In May of 2022, we were very impressed with the knowledge and information about the savings of solar panels. Meraki promises no out of pocket fees which, for us, was not true. When they installed the Nest, our AC would not shut off, it ran 24/7. We were leaving it on so the Nest could "learn" our schedule. Then on the last day, it was running the heat. We are senior citizens, a disabled Vietnam Veteran with many health challenges caused by Agent Orange and this month was very stressful for us. We had to pay $131. to a technician to come and replace the Nest with our original one. He informed us that he is doing this on many of his calls. Our electric bill was $127. more than the previous month. Meraki refused to deduct the price of the Nest or reimburse us.
We were waiting to have three trees removed. During this time, we were increasingly concerned about their lack of accountability regarding the Nest. We were also not able to adjust the Nest with our phone, as we were told. We tried several times following the instructions but it would not work from the phone.
During this time my husband became increasing ill from the effects of Agent Orange and we were dealing with insurance, doctor visits, etc..., so we put it on hold. We also wanted to confirm with our homeowner's insurance that we could still be insured. We have heard that insurance rates are rising as much as $2000 a year, adding approximately $200 a month to mortgage payments. Very few insurance companies will insure homes with solar panels and you pay more. We have heard that our insurance company is leaving our state so we will have to find another company for renewal.
We were never told about cancellation fees. Now they are cancelling our contract and charging us approximately $3000 in fees over and above the tree removal and Aeroseal. We feel we should not have to pay for the defective Nest.
We will pay the $57000 tree removal and Aeroseal if they will agree and not charge us the fees.

We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention and providing your feedback. We understand that you've had some issues regarding your Nest thermostat not being compatible with your at home HVAC system. We have sent a check in the amount of $130.00 to you for reimbursement for having a third party contractor uninstall the faulty Nest and reinstall your original thermostat.

To better resolve your concerns regarding your project cancellation, we have also adjusted the incurred fees to only include the completed tree work and Aeroseal. The Nest thermostat has been removed from this cost. The balance remaining is $5,200.00. We have sent the newly updated invoice to you via email and have also attached it here for your reference.

We sincerely apologize that you have had a negative experience, but we hope we were able to rectify your concerns. Please reach out to us if you have any further questions or concerns as our Teams are happy to assist.

Meraki sales people continue to come to my house to "provide information" despite my repeated requests that they cease. They ignore my "no solicitors" notice immediately above my doorbell, and argue that they are not soliciting. While I haven't tracked the number or dates of their visits, It seems that the frequency of their visits is increasing and is beginning to feel like harrassement.

Please advise that this customer who submitted this complaint is not on record as a customer affiliated with Meraki. It is possible that our Reps have canvassed this neighborhood and different representatives went to his home in particular, however he is not in our system as a lead generated or signed customer. What I can do is reach out to the office located closest to his home and inform the 1099 contractors that this customer's address should not be canvassed.

Please let me know if you need further assistance in this matter.

      Best,

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. As part of our business model, Meraki's door-to-door sales eliminate our customer's need to go physically to a site to get personalized solar information. We completely understand that this model is not everyone's preferred method for receiving information, though, and appreciate you connecting to provide your feedback. We have alerted the sales office closest to your residential area to ensure our Reps are considerate and taking No Solicitation signs into account when they are out canvassing an area.

On 27 June 2022 my mother in law (Mary *********) was talked into a contract to install a new roof and solar panels on her 1150 sq foot permanent mobile home unit at cost of $61000.00. The sales individual was asked to wait until my husband arrived later that week. My MIL was instructed that the contract needed to be signed as time was of the essence. Mary is on border of legally deaf and struggles to understand 'regular' conversation. She is 87 years old and relies on good nature of individuals. Verbally she was told that she could likely get one of her adult children on her mortgage or title so they could take advantage of the tax credit.

We requested several times for additional information within the cancel period but we never received any response until AFTER the cancel terms expired. The contract was requested several times and finally shared over in August. Also on 13 August 2022 a call was finally connected (much back and forth with voicemails) from the sales person telling us that a part of the insultation that they recommended was not doable BUT for an upcharge of an additional $1500 - $1700 they had an alternate solution. At that time the ask was made again by my husband about the tax credit and she then said "you need to find an accountant" and back pedaled on the information she provided to my MIL.

At this time, we are seeking to cancel this contract without penalty as she was misled on details and fake statements of savings that will not come to fruition for her. She was told she would have no bill except the finance. She was told there would be an IMMEDIATE return on her investment, then based but on the phone with my husband, sister in law and myself on 13 August she confirmed it would take 7 years to break even. This contract should not have been pushed on Mary ********* by this sales person. Clearly this is an age discriminatory practice by this business.
