I’m writing about an offer received from Homeserve in Norwalk, CT dated 10/02/2023. The wording is so misleading, I had to read the offer three times and make note. Their heading, in bold Re: Exterior Sewer/Septic and Interior Plumbing and Drainage Line Information for (gives our address)
Keep in mind we just had major work done on the septic tank, so this when this popped out in dark bold lettering, the first thing my mind did was excuse any wording that said “NOT COVERED”. I saw Septic Tank, Leach field, pumps or grinders
In addition, the following page repeats the Exterior sewage/septic farce as such : “Homeowners are responsible for their exterior sewer/ septic and interior plumbing and drainage lines”. Yes. That’s a fact. But this coverage offer doesn’t help with all of that.
Down further in smaller print: “Coverage **ALSO includes the septic line, from the external wall of your home up to the point of connection to the septic tank on your property. That one word **ALSO has implications. Under this, on a line all by it self they have Septic Tanks, Leaching fields, pumps or grinders
It appears to the reader like this:
Coverage **ALSO includes the septic line, ……
Septic Tanks, Leaching fields, pumps or grinders ….
In the important coverage section, after reading it five times, it’s clear they cover one thing only
      THE EXTERIOR SEWER SEPTIC LINE.
This coverage doesn’t include tanks, leachfield damages, interior damages, nothing but that one line that goes from the external wall up to the connection of the septic tank.
A hone owner who’s just spent thousands on repairs looks at this with hope and misses ALL the misleading lingo. There are over 16 misleading statements, words and contradictory lines to confuse even a seasoned septic tank owner. I personally will let Utah home owners know to look for this misleading “offer” and to dispose of it immediately. Misleading=don’t trust.

First and last time I'm using this company. I've been paying these folks for years. I had an outside water line leak. They dispatched a plumber the next day. That plumber stated that someone else had to find the leak. 5 days later, the leak detection company came to my home and found the leak. 2 days later, the original plumber sent some kid out who dug around and told his company that the plumbing was installed wrong. Service line warranties stated that this was not covered. I find it odd that the plumbing was installed wrong since I had the house built and the city of Tucson inspectors would not have let that happen. After the kid dug around, he turned my water pressure down to a drip and left for another job. After that, I called a real plumbing service who came out the next morning and had the leak fixed in about 2 hours. This plumber stated that the copper pipe failed due to the hard water, and that the line was indeed installed correctly. In short, I paid hundreds of dollars in payment to Service Line Warranties, had to wait a week for repairs, and had to spend $1400 that should have been covered. I there was a negative star rating for this company, I would have used it.

I am guessing that HomeServe drops the cost to local plumbers and they (local plumbers who contract with HomeServe) don't have much responsibility to make it through.
My sewer was blocked, and I requested the HomeServe. *********** ********** ** stopped by and tried to hydro jetting. They could't get it through because of blocked with TP in the middle of line. They also find out there is a broken pipe at the beginning of the clean-out. They left because I had to fix the broken pipe first. To an estimate, another guy came over on the next day, he put the camera into line, The sewer line blocked in the middle of the line and he couldn't get it through because he didn't bring the equipment (sneak). He called HomeServe and HomeServe denied service because my blocked area is outside of the property line. My sewer line passes through an easement (I have the right to access my line legally). They deny the service because the blocked area is outside of the property line.
It's a very ridiculous situation. Most of the sewer line is connected to the (city) main line, which is outside of the property line. They deny service and repair because it's outside of the property line.
I asked a few times about clear terms for service boundaries. They just said HomeService just covers the inside of the property, which means they will not cover if the block (broken) happens in between the property line and the city main.
I left message about clear service boundary, they never get back to me. The leady I called just repeart that HomeServe cover just inside of the property line.
I want to hear from HomeServe.

I am writing this for my mother. Her hot water heater went out on July 26 and needed a new one. She had Home serve as a warranty company and called. They sent a plumber out to look at and he informed her that home serve only would pay 1050.00. He also said it would take an additional 4 to 5 hundred dollars to bring to code. This is an old house in the country never been any codes before. My mother is on a fixed income and really did not have the extra money to pay out. The plumber told her he would look to see if he could put a smaller one in to help on cost. A month past and no hot water heater. I then called home serve and the plumber and told him I would pay the extra cost just get one and put it in. This was around August 20th. With my mom calling at least once a week to home serve and the plumber with promises to come out he finally shows up on September 29 and looks at a says he will be back. Shows up yesterday and says now he can’t do it for the almost 1400 that he said he could do it for. Now it was going to cost around 2000 or more. I admit the house is older and probably needs these updates but why not let her no from the start. She has been more than patient with this guy and home serve I would say. It has been a little over 2 months without a hot water heater to be told something from the start. Sincerely no longer a customer.

To say I have been disappointed would be an understatement. After experiencing backups and slow draining, I called and paid a plumber to come out who used a camera to look at my lateral sewer drain. I was shown and informed that there was a permanent blockage as he could not get a camera all the way through the external wall of my home to the property boundary. I called Homeserve who sent out a plumber who DID NOT have a camera. When I called and requested a plumber with a camera, I was informed they denied it because there was no current backup (you cannot see the permanent blockage without a camera). I have since called eight times and each time I am given a different reason why they denied the use of a camera. Furthermore, on two separate occasions I was informed by the customer serve representative that they approved the use of camera, and someone would reach out to set up a service. No one ever contacted me and when I called to follow up, I was informed that they declined. I have also requested a call from a supervisor on five sperate occasions and have never received a call. I am currently sending a certified letter to lock in the date before my term expires and reaching out to the BBB and Attorney Generals office.

Had this service for several years.
      Never filed a claim
Recently I had a leak from the pipe
going to the outside water valve for my hose. My first claim .They told me it's not covered. Being confused because I had indoor pumbing warranty. I than asked about another
Issue with my radiator valve leaking.
Not cover. My home has Radiators
In which are are supplied plumbing.
I don't think it's fair they can pick and choose what is covered. There should be a law that have to give full details
      on everything that is covered

As a long-time customer (5+ yrs) who had multiple waters heaters at investment properties insured by them (until today), HomeServe cannot be trusted.
HomeServe picks the plumber. HomeServe's plumber decides whether to repair or replace and whether any what they call "upgrades" are needed. HomeServe sets the prices. And only HomeServe's plumber can perform any of the work.
HomeServe's prices are so inflated--and the maximum coverage so low--that the it can be not only more expensive to go thru insurance than to simply pay out of pocket but way, way, way more expensive.
What good is insurance that, if something goes wrong, is more expensive than having no insurance at all? None at all.
