I have been a loyal Thumbtack Pro for 4 years and just today I got charged 6 leads that were out of state when my radius for business was set for "5 miles" within my location. I did this, specifically, because when I first signed up 4 years ago I got a handful of leads that were out of state. The rep at the time said I had to change my radius and parameters, so I did. NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM SINCE... until today. So, I'm thinking it is just a hiccup. 1) They're stupid automated service is the most frustrating thing I've ever encountered. When you try to call their customer service line it forces you to do the "help desk through text". 2) When I finally got ahold of someone they told me, "We'll refund it if you accept the leads and then submit a dispute form. It can take up 4 - 5 business days for it to refund." So, I have to accept the charges then hope they refund me? How does that make sense? 3) Finally they told me, "Looks like your remote training was set for 'targeted leads' so that's why you were charged." BUT I had it set for a 5 mile radius of my business so why is it now, all of a sudden, being targeted around the country? No straight answer, just a "well, that's what your parameters said." I am very disappointed and plan to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

This company probably let its contractors buy their ratings. I would NOT trust the ratings of any of the businesses advertising on this platform. My story: I am building a detached garage so I went onto different sites to look for contractors. One of the contractors from Thumbtack, ***************, contact me to set a meeting for an initial consultation. Because I had set up meetings for 5 or 6 potential contractors, I wanted to wear a GoPro to keep a record of who said what. When the project manager from IMD came he saw I had a recorder and he immediately said he doesn't want to be recorded and told me he could do business with me. He promptly turn around and left without saying a word. I gave them a 1-star review for the interaction. Within an hour the owner of the company contact me asking me about the bad review and how it would affect his business. I explained what had happened and have video proof of it. He then apologized and ask if I can remove my review. I said no and that his PM was not professional when we met. The next day, Thumbtack emailed me saying they had to remove my review because it has, as stated; "violated our **************** Policy."How is that a violation of their review policy when it has everything to do with the interations between a business and its clients? I believe that this company will remove bad reviews for the sake of keeping its advertised business happy. So all the 5-star reviews you see there are because the bad reviews are weeded out. I will never hire any business from Thumbtack.

He became upset and said he didnt need a license to do work. We Could not find business or any kind of licensing on file for himDid not hire him. I called thumbtack and complained.

Thumbtack is an AWFUL company. DO NOT associate with them as a professional. I started a business page on there and loaded funds onto my account to start targeting leads. I then decided to go a different route with my business, so I contacted Thumbtack about getting my funds returned that were loaded but not used for ANYTHING, no services, no leads whatsoever, and they said no. There was nothing stating that those funds were non-refundable anywhere, and after asking for higher management to reach out to me, that was also denied. This company is a bunch of crooks, so tread lightly when considering starting a professional business page.

Thumbtack is horrible. They suddenly decided to switch to "auto pay" for "direct leads" for photographers and I woke up to find $20 missing from my account for a lead that I knew would not come through. If anyone is filing class action I want in. $20 is not a lot, but if you take money out of my account without warning, I will get angry, and I am now angry. They said they will refund it, but only in the form of paying for future "leads"Cancel Thumbtack, it seems like a good idea, but they are doing it wrong.

Hired a pro and job was left incomplete leaving my home at risk to be flooded. I contacted Thumbtack solution center and they a refund was agreed upon through the pro, Man of all Trades. The refund was never received after reaching out to the pro several times. Thumbtack has just washed there hands of the situation and I had to hire a company to complete the job.

THUMBTACK POLICY IS SIMILAR TO A SCAM. I pay more money to receive leads than I do earning money with Thumbtack. It is a horrible policy for example when I work Uber or Doordash they send jobs and i ONLY PAY IF I ACCEPT THE *** but with thumbtack EVEN IF YOU DONT LAND THE *** YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY and we are talking expensive leads that run over $100 for a lead and there is no guaranteed I will be hired. Let's say a clients reviews 5 pros 4 pros will be penalized to pay IT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG. Currently, I have a **** of $150 with Thumbtack that must be paid for in order to get more leads but what if the person doesn't have the money to pay it? This means the pro is not able to acquire customers to earn money. It is very frustrating and it makes me sooo mad.

*****, we really appreciate your business with Thumbtack and your account shows that you are a valued pro on the site. We are here to help answer any questions and provide information on our policies to help you be successful on the site.As you're aware, we are a lead-generating platform. Customers who have projects or jobs that match your targeting preferences that you entered into your account can reach out to you to learn more about working with your business. When this happens, you are charged a lead fee. You're paying for the value of being connected with a potential customer whether or not you're hired. This of it as traditional advertising much like a billboard. As for lead pricing, that can vary based on market factors, as well as the type of job, size of the job, location of the job, how many pros are providing that service in your area and the job value. We hope this info helps.

Pro's don't use this crApp, they charge you fees for direct leads that you can't decline, or opt out from. Also you have to set "spending limits".. I was just recently charged 15 bucks for a "direct lead" that I couldn't opt out or withdraw from. BTW, make sure your card can be locked if you save it on their system. Read this- Thumbtacks reply on August 4, 2021-"We do look into every refund request that comes through. As a lead-generating app, you are charged for the lead, not the hire". WTF
