Check engine light came on. Ive had the car for a year and have kept up with oil changes etc. I brought my car to a Kia ********** who diagnosed it and said I needed a new engine due to a head gasket issue leaking oil into cylinders I believe they said. Kia ******* even call my warranty company because they said its not worth their time because warranty companys dont pay for these things. I went home and called wynns. I was sent a copy of my contract and the things covered. My issues were on there so I brought my car to a different mechanic the very next morning. Theyve now had my car for 4 weeks and wynns is just running them through the wringer wanting more and more to even send someone out to look. Was told last week wynns now wants the ENTIRE engine taken apart to again verify the issue. Was told by the shop that when they take it all apart if wynns decides to deny it I will now owe them almost $1500 in labor and my engine will be in pieces. I get that its an expensive fix but this is exactly why people buy extended warrantys. Ive now been without a car for a month loosing money left and right at work and am at risk of owing labor fees if wynns doesnt cover the repair. Its insane! Very frustrating situation. If they are requesting a tear down they should have to cover the labor even if they don't approve the claim! If they dont cover the repair im stuck with a car I still owe 9k on which includes the amount owed to wynns for this warranty and will have an engine in pieces and car undeliverable. Ive had other repairs fixed with the warranty with not one issue, not one adjuster, not one ounce of proof. But now that its an expensive fix now they want to run the shop around. Really praying for the best in this situation but am honestly not hopeful after this last month.

I bought the car in march of 2022 @ ***************** located at ************************************************************ Everything was great, I even took it on a trip to **************** in August 3, 2023 Got back August ***** and around middle of September I started hearing rough sounds coming from the car. October 2, 2023 I took it for the oil changed after I got ff work. Drove home and I got off the freeway and my engine light was blinking, as well as my oil light. I turned right onto southern from power road and I could not step on the gas anymore and my car completely died. I called my warranty company and they told me to take it into a reputable company with a business license to get it diagnosed. Then they wanted the reputable company that I chose to call them with the diagnosis and how much it was for the fix. I was still under warranty because it was 2 years ***** miles. ***** I bought the car, I only put ****** on it. October 12th I got it towed to the dealership to get it diagnosed. The dealership called me around October 18th telling me my warranty company denied the fix due to a recall on the car a few years ago (when I did not own the car) so they told the dealership that is why they will not fix my car. I did have an attorney send a demand letter to try and get a response, neither of us has heard anything back. I have contacted Wynns personally and have asked for a higher up and they have not gotten back to me.

I am rejecting this response because: I was sold a car with a recall on it, I had no knowledge of this recall and was sold the car as well as the warranty and the warranty company knew about this recall and never said anything to me so I paid an extra $1700 to get coverage for the car expecting it to be fixed if something happened. We tried to contact the warranty company about this issue and they completely refused to pay to fix the car. Again I had NO knowledge of this recall but they did and never said a word to me about it. They got an extra $1700 out of me for free.

On January 22, 2024 a customer came to our shop their engine had seized, we tried to roll it over by hand but couldn't, we then called Wynns to see what actions were needed. They informed us an inspector had to come and look at vehicle, the inspector came and took his pictures he needed and left. We heard nothing from warranty company about inspector findings until I called them back. Wynns informed me that inspector told them that we refused to put vehicle on lift for his inspection which is not true he didn't mention a lift being needed, Wynns then informed me that further tear down was needed to see why engine seized. We torn down engine to the point that we found the main bearing was scored as well as the crankshaft. We removed half of the main bearing and called them back they then told us we had to have another inspection done on vehicle before they could proceed any further with the claim again we waited for the inspector to come and inspect the vehicle. Heard nothing again from company until I called them to see what the inspector had found. Wynns proceeded to tell me the claim had been moved up to management and they had denied the claim and no further action could be done, I asked if I could get an explanation as to why and they refused, I then asked to talk to a manager and they refused , they also told me our shop had been removed from being a approved shop. I then called my customer and explained what they had said so they then called wynns and were told that it is impossible for a failed or scorned main bearing to seize a crankshaft and that the scoring had to be caused by "outside influence" basically saying our shop caused the damage somehow when the vehicle came in with a seized engine. The crank will now turn with the bearing removed, so yeah it will seized the crank. They now want us to tear down the engine more to figure out how the bearing got scorn, why, it still will need an engine? They want to find a reason not to cover the engine is why.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/25/2024

On January 25, 2024, ************************** initiated a claim on Mr. ******** behalf, with a complaint of Vehicle died out while driving and would not start. Wynns advised ************************** to obtain Mr. ******** authorization to diagnose the Vehicle to verify the cause of failure and full extent of damage. Following initial diagnosis, *************** stated that there were heavy metal shavings in the oil/filter and would call back with an estimate for repairs.

On February 06, 2024, ************************** called back to request an inspection of the vehicle to demonstrate the motor being seized and metal in the oil. Wynns reiterated the need to demonstrate to the independent inspector that the motor was seized, verify metal in the oil/filter, and demonstrate there were no leaks or impact damage under the Vehicle.

Unfortunately, *************** only showed that the engine would not rotate by hand. No oil sample was shown, the oil filter was discarded, and the vehicle was not hoisted on a lift to demonstrate there were no signs of leaks or impact damage. As such, Wynns informed ************************** that the cause of failure would need to be exposed to verify the reason for the seized motor.

On February 23, 2024, ************************** called back to inform Wynns they had taken apart the motor and had found a failure to the main bearing of the crankshaft which was causing the motor to not rotate. Wynns assigned an independent inspector again to verify the cause of failure and extent of damage to the vehicle.

Upon inspection, it was verified that the main bearing had been physically damaged with a metal object that did not occur naturally; this damage was intentionally done after the main bearing had been removed from the vehicle.  Wynns denied the claim because the damage shown to the Vehicle was not a mechanical failure and would not cause the motor to lock and stop rotating. Additionally, Wynns has placed ************************** on a relocation list meaning it will no longer allow any repairs to be performed under a Wynns service contract because *************** intentionally damaged the vehicle and attempted to submit that claim for coverage.

I am rejecting this response because:
The engine was seized when it was towed to our shop how would you explain that? This is an outrageous accusation. The inspector you sent was very rude and unprofessional to my tech when he aarrived. Not my shops fault you sent an inspector who didn't do his job and get an oil sample or the filter that we did still have and how exactly do you explain the crankshaft being scored in the exact same manner as the main bearing?  This is a outright lie that either the inspector told them or the company came up with. I will get my attorney involved for this outrageous lie you are trying to sell that we damaged it, what would we have to gain? Nothing that would only hurt our customer.

I was sold a 2013 Chrysler 300c from ************ in ******* ** on 1/18/2024, and was sold an extended warranty contract through Wynns Extended Care as well. Since before 2/14/2024 my car has been in the shop require a new engine to get it back on the road. The dealership my car is at called wynns and said that i needed a new engine they did a breakdown of the engine at my expense and it was determined by the mechanic the service advisor the management at the dealership and the inspector that was sent out TWICE that i needed a new engine. i dont know what happened from the time the inspector left to the time he got back to wynns but they determined that an engine replacement was not needed. So the dealership decided to do a parts replacement instead of the whole engine to try and get me back on the road but when they brought this breakdown to the warranty company they then come back with this complete ******** EXCUSE talking about the damages to my engine was overheating damage. Since i have owned this car it has NEVER overheated so any damage done due to overheat head to occur before i bought the car. SO now the dealership has decided to not deal with the company anymore because they are wishy washy and renig on everything. I have now been without a car for almost two months and im out 1000+ dollars having to get this car towed pay for breakdowns and ubers since the car i paid for cannot be fixed because of something I DID NOT CAUSE. This company is a complete f****** SCAM and are full of s*** they dont want to cover anything and give 1000+ reasons that are the most dumbest a** reasons ever to not replace or repair COVERED parts. This is my first time EVER having to deal with warranties and man this is gonna be the LAST time i deal with this company

My suv has been at the shop since January 4th. This company has been unprofessional, unhelpful and down right rude. We have asked to speak to a supervisor on several occupations and still have yet to speak with one. Under the terms of the Contract, all necessary diagnosis is required in order to determine if there is a covered breakdown and the extent of damage to the Vehicle.  In this instance, the only diagnosis performed confirmed that the Vehicle's timing chain was stretched.  However, no other damage was identified to the Vehicle.  ****** has advised that further diagnosis is necessary in order to determine the full extent of damage to the Vehicle and what can be covered under the Contract.  ****** has provided this information to the repair facility multiple times and is awaiting completed diagnosis of the Vehicle.

I purchased a Car Warranty with Phoenix American on April 15th 2022. My car broke down twice and it is currently in the auto repair shop. The first claim was in 2023 they denied my claim and I had to get a loan for ******* dollars to pay the auto repair shop, which was a financial burden. I had my car towed to the same shop which my head gaskets are blown which the mechanic said that it wasn't anything I've done they want the auto repair shop to break the car down which I would have to pay $1300.00 dollars out of pocket. the mechanic shop stated that that was a waist of time and said even if you all gave me $1300 dollars it would be a waist of time in addition that doesn't go on the repairs. I've done everything as the company has advised but yet they still make it impossible for them to repair your car. I am barley getting to work sometimes I have to take Ubers to get to work it has been almost 4 weeks and now the auto repair is asking to come get my car. Phoenix American has breached our contract twice and this has led me in a great financial burden. They want the impossible to avoid them from their obligations.

Upon purchasing my 2009 Dodge Avenger in **** I also purchased a warranty alone with my vehicle from Phoenix American Warranty located at *******************************************************. Nonetheless, 2 years later my transmission went off and I had to take it to two different ************************** repair shops and pay out of pocket to have my vehicle diagnostic conducted which they all told me was a transmission issue. However, Phoenix America which is currently my warranty company refused to cover the price for my vehicle to be repaired. I have been out of a vehicle for approximately one week now without any constructive dialog from Phoenix America to have my vehicle fixed.

Wynns Warranty refused to cover multiple damaged parts, and/or a replacement engine on my vehicle even though the mechanic sent photos and they had their own adjuster go to the shop to evaluate. I had two bent pushrods that caused damage to my camshaft and metal shavings within my engine. And because they conveniently could not find cause of failure, Wynns only said they would cover the bent pushrods. And since they were less than my deductible, I was responsible for the cost. I was forced to pay thousands of dollars to replace the camshaft, the bent pushrods, and a new battery since it had been in the shop for months while I was getting the runaround from Wynns and the shop. I paid over $3000 to get my truck back since I did not have the money for a full engine replacement. The shop also refused to warranty any of their work or parts because I was not doing the recommended engine replacement. Since picking up my my vehicle, the engine light has been on and my truck is still experiencing the same issues that were going on prior to me taking it to the shop. I am forced to continue to pay for a vehicle that I bought less than 12 months ago that is still having engine issues, and I paid for a warranty to ensure I would have coverage in case there were engine, transmission, or other mechanical issues. Due to Wynns not seeing the need to cover an engine replacement and the shop not giving me a warranty on the parts or work that they did, I am stuck in a position to have a vehicle that is in desperate need of repair.

I am rejecting this response because:

Your response clearly states "****** is obligated to pay for a "Covered Breakdown" when "a Covered Part has a Breakdown during the term of this contract."

You also state in your response that "****** would have approved the cost to replace the pushrods, but their repair of $206.55 was less than ******************** $250 deductible, so the claim was denied." That means the pushrod is considered a "Covered Part" and should therefore obligate ****** to pay for the breakdown. My cost should have only been for the deductible.

Furthermore, photos were submitted by the mechanic and an examination by the independent tech was done on the damaged camshaft, but ****** refused to pay for replacement stating it was not damaged. The camshaft was damaged due to the bent push rods which was a "covered part." ***** motor mounts are covered under my warranty which was also included on the invoice but was not done due to not being covered.

    Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:

Sincerely, I had to pay for the tear down also parts that the mechanic showed you guys what was damaged my warranty clearly says that anything with fluid going through the motor will be replaced they discovered multiple issues I even had to pay for the damaged camshaft so it would great to take responsibility I was without a vehicle for a while also if I had to only pay my deductible how did I end up paying over $3000

    ***********************

    Customer Answer

    Date: 01/09/2024

The cost of the covered repair including covered tear down exceeds the cost of my deductible. Per the invoice, I paid over $1200 for engine tear down alone. NOT including the replacement cost of the bent push rods, replacement cost of the cam shaft, and a new battery. All covered parts and tear down exceed my $250 deductible. Please reference the invoice for cost breakdown. Again, your own policy and letter states that the bent pushrods ARE considered a covered part therefore making the tear down a covered teardown. Even if the cost of the damage push rods is less than the deductible, the total cost far exceeds. My policy also states that anything in the motor that has fluid running through it, is covered. Multiple issues were found including a CLEARLY damaged camshaft that Wynns refused to pay for. I was without a car for MONTHS while having to deal with this issue. Wynns conveniently chose to only cover a part that was less than my deductible rather than cover the cost of the full repair. The difficulty in dealing with Wynns and getting them to cover anything is likely the reason why I couldnt find a reputable repair shop to fix my vehicle.

However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic.
