven't even accepted or responded to the leads! They won't return my money They are definitely scam artists!

  Frustrating Experience for Small Business Owners As a professional using Thumbtack to grow my business, Ive found the platform to be incredibly unfair. Ive been charged over $100 for two leads simply because the customer selected my company directlyyet neither responded at all. These types of charges are automatic and non-refundable, even when theres zero interaction.Worse, Ive received leads completely outside my job preferences or with incomplete/inaccurate information, yet I'm still billed $50+ for them. It feels like a system designed to generate revenue for Thumbtack, not to actually help small businesses succeed.If you're a small business owner trying to build your reputation and get real leads, I do not recommend Thumbtack. There are much more transparent and cost-effective platforms out there. You're better off investing your money in ****** Ads or local marketing strategies where you have more control and accountability.

  I recently looked at Thumbtack to increase my client leads and quickly realized it seemed scammy and I decided to not continue. They flooded me with emails that doesn't have option to unsubscribe. unsubscribe button or link in their marketing emails. This is mandated by laws like the CAN-SPAM Act in the *************, which requires businesses to provide a clear and conspicuous way for recipients to opt-out of future marketing emails. Failure to include a functioning unsubscribe mechanism can lead to penalties and legal issues which I will pursue if it continues. 100% DON'T RECOMMEND.

  This company is reactivating accounts and then charging fees for leads that they will then not credit back after filing refund documents. This has happened to me twice... once when I logged in last September to which I was charged over $400 which I did not get back. I then deactivated and what I believed, was deleted my account. Suddenly 8 months later I was hit with 4 new charges of leads on a business I no longer even have and, on an account, I couldn't even find in the search engine. They gave me the run around even when I explained time and time again that the email used on the account is no longer active and that I believed that I had deleted my account back in October. I would never use this company as their practice seems sneaky and shady to say the least.

  I booked Hexagon Cleaning through Thumbtack, and the experience led to serious harm connected to my disability. Thumbtack removed my factual review, allowed this provider back on the platform, and offered no accountability. I have filed complaints with the *** and Illinois Attorney General. I am leaving this BBB review because I want others especially those with disabilities to be warned that no safety standards are enforced. Do not assume protections are in place.

  Thumbtack is a ripoff to the contractors that they are supposed to serve. If you dont set your prices incredibly low youll never land jobs, customers can select 5 different contractors and all 5 will get charged about 10-20% of the entire cost of the job, even if none of them actually get the job. Ive lost way more money by using Thumbtack than Ive ever made from it. Last year alone Thumbtack took up nearly half of my entire revenue.

  If I could give them 0 stars I would, this company is a SCAM!!! They will charge the pros for leads that are clearly fake or does not match your preferences (example, you can block a day on the calendar and if someone selects that date, you get charged for it, even if its blocked!!!) and then they refuse to refund your money to your bank account, but instead "credit" you the $$ that you should have never paid for to begin with. Leads have cost me up to $70 and its a scam if they are able to do this c*** without having to actually refund the money. DONT DO IT. This company needs to be sued and shut down.

Please keep in mind that all sales on Thumbtack are final and non-refundable per our refund policy in our Terms of Use ( ******************************************* ) under the section Thumbtack Fees and Taxes., which all users on Thumbtack agree to upon signing up. However, we know every dollar counts when you are a business owner, so there are certain situations where we will add credit back to your Thumbtack balance. Some leads related to marked-off dates may qualify for a refund, and others may not.
  
  Let's say a customer contacts you with a job for a specific date that isnt flexible. If you've blocked off that date on both your calendar and your business hours, you can request a refund for that lead. This only applies to leads that indicate a specific date that isnt flexible, like planned celebrations such as a wedding or deadline-specific projects such as a move.
  
  Leads that are flexible on dates or don't specify an exact date wouldn't qualify for a refund. This includes when customers indicate that they are "open to other dates suggested by the pro. However, if the customer refuses suggestions for alternative dates and replies saying they're not really open to other dates, you can also request a refund and well look into it.
  
  To make sure that you don't get any leads or bookings when you're not available or on vacation, you can hide your business  ( *********************************************************************************** ).   I was referred to Handy Rocky Mountain Man and paid them $800 to pay for a window. They took the $800, then kept coming up with excuses as to why they couldn't do the work. Eventually they no longer returned calls or texts and stole my $800
