On 12/22/2023, I bought three $200 Mastercard gift cards in one transaction (Transaction #1) and three $200 Mastercard gift cards in another separate transaction (Transaction #2) at Office Depot store in ********, ** (Store #: ****). The cash register indicated that one $200 card in Transaction #1 and one $200 card in Transaction # 2 were unable to be activated so refunds were issued immediately by the store for each $200 card in transaction #1 and #2.Two weeks later, I checked the balance of the remaining two $200 cards in Transaction # 1 and the remaining two $200 cards in transaction #2. All four cards showed inactivated. I called the card issuer Blackhawk at ************ two times and confirmed that both the remaining two $200 cards in Transaction # 1 and remaining two $200 cards in transaction #2 were not activated at all. The customer services representative advised that we go back the store for refund as the money should stay in Office Depots drawer somewhere. They also said that my case periodically happens at stores and all card purchasers need to solve the issue with the store where they purchase cards.I went back the Office Depot store (Store #: ****) in early January and talked the store manager ***** Partner. He confirmed that all four cards in the two transactions were not activated and copied receipts and cards. He said he was going to investigate it with its accounting department and I would hear something back soon. I have asked a few times about the refund status over the past few weeks but he had no update at all. I informed him on 2/7/2024 that I appreciated everything he has done on this. But I would file a claim with BBB again Office Depot and hopefully it could expediate the process by bringing this issue to the corporate levels attention. I understand it is a hassle for everyone. All I ask is to receive refunds for those four inactivated cards. Hopefully someone from Office Depot reaches out to me and I can provide all documentation.Business Response

Dear BBB,

We bought a one year McAfee virus subscription from Office Depot on 9/1/23 for $99. We received an email from McAfee that the service was cancelled on January 5, ****. I called Office Depots customer service number on January 21, **** and was told our service was active. I told them that although their screen says that, it was indeed cancelled. The customer service rep said it was a glitch in their system. She transferred me to Tech Support who told me, It happens all the time. Tech support told me I needed a product key and that I needed to call customer service to get it. I called customer service and was told this would be escalated and I would receive an email with the product key. We never received the product key. Ive called customer service and tech support numerous times to no avail.Business Response

I received an email yesterday stating that I signed up for Office Depot Business Select and that I would be charged $49 after a one-month trial. I never signed up for Office Depot Business Select.I couldn't find a way to cancel on the email or their website. I called Office Depot Business Select to cancel and get all of my data deleted - the computer hung up on me. I called Office Depot to cancel and get all of my data deleted - the computer hung up on me. I couldn't send an email to cancel and get all of my data deleted as there is no email address listed on Office Depot's contact page.Fraud is wrong and their penance should hurt enough that they won't do it again hence my demand for a $49 check (what they were going to charge me) and deletion of all of my data so they can't do it again.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because I requested deletion of my data so this cannot happen again plus compensation for the time I wasted trying to get my data deleted and submitting a BBB complaint. Nothing has been done except the sending of an email saying they made a mistake. Yes, I am touchy on the issue of fraud having been a fraud victim in the past.

I received an email that I was signed up - without my permission or consent - for a trial program of something called Business Select. If I don't cancel - and they are impossible to reach, I will be charged $49 for something I do not want. Further, I have been attempting to delete my credit cards from my account online and it is impossible. The voicemail menu keeps on hanging up on me.Customer Answer

I received an email from Office Depot thanking me for signing up for a free trial of their Business Select program. The email states at the end of the 1 month free trial, I will be charged $49 annually to the card on file. I did not sign up for anything. I hardly even shop at Office Depot. I tried to manage my account online with the membership number (without clicking possible phishing links from the email), but it cannot find my account.I am filing this complaint as a request for investigation, protection from any financial liability, as well as a request for all my information to be removed from office depots servers.Business Response
