I called Optima Tax toll free number and explain to them that I am the 3Rd party authorization to my husband case. I called to inform Optima Tax that my husband ***************************** had passed June 26, 2022. OPTIMA TAX STATED THAT THEY WOULD EMAIL ME A PORTAL TO SIGN PAYMENT AMENDMENT, which was emailed to me 8/2/2022. I signed my husband ***************************** up with Optima Tax to get help with his back taxes he owe to the **** I am his wife and I have power of attorney. I had a representative to help me fill out the portal my husband had paid Feb 2022 through July 2022 his next payment is due Aug 15, 2022. He **** 3 more payments. Optima Tax was inform not to withdraw from ****** ************ because they closed his account because he passed,, so when I told Optima Tax that I would like them to continue with his case they have all of his information already. I got to the last page and could not signed because Optima Tax had email a document that would not allow me to sign. They took my credit card Information and my address to the card and told me that $474.38 will be coming out of my account 8/15/2022, 9/15/2022, and 10/15/2022. I had to call back Then ****** at Optima Tax stated that they closed my husband case because he passed. I told ****** at Optima Tax. Why did your company emailed me the portal excepted my credit card and its documented on your portal your company email me. If they want closed my husband case because he still owe the **** Then I would like a full refund from Feb 2022 to 7/2022. Your resolution did not have other if they can't finish the job with fairness then I am requesting a FULL REFUND.Business Response

Dear ************************* Engagement Specialist with BBB. This is my rebuttal statement to the business response, and I am requesting to re-open my complaint. I spoke to *********************** from Optima Tax Relief today 8/29/2022. She had explained to me that Optima Tax would offer 50% what my husband paid. But when I read her letter to me, I was very concerned about the way the letter was explained to me. My husband paid $2,884.90 for a service never rendered to him. With the legal terms she mentions, I would have your office are and lawyer to advise me of my rights, before I sign a letter as the one was emailed to me. I requested a refund from their company at first **** offered me $300 which was very low, I told her no way. I have the monthly payments that was withdrawn from my husband checking account from Feb 2022 to July 2022. When I spoke to *********************** for Optima Tax Relief, I thought that it would be and easy transaction. A brief letter with the Refund amount and then I DocuSign, but it's a long letter, and Optima Tax Relief is not Refunding Half of the payments my husband paid over the months. Also, I would have to make sure that I can cash the check are deposit the check She had address the Refund to the Estate of *******************************. I request my case with Optima Tax Relief to be reopened I have a right as his wife and a 3-party authorization and having ***** of ******** to request the Full Refund of what my husband has made payment for his Consumer Rights were violated, and Optima Tax Relief is making it very hard for me to receive a Refund with no legal ties they are trying to strip me from my consumer rights. With the legal letter they created for me to sign to get a release of a Refund for that is rightfully due to me in Full.After reading that letter, I seek to request to re-open my case with BBB, **** said she have a person at BBB that handle Optima Tax Relief her name is ********* her email address is ***************************@bbbcommunity.org . I am seeking a full refund for the legal letter that was released to me to sign in order for me to get a REFUND FOR A SERVICE THAT WAS NEVER RENDERED TO MY HUSBAND/ AND I REQUEST SINCE MY HUSBAND ******************************* HAS PASSED THAT THE REFUND BE DEPOSIT IN MY ACCOUNT. Three years ago we paid Optima Tax Relief $10,000 to file tax returns for us and to reach a settlement for our 2015 and 2016 tax audit.In the end, they set us up on a repayment plan that we could've done ourselves. After settling the tax years this year with a tax attorney, Optima's negligence has been put in view. They never once contacted the *** on our behalf to disallow tax items. Also, they failed to file our tax returns which almost put us in jeopardy of another audit. We were appalled to learn that they took our $10k from us without doing anything. When we called them, we were rudely handled, none of our questions were answered, and they would only offer a partial refund. I retained Optima Tax relief a little over a year ago. I paid close to $12,000 to be in compliance with I.R.S. that mostly included late penalties and interest, or so I was told. I paid my bill in full in May 2022 and I've gotten the run around ever since. Just recently, I was told that Optima can longer help me and that there's nothing else they could do. I've called several times and spoke to ******, ********, ****** and ***** over the last few months. At least 3 quarters of those phone calls I was told I would receive a call in ***** hours which sometimes would not happen. My case was never assigned to a case manager and I was always asked to fill out forms more than once. I'm extremely disappointed in Optima services, because I could have taken a few vacation days and called the *** and save myself $12,000. What is also interesting was that, if I called 3 different times, I got three different answers. Optima has not bargained with me or dealt with me in good faith. Oh, by the way, I'm getting yet another phone in a few weeks from someone in customer relations, I don't need another phone call. I need to know when my tax situation will resolved or when to expect my refund, plain and simple. If I get no satisfaction or resolution, I will reach out to ******************* next.Business Response

In October of 2021, I paid this company $5700 due a tax delinquency. After approximately 5 months, I did not receive any communication from the company. I called to check on the status of my case because I discovered that my wages were being garnished. After several weeks of going back and forth, the tax preparers finally filed my tax returns. After the tax returns were filed, it was discovered that I did not owe the *** anything. I inquired to the company asking for a partial refund as there was not a need for any further assistance. I was informed, after I spoke to at least 10 different representatives, that once my taxes were completely resolved, they would be willing to speak with me. I was also informed that my last payment would be waived. The latter was an effort to keep me from filling a BBB complaint. My taxes and other needed paperwork was supposedly filed to the *** in April 2022. After contacting the ***, they still have not received my amended tax returns, nor an insolvency worksheet for my student loans being dismissed. I called Optima and was informed that I could not speak with my case manager because I owe a payment. I have gone back and forth with this company and to this date, my tax situation has not been resolved, I have not received any additional information about the $5700 I paid, only to have three tax returns filed. I feel as if I have been scammed and I would appreciate assistance with this situation.Business Response

This month will be exactly one year since I notified Optima of my need for *** tax help. I was told upon signing up that it should take no longer than a few months. I paid $5,000 for your services. As a 78 year old widow and a recent cancer survivor, I was so hopeful that I was in good hands. That was not so. Optima had be on a merry-go-round for all of these months. They continually asked me for the same information all the while promising that the "Tax Professional" will be going over my info and contacting the *** very soon. The first few months, Optima put me in a tax area even though my taxes had been filed. I let them know that several times but I was kept in that area with no progress. In December of 2021, the agent took down all of my info again and said they would like to wrap up my case my December 31st. During the year I was given info by the many agents in our unit which was alarming. When I asked if the *** needed info as to how I got to this place the agent replied "they don't care....besides they are talking to a machine...not a person". One male agent shared that the "tax professional" only looks at a chart because they already know what the *** will say???My salary went down this past year by thousands of dollars due to Covid, etc. I am under water with my bills by $320 per month. Optima agents gave me an offer to pay $300 plus per month or $$545 per month. I was told if I could not do that, they will again contact the *** on my behalf. If I had signed on with either of those options I would be lying to Optima and worse yet, the ***.I have continually requested that the "tax professional" contact me directly and was told that he cannot be reached by phone??? I have not been contacted since 8/9/22 by the Executive Review Board. At that time, she asked me for more info which could change my status. I contacted her by phone and email the next day (8/10/22) to no avail and I have not heard back since that time.
I even reached out to the **************** by return requested receipt by US postal and I am still awaiting a response.
That is the present status on this complaint.

I hired them to negotiate tax settlement options with the **** Paid 500$ for an initial review. Then about $7,000.00 for them to proceed. They say takes about 2-6 months. Its almost 6 months now. ***************************** said she was handling the case. Then sent me an email saying I owe about $ *********. There was no explanation , no forms, no breakdown- NOTHING and she said she was done with my case, another **** the resolution **** now handles it.She never gave me any further information. When I got a hold of that **** they had no clue about my case. That was THREE weeks ago. The only one that answers my call is ********* (the operator )and she has tried to help but no one ever calls me back. I would like to know what in the world is going on??! I was charged a fee of $5000 to receive legal tax aid from Optima Tax Relief. We started out with the company in January of 2020 to get our tax issue resolved and settled with the **** They claimed to insure that they would help us to get compliant with the *** and settle our tax debt with the *** for less than was owed. It has been 2years and they have made countless mistakes with our case. One mistake they made was filing our taxes with the incorrect number of dependents. This not only caused a huge and stressful delay in getting our family financially compliant with the *** and therefore closer to tax relief, but it caused us to receive a filed tax return result from the *** saying that we owed money instead of what it should have resulted in which was a tax refund! The delay resulted in a second or amended tax return being necessary, which again dragged out the time line for us to receive a tax resolution and payment plan established with the **** Then once the taxes became amended by the *** on May 20, 2022 Optima Tax continued to tell me on multiple phone correspondences that they were still waiting for the *** to finish amending my taxes. This was clearly misinformation as I just stated that my irs.gov account showed the evidence e that it was already completed and it was Optima Tax that had been wasting my valuable time by sitting on their hands instead of working g hard for their valued customer. It took me argueing with ******************** Tax on the phone last week July 22, 2022 and insisting that our amended taxes were in fact already filed, before one of the managers finally agreed to contact the *** and arrange a payment arrangement. Today August 1,2022 I called back to see if they reached out to the *** and though they finally did reach out, I was informed that they didn't have time to call the *** today and accept the payment agreement on our behalf. And that they might get around to accepting on our behalf in the next 3 weeks. I have waited almost 3 years.Business Response

I am not satisfied with the company's response concerning the before stated inconvenience. As stated in my original complaint letter, Optima Tax is responsible for the delay of our tax filing process. The tax professional omitted our entire 10 dependents on the taxes, which resulted in an unimaginable delay in our process. We had to endure an additional step in the process due to Optima taxes negligence, which involved an amendment of our taxes. The extra time required for this extra step, has costed us additional accrued tax liabilities, specifically penalties and interest. I have already stated that I would like to be compensated by Optima Tax with a financial refund of the original $5000 paid to them by myself and my husband for services. I contacted Optima in April 2021 for help with filing 4 years of unfiled tax returns. I paid them a total of $3,575 for this service. I have not received a single copy of a tax return filed on my behalf. *** has no record of receiving my returns for 2016 and 2017. I am still receiving demand notices from the *** for all of the years handled by Optima. They have made a mess with my tax account. I called and requested a copy of returns filed on my behalf and was told that there is a payment issue on my account. I made monthly payments to ****************** on this account until 2/23/22, when I paid off the balance due to Optima in the amount of $1,590.23, so I don't see a payment issue.I should have received copies of any paperwork filed with the *** on my behalf and I want the copies now!Business Response

This issue has not been resolved. I had to hire a tax professional to review the files sent to me by Optima. She has informed me that Optima filed the same information for two years of my returns! I have not been able to reach anyone to speak with her about this issue.Business Response
