I paid to renew my AARP subscription in early June 2022, however, in August they sent me a request for my dues payment as if they'd never received my payment two months prior.
Today I phoned them and had an amazing conversation with the fellow who took my call.

He said if I'd paid the second time for the same one-year renewal, AARP would keep both payments. I said that was illegal. He assured me it was legal!

He said if I called up and asked for a refund for one of those payments, they'd give me the refund. But unless I requested it, they'd keep the money!!
I had to draw him out on this topic, but those are things he admitted to me during our call. When I asked to speak to a manager, he told me they were all too busy today. Hmmm...

This is a scam and a cruel joke to play on seniors, many of whom might not recall whether they'd already paid and instead just go ahead and pay again.
Perhaps seniors should consider boycotting this once beneficial organization that now preys upon those it claims to serve.

AARP client service interaction would be impossible for elderly. I managed my mothers finances until she passed away last week at 93. AARP client services both automated and human are horrible. Worst service interaction I’ve ever experienced. Good luck to the elderly interacting with AARP. I’ll look into if AARP provides any value because I’m of age now.

The free gift was a joke! So far I have found nothing that offers a discount, actually prices were considerable more when services were researched on web sites offering AARP Discount, The same services were found to be much lower using a "non-discounted" site. Never had so much solicitation for services since signing up with AARP.....Definately a scam! I would love to cancel my membership and find a way to remove them out of my email, texts, and mail! I have absolutely no use for AARP!

      Dear Ms. F****,
I have just sent you an email with some additional benefit information as well as advocacy information on your association.
AARP provides members the ability to control their communications preferences with the organization (through your online AARP.org account). However, on your behalf, I have arranged for these solicitatoins to stop. We appreciate your comments and hope we can continue to serve your best interests.
      Sincerely,
      Bruce

If I could choose 0 stars- I would. This is the worst insurance. I have been on the phone with the AARP Medicare RX Preferred Plan for 1 hour and 20 minutes (and counting) trying to resolve a debt that has been sent to collections for one of our residents. I have been transferred 6 times and each time the person on the other end says it's not their department and they are going to transfer to me to the correct department. This has been going on for well over an hour. The WORST customer service I have ever experienced.

Did you get a "Free Gift" offer for a 'Weekender Duffel FREE" for calling the Hartford to request a quote?
Don't waste your time, I did and here is what I learned:
      - You spend 20 minutes on the web site giving them EVERYTHING and then some
      - You then wait a couple weeks
      - You then get a very nicely printed Auto Insurance quote
      - Which happens to be 15 times what your current auto insurance is
      - Yes, you heard it right 15 times more expensive
But, hold, you then get the Duffle, not so?
      NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
El Capone practices were more human !!!!!
AARP rep, you want to get in touch with me, please use email:
