Date of transaction: 2/19/2025 Paid $288.98 Car rental for 8 days Was booked on Priceline Trip # ***-428-215-17 on 2/10/2025 for $129.84 Arrived at rental agency to pick up car and they told me the price would now be over $500. I explained that I already had a booking through Priceline and showed them my booking reservation. The employee refused to honor my Priceline booking and cancelled my reservation. He then told me the best he could do was $288.98. He said that he had only 50 cars and hundreds of people that would take the car if I didn't. He told me that I would not be able to get a rental at this price on such a short notice. The company used unethical business practices and implemented bait and switch forcing me to have no choice but, to pay the extra money so that I would have a car. Many people standing inline were very upset because they were being coerced into paying more for their rental, in the same manner as I was. Advantage's practices are unscrupulous and dishonorable. Can you please help assist me in having the difference in price returned to me. I also want to protect other consumers from being taken "Advantage" of.Initial Complaint

They are holding my $500 deposit in retaliation for 21 days because I asked them to release my deposit on time because I made a complain with my credit card company. I tried to escalate the complaint and they told me to call back and repeatedly sent me to voice mail. They lied to Priceline saying they are holding my money to see if I had tolls and I never used the toll roads.Initial Complaint

The online cost claimed to be $199 for the week, but once we returned the car they charged us $821. Yes, about $150 was Florida taxes, was not clear at the reservation. For 1 week at Advantage Rent-A-Car MCO, #MCO-179595 in Orlando, **. We waited 1 hour outside to receive it, and even then we found it in the lot on our own and took photos prior to anyone coming up to us to check us out. Due to our unfamiliarity with toll roads we accepted the additional fee of $79 for Toll Roads @ Counter. As we were talking with the agent about picking up 2 family passengers he commented the car he was giving us would not be big enough and so he talked us into an Upgrade Charge of $160. We did not accept the Roadside Assistance at $48 or the Partial Damage Waiver at $120 and the copy of the contract they emailed us at the end reflected that we did not initial to accept those items. It did reflect other items we declined. From the outset we felt like they were nickel and diming us and we had a bad feeling about this company. Also, all the other ridiculous extra fees added on i.e. charge for 2 hours late return even though we returned it 1 hour before the deadline at $53, the Privilege Fee Recovery Charge at $67.58 (to help cover their costs for airport location), Vehicle License Fee at $15.92 (to offset their licensing), ERF at $12 (to offset their office energy usage), Florida Surcharge at $16. What started out as a 1 week rental at $199.67 plus fees and taxes ended up at $821.53. When you call their number all you get is an answering service and we were not allowed to speak to the Location Manager, *****. We were told the only way to communicate with her was through email. The email address given is for internal use only and does not accept emails from outside the company, thus our emails were rejected. We travel and rent cars frequently and have never had so many fees applied or such bad customer service. This is the worst experience with a rental agency we have ever had.Business Response

I am writing to provide clarification regarding Mr. ******** rental agreement. Mr. ******* signed and initialed the rental agreement, and he was fully aware of the pricing details before leaving the counter. We also sent him a copy of the contract via email and text message. Additionally, he confirmed the charges before proceeding by inserting his credit card into the machine. The amount he would be charged was clearly stated, and he pressed the green button to accept.
As a gesture of customer service, we acknowledged his late return and refunded today $125.60. For your reference, I have attached the signed and initialed agreement, which includes Mr. ******** signature.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or require additional information.Initial Complaint

On January 31st I booked an SUV at Advantage via Priceline. It said it would cost $98.On Feb 16 I arrived at the Advantage rental counter in *********. They refused to accept proof of insurance via my credit card, and upcharged me for collision insurance. Additionally, the salesperson said she would "throw in" roadside assistance and "tire and windshield" insurance as a favor. This implied it was free, but she charged us for it. In the end, we were charged $280. I believe these are fraudulent charges.Business Response

Mr. ******** returned the rental vehicle on February 9th.Its now the 11th, and unfortunately, we havent had sufficient time to address his email.
The vehicle was returned in a condition that required detailed cleaning, which led to the cleaning fee being applied. The vehicle was clean when we rented it to him. Ive updated the supporting pictures and included a video from the return.
Please refer to the attached PDF and scroll to the bottom where youll find a link labeled "Click to View Video," which clearly shows the condition of the vehicle upon return.
We would have been happy to respond to Mr. ********* email and provide supporting proof.Initial Complaint

I have complete coverage on all my vehicles and my RV even though they are older vehicles I provided proof of insurance to the agent at the desk and because my truck, which only has ****** miles on it, is a 2006 model she said I COULDN"T have full coverage insurance to cover the rental!! . That alone gave your agent justification to accuse me of lying about having complete coverage and then charging me $138.31 for your insurance!? Then I found out after I paid for the car in full that you charge another $500 to my credit card that will be returned, that I find out at your desk and not before when o reserved the car.. I feel you're dishonest and not transparent. I want the insurance coverage charged to me refunded! $138.31 this is very bad company and has horrible customer relations.Business Response

I rented a car on 01/06/2025 for one day. Returned the car at 3Am on 01/07. This email is to formally dispute the $62 gas charge applied to my recent rental agreement.I rented the vehicle for one day and paid a total of $410.50, including $60.50 for the rental and a $350 deposit. Upon returning the vehicle, I received a refund of $288 from the deposit. However, I was subsequently charged an additional $62 for fuel.I believe this charge is unjustified. I received the vehicle with an empty fuel tank and returned it with the fuel level unchanged. This is evident from the minimal mileage I accrued during the rental period, which was less than 50 miles. It is physically impossible to consume a significant amount of fuel with such limited driving.I request that you review my rental agreement, including the mileage records, and compare them to the fuel level records of both the previous and my rental. This should clearly demonstrate that I did not use any fuel during the rental period.I kindly request a full refund of the $62 gas charge.Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.Business Response

Subject: ******************** Claim and Unscrupulous ************: Complaint of Rental Agreement #MCO-178455 I am writing to file a complaint regarding unethical/fraudulent practices from:Advantage Rent A Car. *********** Orlando Rentco LLC)****************************************************************************************** Pickup: Dec. 9, 2024 Return: Dec. 12, 2024 Travelocity Itinerary #************** Vehicle: 2024 ****** Altima Unit# FCRN305372 (VIN: *****************)I am a ********************* and **** Preferred member. This is my 1st rental with Advantage.******************** Claim for Damage: Advantage filed a claim for $1,778.13 against my insurance company for windshield damage. This claim is entirely fraudulent as the alleged damageapprox 1/2" star in the passenger's side of windshieldwas a pre-existing condition, evident at pickup on December 9, 2024.I have photographic proof of the star in the windshield taken on 12/09/24.Failure to Document Vehicle Condition:At pickup, despite my three "repeated verbal concerns re: condition issues/defects," including star-windshield damage. I am rejecting this response because:ConsumerMost Recent MessageDate Sent: 2/12/2025 3:07:19 PMSubject: Rebuttal to Advantage Rent A Cars Response Complaint ID #********
Dear Better Business Bureau,
I am writing to formally dispute the false response provided by Advantage Rent A Car/Orlando Rentco LLC regarding Complaint ID #********. Their claim that there was no chip and that we mark any cars that has damage with sticker is demonstrably false.Key Facts and Evidence:
I personally observed and photographed the chip in the windshield at pickup on December 9, 2024 (Photo attached)
The Advantage employee at the lot refused to document the damage, despite my multiple verbal requests.
Instead, she assured me the company wasnt concerned about the existing damage.Advantage filed a fraudulent claim for windshield damage ($1,778.13) on December 10two days before I even returned the car on December 12.
This alone proves that their claim is baseless and predatory.Their claim about marking damaged cars with stickers is irrelevant and misleading.
My vehicle had no such sticker at pickup, nor was I informed of any company policy requiring me to verify the presence of one.
If their own employee failed to mark pre-existing damage, that is a failure of their internal processnot my responsibility as a customer.Pattern of Fraudulent Practices:
Further research into customer reviews reveals that ********************** has a documented history of falsely claiming windshield damage from multiple renters. This is not an isolated incident but rather a clear pattern of deceptive business practices designed to extract fraudulent charges from unsuspecting customers.Requested Resolution:
I respectfully request that the BBB reject Advantages response as insufficient and misleading and take further action to hold them accountable for:
Filing a fraudulent insurance claim against me.
Refusing to document pre-existing damage despite my verbal requests.
Providing a false statement in response to my complaint.Advantage must immediately drop this baseless claim against my insurance. If they fail to do so, I will escalate this matter through additional legal channels and submit all my documented evidence to the **** (************************************).
I appreciate the BBBs attention to this matter and look forward to your response.
P.S. Its ironic that a company trying to defraud me of $1,778.13 cannot even put together a coherent sentence with proper capitalization or grammar in their official response!
Sincerely,
****** ****
