I have been trying to roll over my Athene 403b from a previous employer for two years!! My financial advisor in ******* went through the full process as dictated by Athene only to have the request denied, claiming that there was missing documentation. I moved from GA to ** and am once again trying to roll over my funds to my new employer's 401k, only to once again be told that they can't help me, despite my telling them exactly what Fidelity told me to say.This company acts like it's their money instead of mine. I'm fed up and just want out. This is beyond ridiculous.Athene USA

This company is a joke when it comes to filing a life insurance claim! It has been over 4 months. The policies for my dad took 3 months. First they couldn't find the policies because the numbers were from a different company. But they couldn't give me the numbers to file the claim because they didn't know who I was and needed to send in the paperwork...that I couldn't send in without the policy numbers. They kept needing more and more paperwork because it kept getting lost. At least once, they didn't even request everything they needed and said I should know that I needed to submit it. Like I deal in death claims on a daily basis? Thankfully, no. Now they need more and more on my mom's policy because it keeps getting lost. Can they pick up a phone or email saying they need something or to verify anything...NOPE. I called about a week after the most recent letter was sent but I didn't have it (Still haven't gotten it) and they told me it was in process. Why not at that time say..."you're missing XYZ item". Which would have been a joke because they literally have received everything except a sample of my parents cremains to prove they're dead. When I call and they can't talk to me because they can't verify who I am without the paperwork that they keep losing. I am about to get a lawyer involved it is so ridiculous. These are policies they bought/inherited from several different companies. They are almost 50 year old policies. They don't deserve to hang on to the money any longer! If there was a negative star rating, I'd give it. Their organization and customer service is seriously lacking. DO NOT recommend doing business with them.Athene USA

I concur with the gentleman about Athene customer services it's by far the worse service that I have ever experience. I can't believe **** transferred our pensions over from Fidelty to this terrible company, totally ****** off I can't even access my account that I initially registered and set-up properly a month ago. Receiving "authentication error" when trying to login (never heard of this company either so far horrible service - and the fact it was sprung on us like cheap dirt). Tried to get a password reset from customer service was told they can't reset my password WTF. I tried to do the forgot username/password function since 8/21, still waiting for it to come to my email address (even switch browser - still receiving authentication error message). The fact that I asked CS to speak to a supervisor or level 2 or 3 tech support I was blown off with I'll have someone call you back in 24 hours. Faked like they were opening a case (no case number provided) **** what kind of company you entrust out pensions too. LET'S CALL IT LIKE IS YOUR WEBSITE IS ***** AND NOT WORKING PROPERLY FOR THIS CONVERSION. Your responding saying below to email you, what **** customer service email address. I need to access my account today. Long wait times, CS can't help you it is pathetic. I shall file a formal complaint with **** today if this situation is not corrected ASAP.Athene USA

What a terrible experience to date. My wife and I have 4 annuities that we have been trying to get paid out accurately. Only 1 was correctly executed the first time. What should have taken "**** days" has now taken 2 months and we're still not finished. Issues have been:- The company requests that sensitive personal information be emailed to them with no encryption or security. They state that they can receive encrypted emails but they cannot. - When documents are sent there is no confirmation of receipt. We had to call every time to confirm. When we did, customer service agents appeared unable to confirm where the documents were in their process.- Two of the annuities were denied due to age which was an error. They were unable to explain why and it took weeks to resolve. - We provided specific instructions on the payout method and tax withholding and every one was done incorrectly requiring multiple call-backs.- Each time we called back it was almost like starting over. **************** agents appeared unwilling or unable to look up our account history.- Of the multiple agents we spoke to, only 2 were able to make progress and one gentleman, *****, did a great job resolving one of the issues and followed up.- During calls spreadsheets were referred to as the source for our income distribution which I find frightening and the opportunity for error or fraud is significant. We're going to watch our disbursements continually since we have such little faith in the company. Will we be paid what's been promised with our investment? We can only hope.Athene USA

So far very bad … never wanted to be a client of Athene (honestly had never heard of Athene), but unfortunately AT&T replaced Fidelity with Athene for pension management. Can’t say enough bad things about Athene (poor website, no App, inaccurate account data, poor telephone call system, poor telephone call staff, etc. truly an awful experience. Just how bad? The “contact is” function (after logging into the account on their website) doesn’t work. When calling you are prompted for all kinds of information to validate your identity and then that information is thrown away and you have to provide it all again to the agent (because it didn’t “populate” on their screen.) The wait delay warning “due to high call volume” is wildly inaccurate.Athene USA

1 starI wish I could give Athene negative 10 stars! I can't say enough BAD things about this company - SERIOUSLY RUN!
Truly the biggest financial mistake of my life!
Just recently, I made 7 phone calls about an issue. The numbers on the website did not match the numbers I was given by the rep. I got 7 DIFFERENT answers about the same investment accounts, and the total charges to surrender my investment just kept going UP! I enter into a conversation with one rep. and then have to start all over again with the next representative in the que when I'd call back.
One rep. got agravated with me when I told him I was calling to surrender my account, and he actually YELLED at me, saying "Well if you're hell bent on doing this, then go ahead".
The guy who sold me the policy literally stopped calling me back after he got his outrageous $35,000 commission (I'm told) for convincing me to invest with Athene. He has actually made more money on my money then I have, when you consider all the fees!
Don't get dooped by the BONUS. Do the math, and you'll see that the FEES outrun the bonus afterr about year 5, at least they have with my 4 investments. Again, I cannot say enough BAD things about this company. Seriously RUN!!!

5 starsI have had nothing but great experience with Athene. Now, I have not had to call the 800 number because my agent with Athene has a great office staff who assists me directly with all my needs. If you are not dealing with an agent who can act on your behalf, find one. It will make all the difference. My planner who is my agent has helped me tremendously place my assets for protection in the right place; and Athene is a nice part of that.Review fromDAVID A

1 starI deeply regret purchasing insurance from ATHENE (AVIVA) LIFE AND ANNUITY COMPANY for my wife several decades ago. We've been on long term assignment overseas. For more than 30 years I've been making on time payments via autopay. Unfortunately, we cannot receive mail in our overseas location. The cost of the insurance went up and unknown to us our payment did not cover the cost of the policy and it lapst / cancelled. I requested many times during the years to receive the "mail" via email but for whatever reason did not receive it. We're both extremely disappointment and upset that now when my wife needs the coverage more than ever she has none. I acknowledge that i should have stayed on top of it better, but it was extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to do from our overseas residence. I regret ever been associated with Athene. We got "sold" a bill of good in my opinion years ago that I never fully understood.Review fromJoseph P

1 starI wish there is something less than 1 star in this review but they are very fortunate there is 1 star because they don't deserve it. This is a terrible company not worth existing on this earth. It should fold up like Enron immediately. I requested withdrawal 03/09/23, and when nothing happened, I called them and they said "It takes 6-8 business days" for electronic fund transfer to my bank account. I chose electronic because I thought that would be faster. At the end of 8 business days I didn't see the money so I called again. This time around they said "It actually takes 8-10 business days." At the end of 10 business days I called and the lady at the other end was very dismissive and frankly annoying. She told me "O we are waiting for a verbal approval" I said are you kidding me? It will take you about 15 days to let me know you need verbal approval? Anyway, I have no option because I am at their mercy so I gave the verbal approval. She told me it will take 1-2 business days to get the money. After 2 days, I called last Friday and they said again it will take 1-2 business days to get the money. Now that I know them, I have called everyday from Friday till today, Wednesday and all I get everyday is "it will take 1-2 business days to get the money" At this point, after close to 30 days, I am completely at a loss what to do because everyday I call they say we have expedited your request and it will take 1-2 business days to get the money. My advice to anyone reading this review is NEVER, NEVER put your money with the blackhole called Athene Annuity. Repeat NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.
