I contacted interstate roofing after Hurricane ****** hit to assess our roof and siding damages. **** ******** from interstate came to our home on Oct. 15th. he went on the roof, took video and pictures of our roof. he spent some time with us explaining the damages and asked if we would sign with interstate to do the repairs. he stated that he would work directly with my insurance company and "take care of us" whether we needed a new roof or if we just needed repairs. We signed the agreement to have them do the work. The next day Oct. 16th my insurance guy came to the house and Deke met with him to discuss the damages. Later that week we got the insurance adjusters report and sent it to Deke through email on oct. 21st. Deke replied on Oct. 24th via email saying he would take a look at the insurance's response. It wasnt until Oct. 30th that Deke responded to me through text saying he would contact his GM. I had a couple of more texts saying he would come out to our house. the last communication i recieved was Nov. 1st. i reached out via text a few more times with no response. I contacted the head office via email to see if Deke still worked there on Nov. 25th. then on Nov. 25th i got a phone call from Deke apologizing and saying there was no excuse for not communicating with me. he said he would get a contractor to come out and try to match my shingles since the insurance company i only needed minor repairs. from Nov. 29th to Dec. 13th i recieved a total of 3 text from Deke saying he was finding a crew to do the repairs. then after Dec. 13th I have not heard anything from him. I understand that crews are busy, and my roof isnt a priority due to minor damages, but its been almost a month now. I have sent him 3 follow up texts since Dec 14th with no response. i contacted headquarters again with no response. At this time, i would just like to be released from my agreement with them so i can find my own contractor. we signed with them because of their BBB rating.Business Response

Interstate Roofers provided me with a new roof in July 2024 and I received the final invoice on August 9, 2024. Although I paid the bill in full, I became aware of some discrepancies. I first reached out and spoke with someone from Interstate on August 30. On September 9, I was put in touch with that person's supervisor, ***** *********. It took a total of four phone calls on September 10, but Ms. ********* finally acknowledged that Interstate had charged $903.44 for materials and work not complete. Interstate did refund me this amount. However, I continued to crunch the numbers and have conversations with my insurance company (****), because charges weren't lining up. **** sent me every invoice Interstate submitted to them. I also tried to work with Ms. ********* to figure out the source of the discrepancy; she acknowledged that I was owed money but insisted that USAA and not Interstate was responsible for providing it. I last spoke with Ms. ********* by phone on October 7. I explained that I had given Interstate a total of $21,640.67 in insurance funds (which I can document); the final bill was $21,118.48, leaving a remainder of $522.19. Ms. ********* said she would escalate my issue and there would be a resolution. I haven't received any contact from Interstate Roofing since October 7 and would appreciate the $522.19 they've inappropriately impounded.Business Response

Hello *******,
The final invoice was presented to it at the time of final payment. The line items that are included in final invoice match those that are on your insurance scope. The insurance company dictated the scope of work on your project. We completed the work per the insurance approved amount thus resulting in the invoice matching your insurance scope.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

The roof failed to pass regional building inspection. Interstate Roofing was notified by the Inspector of the failure and the reason why. On 5/2023, following hail damage, ************************* (BJ) from Interstate Roofing (IR) sold us what he stated was Duration class 4 roof impact resistant shingles. Since our insurance provider State Farm (SF) offered a 26% discount on homeowners insurance for a class 4 impact resistant roof we decided to proceed with upgrade in roofing material. June 2023 BJ contacted us stating the brand of roof we contracted was not available, and same quality (class 4) roof was Certainteed Landmark Driftwood. We agreed to change, since we are not roof specialists and in the good faith, we believed that BJ was truthful on what he is selling to us. The roof was installed and paid for in full . We contacted SF to obtain premium discount. On 05/21/2024 after presenting roof documentation, we received email from SF, stating the roof that was installed is not class 4 roof. It is not even a class 3 roof. Installed shingle 2023, is not considered impact resistant or rated. We have tried several times/means to get on hold of IR. On 5/21 & 28, 2024 sent text/email to BJ, from IR who sold the roof to us. 06/03/24 sent email to ************ from IR, who replied that ****************** will contact us. 6/11/24 sent another email to ************ who replied that ********* will be contacting us. No reply from IR. We also contacted the shingle manufacturer and they too have confirmed that the installed roof is not class 4, in the matter of fact, 2023 this shingle did not even have a rating at all. It is our understanding that ************************* lied to us, misrepresented the product and misleads us by selling/installing the roof that is very different from what he sold us. We would like a full refund, so that the class 4 roof can be installed allowing us an annual 26 % insurance premium discount or at least a significant offer of acceptable reimbursement to make up for this shortfall and the increase in insurance premiums that we may end up paying for the next 15+ years or lifetime of the roof.Business Response

This is to let you know that State Farm (SF) has reviewed the Interstate Roof (IR) letter from the manufacturer and deemed that information presented to be inaccurate. According to recognized testing agencies, the installed roofing material, Certainteed Landmark, that was installed on our roof and that was produced in 2023, this material was not classified as class 3 or class 4 nor impact resistant product. IR is aware of this outcome since they received the reply from SF on 08/12/2023. Per our contract and per salesperson ************************* (BJ), we were supposed to have class 4 impact resistant roof installed. None of this is the case - we received unrated roof product that is not impact resistant nor class 4. As of today, IR has agreed to compensate us only for $2500 for the non-rated, non-impact resistant roof that was installed on our residence. Our losses on the roof are far bigger than this offer. After talking to our insurance agent, *********************** (and you or IR can contact him to verify that statement) we can provide you with the attached insurance documentation calculating what does it cost to us have a nonimpact resistant roof now. It will cost us about $1000/ year additional insurance premium. The insurance agency is estimating this kind of roof to last far less than the promised roofing material prior to needing to be replaced. After replacement our insurance deductible will go up about $5000 to replace the existing roof (our deductible right now little over $3000 and new deductible in case of roof replacement will be little over $8000, can be documented by SF). Due to IR salesperson BJ false statements on the sale of this roof, our out-of-pocket costs will be about $10 000.00.According to IR spokesperson statement, salesman BJ does not recall selling us class 4 roof but he recalls selling us an impact resistant roof. It turns out, we did not receive class 4 or even class 3 NOR product. Please also see attached copy of the text message from BJ where he falsely states that the roof that will be installed to our property is same quality as the one that he sold us. Those, IR offer to reimburse us $2500 is not acceptable. We are not asking any more or any less than what it cost us to have and replace the lesser quality roof that BJ misleadingly sold/ installed for us. Please see attached documentation and correspondence.
Sincerely,
***** And ***********************Business Response

About 3/4 of the way through our home improvement project that included total window and siding replacement and reconstruction of two decks, Interstate Roofing became disengaged, difficult to get a hold of and ultimately non-responsive to attempts to resolve issues and complete the job. Multiple attempts to reach company leadership yielded little results. They have no- showed for multiple county inspections creating auto failures and current inspections have uncovered additional faulty work.Business Response

Hello,
We understand that this project has taken much longer than anticipated. We are looking forward to closing out your project. We were under the impression that we did not need to be present for the electrical permit inspection, albeit we did have a representative from our company present. With all things considered at this point, I would like to set up a time to meet with you so we can come to a solution and resolve your issues. I will be reaching out next week to coordinate a time to meet with you.

I am rejecting this response because: an offer to reach out, as stated in the response from Interstate, does not constitute a resolution. No one has yet followed through to contact me as of 4 pm 6-25-24. These types of promises to follow up are typical and *** did not follow up after my earlier complaints to see this through to completion, as he said he would. The fact that Interstate claims they were unaware of the requirement to be present for the inspection demonstrates the lack of engagement and follow through. The inspector communicated that requirement clearly. They only sent an interstate employee after the inspector noted failures during the second attempt to conduct the inspection, which by that time, was already in progress. The individual that showed up had no knowledge of the job and told me he was there to make sure our roof passed inspection (the roof was not being inspected).
Interstate needs to have an individual with management authority follow up with the county and the electrician to schedule and be present for the third inspection. They need to communicate a plan to close any items uncovered in the inspection and, upon passing the inspection, they need to do a final walk through so we can close the project out. I am requesting this all be done within the next two weeks from today.
Sincerely,

*********,
A representative from Interstate Roofing being required to be present for an electrical inspection for work not completed by Interstate Roofing is something we were not aware of nor have been exposed to previously. We are now currently working with ***************** to have this rescheduled, as of today we do not have a date. I am continuously following up on this to ensure we can get this on schedule. For the next inspection, either myself or ***************************** will be present. I apologize for the lack of engagement you have felt up until this point. We are working diligently to close this project out. As soon as I have additional information I will reach out to you directly.

On 9/21/23, I met with ***************************** from Interstate Roofing to discuss repairing hail damage to my roof, trim, and gutters. From the beginning, I made it clear that I could not afford the full 2% deductible due to my home's increased value. ******* assured me that excluding some work would offset the deductible, which was a great relief. The contract totaled $22,140.58, with $10,000 paid by my insurance. Despite the roof being completed in November, several is***s remain unresolved:The contract included work on gutters, paint, and a table, none of which were completed. ******* led me to believe that these savings would offset the deductible. If I had known the savings would be only $1,600, I would not have proceeded with the contract. ******* assured me that excluding certain work would help offset the deductible, but he never specified the savings. Now, he is threatening court action, asking for three times what they are owed plus legal fees. This misleading information has caused significant financial strain. Additionally, another contractor quoted me $3,500 for the same unperformed work, highlighting the discrepancy. An extra $2,000 was added to the final invoice without clear communication. ******* initially said the uncompleted work savings would cover the deductible, which contradicts the current claims. The permit pulled for the roof reflected a value of less than $8,000, raising concerns about the accuracy of the invoice compared to the actual work and materials used.Mismanagement of Funds: ******* claims that the workers from my roof have not been paid and that they will also *** me. I have no agreements with the workers; my agreement is with Interstate Roofing. Despite paying $10,000, the companys handling of these funds is unclear, and the work remains incomplete.Interstate Roofings communications included inappropriate references to my financial situation. Despite clarifying my financial constraints, the company made unfounded assumptions.Business Response

Interstate took nearly one year to complete the repairs on our roof. The repairs themselves were done poorly at best with materials and trash being left all over our property and nails being left strewn all through our yard.Work was incomplete and left without gutters for nearly two months.Invoice amount changed several times, and the total amount was increased after the insurance claim came through. We would like to be done with business from interstate and will look to complete the rest of the work they should have done with other contractors.Business Response

*******,
I have reviewed your complaint and your file. We are committed to customer satisfaction and are looking to resolve this issue with you. Due to the unprecedented damage from the major hail storms last year, material manufacturers were not prepared to support the ******** market with asphalt shingles coupled with distribution companies also falling behind. This caused delays on every end as we struggled to obtain the necessary materials needed to complete our roofing projects. I understand there is also an issue with additional work outside of roof to be completed on your project, I would like to discuss this further with you via t/c. I will give you a call as a follow up to this.

I want my new roof. I signed a contract on 8/8/2023 with Interstate Roofing. The address in the Headquarters location in ******. I asked, but did not include in the contract, that they send someone out to caulk around one of the exhaust chimneys. "We'll see what we can do"...They can do nothing evidently. I got a text in Sept saying they were waiting on the white shingles I wanted. In October--near Halloween--I got a text saying someone else was handling my account and his text was to introduce himself. The shingles should be available shortly and the job should start in the next few weeks. I have called the week before Christmas because the roof is leaking around the vent pipe. They have not returned my call. I called today and got an answering service. Have not had a call back yet. BBB should be my next stop, I figure. Below I seclected 'finish the job'. Actually, I want them to at least come out and do temp repair until the roof can be done!Business Response

*****,
We certainly apologize that you are experiencing difficulties with getting your roof replaced. We have had an unprecedented amount of storm damage across the front range in 2023. The amount of roofing materials needed to sustain the excess of roof replacements has not been met by the shingle manufacturers. While the manufacturers have increased production, there has still been a lag with getting the materials into the market.
To my understanding, a representative has recently met with you to resolve this issue. The outcome of the meeting resulted in a new shingle manufacturer choice that has been confirmed available. As soon as the weather allows, we will coordinate a delivery and move forward with your roof installation.
Please kindly reach out to us should you have any additional concerns.
Thank you,

The company came out and looked at the leaking and damage. Now they are requesting more money from my insurance company and evidently they will not replace the roof unless and until the insurance company gives them more money...another excuse. There wouldn't be as much damage as there is...and there is more since they came out and looked...if Interstate Roofing would have done some minor caulking in August or even when they were here to view the damages. I don't know what to say.

I have a "no soliciting" sign on my front door and Interstate Roofing has knocked on our door twice wanting to look at our roof. I've explained to them that they are not to knock on doors with "no soliciting" signs. The guy that knocked today argued with me and my husband for a few minutes even though I told him it was illegal to solicit to me with the sign I had posted. He wouldn't leave until we told him we were going to call the cops if he didn't go away.Business Response
