      Dear Better Business Bureau,
Cheeky Scientist refused to process my refund after receiving it in writing within 3 days of signing. In our sales call, they misrepresented the value of the company saying that they would provide personal feedback on my documents and that they had helped hundreds of PhDs get jobs.
On a follow up call, he said he would gladly refund my money if I wanted. That is what I had already asked for in writing. Then, he ignored that request and suggested that I wasn’t going to get hired without his help. I told him I had interviews lined up and he largely ignored any preparation for those important meetings.
When I asked for feedback on my resume they refused to provide review until I changed into their specific non industry standard format.
When I requested preparation for an important interview, I was told to improve my resume and LinkedIn.
When I asked an important question about taking a contract position, no one responded.
When I searched their network for the 100s of user researchers, there was about 30.
During calls, members of the team would shame people into rewriting their resumes into a format that was not being requested by recruiters.
I told the team multiple times that I was not finding any value from the meetings I attended and that their suggestions had not netted any results.
Overall, this company is high pressure, predatory, and uninformed about careers in UX.

HIGH PRESSURE SALES SCAM! I had a zoom call with them. High pressure. Suggesting $6,000, but if I sign today they will reduce by $1,000. If not next year it will go to $10,000. During the Zoom call, I searched online "Cheeky Scientist scam", and many articles came up, including this recent one from Science Magazine[https://www.science.org/content/article/criticism-builds-against-ph-d-careers-firm-cheeky-scientist]. Do not fall for this. Do NOT give money to them. Go to your university career center, and network with alumni and colleagues.

While their intentions are good, they prey on the fears of phd students and post docs.

THIS IS A SCAM THAT TAKES ADVANTAGE OF PH.D. GRADUATES AND CANDIDATES!!
PLEASE, PLEASE stay away from this company.
They re-write your resume in a way that makes absolutely no sense to employers.
In fact, I just received a very helpful and friendly rejection letter in which the HR Director told me "I think you have a great experience and background, but it is quite difficult to see in your resume for the hiring manager. My advice would be to sit down and have a look at your resume once again with a fresh pair of eyes, and see it from the hiring manager perspective. Focus on making sure that you get your narrative right and all the information on the page is essential and concise."
This company takes advantage of people who really don't know what employers are looking for. They are horrible. Please stay away from them.

I can see where this would be helpful for career long academics who are afraid of going into industry. Some people have found it to be very helpful. I did not. I do not feel like I was listened to. The reviews on this are very mixed-look at reddit. Initially, they were very fast to assign a mentor- I had a mentor the day I signed up and a call with Isaiah and other attendees. It seemed promising and my initial fears that this was a scam were alleviated after my first call. That was short lived.
There is a high pressure sales-rush aspect to this. They don't want you to read the contract or take time to talk to others about it. It's a now or never, you'll lose your spot. To pay for this, they have a deal with Affirm, and you're taking out a loan. I do feel like the pitch is fear based- I was told that there are third party softwares that share your resume and rank it, and that the lower it goes, the harder it will be for you to have a job. My friends in job recruiting told me that this is absolutely not true- you may be ranked per job, but it's not ubiquitous. I feel like it lowers your confidence and that they create a situation where you need their help or you won't get a job. It preys on imposter syndrome. Each week you fill out a progress form. Based on my responses, someone should have contacted me. If you disengage with services, no one is trying to reconnect with you to see how they can help. They already have your money.
When I decided that staying in higher ed was best for me, my mentor argued with me. There is such a push for tech and government and non-profit jobs are downplayed.
I got the job I have on my own- I applied for it before I enlisted their services. I did not hear from my mentor for 3 weeks, so we did not do any of the services that we were supposed to-mock interview, salary negotiations, etc. Now I am stuck paying pack the $3500 affirm loan. There are no refunds. I definitely did not get $3500 worth of services. Big mistake on my end.

Ghost job posters on LinkedIn were challenging. This cost, I believe, almost half of my time because I had to double-check that the postings were not already hired positions. The program showed me how to get inside the thinking of the Recruiters and Hiring managers, which helped me know what they wanted. I am really grateful to CSA and hope to contribute to the team.

With the program, one of the things that helped me the most was understanding how conversations around salary should be handled. Also, a lot of the things the program recommended for interviews, I used it when I had informal conversations with HR or my managers and it helped.

I have a great experience with the Cheeky Scientists group. I have found the group highly organized. Resources are well-designed with a very systematic progression of skills and immensely helpful for my job hunting process, getting interview invitations and finally securing jobs.
Alongside the resources, this group provides mentorship facilities which I have found very useful. I was fortunate to closely work with some of these mentors who are truly knowledgeable, experienced, and very specific in directions. I am thankful to all of them, particularly Meera, for taking in all information and treating me so well. I am glad that I was able to find this group at right time of my job search.

This was the worst academic purchase I’ve made. The organization is a bunch of scamsters. You pay a significant amount to join and within a short period of time you’re slapped with additional fees if you need to access more content. And in less than a year I lost access to anything I had even after the initial sign up. Definitely do not recommend signing up for the organization. Your money is better spent on LinkedIn premium which is far more reputable and helpful with job searches and transitions!

Like many others who have left negative reviews, I too feel like I was robbed by Cheeky Scientist. As a US Army Veteran, I already possess a wealth of skills and knowledge that should be wanted in the civilian sector. However, the current economic climate has made finding work quite difficult. As such I beseeched the help of Cheeky Scientist to assist in my job hunt. What I did not realize, and they did not verify before charging me a large sum of money, is that I needed to possess a PhD. I did, and still do not have anything higher than a Masters degree. Even worse, when I tried to cancel my plan with them, I still had to pay off the loan I signed to get to have their program. If I could go back in time, I would NEVER have signed with Cheeky Scientist, but I did, and am still paying off the debt from that.

Thank you for your review ******* Cheeky Scientist has helped many members who have not finished their PhDs to get into the industries of their choice. We are proud of the service that we provide all degree holders. I was able to see that you met with a mentor multiple times to move forward your job search. You did utilize the service for months. We do hope that you are able to move forward in your career.
