1 starPlease cancel my membership immediately.I was under the mistaken impression that AARP advocated for seniors and fought stereotypes about them, but now I see that is not the case.
I have been a member since 2003, but recently I reached out to AARP concerning a hideous commercial for Medicare Advantage featuring a character named “Medicare Martha”,(aka “Grumpy Martha”) who is a cartoonish caricaturization of an “old person”. She is stupid, shrill and altogether unpleasant, and the creators of this obnoxious ad campaign (********** ******, if you care, which you don’t) have dressed her in an old housecoat and glasses from the 70s. I have seriously not seen a portrayal of a senior citizen that even comes close to the offensiveness this presents.
I tried to bring this to the attention of your ******** representative, since AARP does not provide a way to contact them by any modern means such as email. I am not stupid enough to think that AARP alone has the power to stop these advertisements. What I did (again, mistakenly) believe is that AARP would at least try to contact the ad creators and protest against the flagrant misrepresentation of seniors. Instead, the reply I got was “contact them yourselves”. Well a) I have already and not surprisingly have subsequently been ignored and b) you, AARP, have a lot more “muscle” then I individually do in this and similar situations. The indifference displayed by AARP was quite the eye-opener.
I am not sure why I would continue to support an organization that has no interest in fighting negative portrayals of the group they claim to represent and advocate for. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Please cancel my membership immediately, refund me the remainder of my dues, and take me off any and all of your mailing lists.
*you might check out ********** ******* ******** **** and look at their reviews. I am far from alone in my anger and disgust. Oh wait, that’s right, you don't care.Review fromHoward L.

Junk mail train. I would have never joined if I had been made aware of how much junk mail would inundate my mailbox. Considering the challenging times we live in with waste and climate change, this is so irresponsible and incongruent with my integrity. I cancel my membership and unsubscribe me from all future mailings.AARP

They offer nothing more than junk mail. 3-5 pieces per day trying to sell me stuff I do not want. I requested they remove all mailings from my profile and those that they sell info to and they did not do it. I canceled my membership and they told me it’ll be another 12 weeks to stop receiving junk mail.AARP

They lie one lie after another. I have been trying to get my credit from a stay in Richmond VA on Aug 13, 22 and have called 12 times plus.
Each time they say we are working on it and have to call the property for wavier before you can get credit. Each time they say we can't get them on the phone so we will have to email them.
The property has agreed to give me credit they just won't give it to me.
They are the worst people to deal with ever. They take your money and they don't want to do anything to help you.
They think I am going to forget about it. Well it is no change that will happen.
If you are member CANCEL.
I and going to keep calling until I get to the top and my credit is given.
The BBB should close them down.AARP

1 starFleeced AGAIN by AARP. For an organization supposed to safeguard its members, they sure do a lousy job. A while back, I had opted for one of their annuity plans. BIG MISTAKE! Instead of pointing out both sides of that move (pluses and minuses) they focused on that aspect which would give them (AARP) the most dollars . That left its members (like me) stuck with a bad choice.
I want out of AARP and will NEVER again rely on them for anything!

I was told by Hartford Insurance that in order to get a discounted rate I would have to sign up for AARP. WELL, I didn't get any discounted fee with Hartford for my car insurance. The rate changed everytine I called them. They debited MY account in error, acted very unprofessionally when I called them, blamed their computer system for any errors and did not take responsibility for anything. They are the absolute worst insurance company I have ever done business with. I have canceled my policy with them, and NOW they refuse to refund me my payment. How could AARP suggest seniors use such a despicable insurance company? That its criminal. And now I have a useless AARP membership.AARP

My 85 year old mom called their towing service. They told her she was not covered, but if she gave them her credit card info she could just pay for it . She did. She waited at the post office where her car stopped from 11:00 am until I got home from work at 4:00. When I called them back to see what happened they said she was covered and saw no request for towing. The following day she got a call asking if she still needed to be towed. So obviously they did get the request.AARP
