      Applied for a new home and was expecting to use my 401K. Sent in all paperwork. I have fax and email confirmation that they received 80+ pages. They stated they needed more information. Fair - sent in more. Then claimed yet again it maybe in an email they cannot see - try back in 3 days. Called back. Received. 2 days later, needed more documentation. Closing date approaching. Called again. They have everything. Unable to get everything done before closing. Tried to move closing date and would have lost the house. Used every ***** to put towards closing. Made us lose the house. Today, another email they are missing more information that had already been sent. Worst customer service, no follow though and they never paid out requested funds. Need to move out of Principal Financial as I do not believe they have the funding to accommodate a withdrawal.

      Contrary to the manner in which Principal presents their services, the process of rolling over a 401k was lengthy, unclear and required my continued follow up due to misinformation provided by the company. At the very least, one must wonder what services are meant to be provided when charged an administration fee. Based on my recent experience, I would not recommend using Principal to manage retirement savings to friends or colleagues.

      I agree with the "would give 0 stars if possible"- If you have a 401k through them, take all of your money an run! That is... if they'll even let you access your own money. You see, to Principal; the company you work for is their client, not you- the person who's money it is, the company. Which means that if your company gives information to principal that is incorrect, they won't work with you to verify your identity, even with a SSN- which means that the people responsible for YOUR MONEY won't give it to you unless an unconcerned 3rd party does everything correctly. Furthermore, when you call their customer service, you will have another adult tell you that your information is wrong and call you a scam artist for trying to get YOUR MONEY. Absolutely appalling, this company shouldn't be allowed to handle a sack of pennies for **** *****. Absolutely disgraceful customer service, lunatic procedures, all hidden behind the guise of a company "to help you plan for the future"- positively disgusting.

      Tore my *** and was put out of work for 3 months. I paid into my *********** for 2 years before trying to make a claim for my knee. Whole process has been like pulling teeth. First, they try and say that my medical provider number isn't in service even though I can call them myself with no problems. Second, they stopped my STD payments because of "missing" medical documentation that I had already sent to their email they just never checked. The employees seem lazy and lack the motivation to help their clients.

      My statements were not showing my monthly payments and every month kept making my outstanding balance larger and larger. My bank showed all of the transactions that had been paid to Principal.After talking to **** and exchanging numerous emails, Principle still did not resolve my issue.After paying in for over 3 years I had had enough and cancelled the policy basically losing all that money since it was a term policy.Unprofessional doesn't even begin to describe this entity. They have a glitch in their system but are too busy to look into it.I have over 2 years of statements to prove it.I really should just sue this money grabbing conglomarate!!

      I would give them zero stars if I could. Our house and cars were destroyed in a storm. We needed to take out a hardship to help with the deductible on our home. After sending every single document there is. Still nothing!!! They offered me $149.31.Of my own money!! The absolute worst experience with any investor Ive ever experienced. Do not put your money with them unless you never need access to it!!

      Wish I could give them a 1 or better yet a minus 1. They turned a simple RMD with additional funds into closing my **** depositing the bulk of my money into my checking account and not being able to tell me where the rest went. They also are doing a CYA by using the must do research to find the problem, at this point closing in on 6 hours and no information. And no RMD money. When I have talked to someone they keep wanting to blame me for their error. No sense of urgency on their part.

      I was out of work for nearly 3 months due to an accident out of work. I coach my sons baseball team and was injured during a practice was hit by a baseball right in the eye and was put out of work for 3 months. during those months that i did not work bills kept piling up my vehicle got repossessed. So i turned to my financial team to help during this difficult time. so i applied for a hardship to help get back on my feet. So they told me what was the next steps to guide me for the hardship program. This was on may 7th two weeks later i have not heard from them at all so i called them and they said to send in documents to analyze my hardship. So I sent them the documents they required they told me that the dates from bills can not exceed 2 months from the date I applied for the hardship. Keep in mind it took them a month that i had to reach out to them. I called a week afterwards to see if they received my documents they said no so i resubmitted them and they said it takes it takes a day or two to receive but there is no way for the people you are talking to can check because they work from home and the documents go to a specific fax #. I was being patient with them during this process. So now it has been nearly two months from initial date still nothing I am the one reaching out to follow up because these thieves do not seem to care what difficult times I am going through. So I asked to speak to a supervisor which they have to send an email i had to wait another for two days since it was a Friday to hear back from them. I was told that the hardship was denied due to the fact that it was not enough evidence to conclude my hardship which my evidence were hospital bills and they needed the bills to be specific to what they were for and some of them were out of the date which now was over the **** of the initial hardship was done. They take out nearly 300 every paycheck so I had to change it to a fat 0. The BBB needs to investigate these thieves.

      My experience with Principal Financial has been very disappointing; their service has been the worst I've ever encountered.
