On 2/28/23 I purchased a Fellowes **** 125 office laminator on my company purchase card for around $227. This laminator was used twice before it stopped working on 3/15/23. There is an issue with the power. The light comes on then the device makes a sound like a capacitor discharging and shuts off. Obviously there is a manufacturing defect so I took it back to the store to return. I was told they would not accept for a swap because it was over 14 days. (16 to be exact). I am very dissatisfied with this policy of not being able to return a defective item within 16 days. Especially an item that is used sporadically and obviously defective. My company does a lot of business with the local Office Depot and we are considering taking that business to someplace like ******* that gives you 30 days in such instances.Business Response

Dear BBB,
Thank you for forwarding our customers complaint. The store manager will allow the customer to return to store to exchange or return laminator.

On Nov. 27, 2022, my credit card had been charged $129.99 by Office Depot. I could not recall what the charge could have been for so I called Office Depot on Dec. 22, 2022 and I was told the charge was for an automatic recurring technical support subscription. I asked to have them cancel the subscription and refund the $129.99 back to by credit card. The lady said yes she would take care of this issue. By mid-February, I still had not received the refund, called again and was told please wait **** days for the refund to show on my credit card. By March 1, 2022 I still had not received the monies, call again and was told again to please wait **** days. I finally reached out to an employee where I had originally bought the laptop with the subscription, she said she would handle it though she said wait **** days for the refund. Still no refund. I am planning on going to that Office depot next week, get the business card of the manager or asst. ******** give them one final chance to correct this situation before filing a claim with small claims court.Business Response

I purchased 2 desks and one hutch from office depot on Feb 18. After recieving the item, I realized we ordered the wrong desk for the hutch. I called, requested return on the wrong desk and ordered the correct one. They charged me for the third desk and promised me to get back my money in 5 days. On March 1st, I called to make sure that they have got the item back at their warehouse. They confirmed and told me I will have my money back soon. 7 days later and on March 8, I called again to see where my refund is. I was told they don't even have the item yet! I said you told me before you have it, they said to wait till March 24 for them to get the item and then issue me a refund! I got angry and started a chat with them, I was told that they have the item on the chat!! And that I should have my money by March 10. March 12, still no refund. I was referred to their manager. The manager told me I will have the money back in 12 to 24 hours and gave me his email address. It's been 3 days now and still no refund. The manager stopped replying to my emails. It's been now 15 days that I am waiting on my refund each single time hearing something different.Business Response

I bought a hp laptop bundle with extended two year warranty from Office depot at **** Silverlake in ******** ***** for 1, ******. The laptop only cost $399.00 and some odd cents but I paid extra for extended warranty and two antiviruses. The computer would not open when I put my username in, so I went to Office Depot and asked them to look at it. I was told by a man name **** that the hardware did not have anything on it when he opened it up and it was definitely a hardware problem. As a matter a fact two people looked at it and said the same thing, I called the corporate office, and I was told by **** that I did not have a hardware problem it was a software problem, and I would have to more money for the software. I told him that I was told that it was not a software problem, but it was definitely a hardware problem. They refuse to fix it so that is why I am writing you to either get my money back, new computer with new warranty or replace it with new warranty.Business Response

Dear BBB:
Thank you for forwarding our customer complaint. We emailed the customer with a heartfelt apology and addition; ************************ manager spoke with ***************** today 4/13/2023 and explained the situation to her. We did take care of the customer by replacing the laptop with a new one without proof of an Allstate being purchased. The customer did purchase a bundle and we honored it based on that fact. She was confusing the warranty and bundle services as one thing. She explained the difference to her and offered to work with Allstate to get her coverage until June, but after explaining that she wouldn't be able to extend that and helping her gain a better understanding she agreed to come in this weekend and purchase a new bundle from us.

I have ordered two products from them on 02/13/2023 for the amount of $1521.43. I requested a return on 02/28/2023. The return was cancelled by the carrier which I then reached out to customer service and they had place a new return order on 03/06/2023. Again, the shipping carrier has yet to pick up the items during their timeframe. I reach out to customer service again on 03/09/2023 and they agreed to open another return order; however on 03/14/2023, it was cancelled......again. I just want this to be settled.Business Response

On August 29th 2022 we dropped off a package with a brand new galaxy z fold phone to be shipped via fed ex. I checked throughout the holiday weekend but it never showed any tracking. I called xfinity on the following Tuesday after the holiday weekend. They said sometimes the warehouse takes a couple days to show returned. I was told to try back in couple days. Still nothing was tracking so I called over to office depot and spoke with the store manager ******. ****** explained they did not show it being scanned into their system. I asked him to check the cameras for when we dropped it off. He immediately called me back and described my fiance and the time it was left to be shipped. ****** wrote me a letter on store letterhead to provide to fed ex to start a claim. I filled a claim with all my info and included the letter. Fed ex denied my claim stating the store had not listed on their manifest. I called ****** to see what my next step would be. He called me back with a claim number to call. It wasn't until the end of the call i realized he gave me the number to fed ex. I then called the regional manager for office depot **** at the store on South ******. He said he would call ****** and figure out how to process it through office depot ****** called me back approx a month after saying their hands are tied. Explaining that fed ex would not cover it either. I was charged for the entire cost of the phone. I am still charged monthly for the service I do not have on a phone I returned. I will be charged for breaking the contract with xfinity if I do not pay for the monthly amount plus insurance.Business Response

Dear BBB,
Thank you for forwarding our customers complaint. The store # *** had filed an internal claim and the customer will be contacted regarding the outcome of the claim with Office Depot. I'm afraid this was a drop off package and Office Depot wouldn't be the shipper in this matter or responsible for any claims being submitted to Fed Ex or Fed Ex claim decisions.Sincerely,

In June 2022 I bought a computer maintenance plan from the Office Depot at *********************************************** in ******************* **. When I tried to use it In January, I could not get service. I called and was told that my plan had not been activated although Office Depot charged my card in June. So, Office Depot didn't start my plan when paid for, didn't *************** when requested and will not refund my funds when I cancelled the service.Business Response

I am a longtime ********** resident. I was provided with three (3) Gift Cards for use at Office Depot, Office Max and ************* (now all part of Office Depot)). Today, I spent nearly two hours being shuffled from one Office Depot employee to another and another, etc., etc. No employee could tell me how to redeem my three gift cards (possibly more), which is required under ********** laws. I also went onto their websites and entered the codes in which I was told that there were no gift cards with those numbers. I called to the local store and was told that they could not help me. I called Office Depot corporate office and was transferred to ***************', who then transferred me to a wrong number! In 2009, Congress passed the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act, which set consumer protections for gift cards based on many state laws. The law provides that gift cards cannot expire within five years from the date they were activated and generally limits inactivity fee on gift cards except in certain circumstances, such as if there has been no transaction for at least 12 months. The federal law creates a floor for regulation and leaves room for state regulation on redeeming gift cards for cash and unclaimed property provisions.Federal Gift Card Law Thanks to the federal Credit CARD Act of 2009, gift certificates and store gift cards can't expire for five years. However, issuers can still charge an "inactivity fee" if the card has not been used within twelve months. (15 U.S.C. 1693l1).State Laws Again, some states have passed laws that regulate gift certificates and gift cards. In **********, for example, it's against the law for store gift certificates and gift cards to have an expiration date or dormancy fees (except under certain circumstances), and if the balance on the card is less than $10, you can redeem it for cash. (Cal. Civil Code 1749.5).How many other consumers of Office Depot are being pinched by OD?Business Response
