I made an appointment at BioLife Plasma in ********, ******* for 6/15/2025 at 10:45am. This would have been my first time donating. I knew that at this appointment, there would be a physical prior to donating, so it would take some time. Completely understandable. Mind you, I had a choice between completing my first plasma donation or attending a class for my personal enrichment - needless to say, I chose to donate. The process from start up until I was put in line to donate was 8/10, I didnt really have any issues. When a chair finally opened for me occupy for the donation, it was around 12:39pm. This is when my issue started. I was approached by a phlebotomist named *** who asked me if it was my first time. I told him that it was and he proceeded to wrap a cuff around my left arm. The cuff was inflatedit didnt feel like it was around tight enough, but I let him do his job. He started palpating inside my elbow for veins while I balled my fist. I didnt notice any distention, but he gestured that he wasnt really able to locate anything. Then he went and did the same thing to my right arm and finally said Yeah, Im going to say its a no. Poorly explained TO A FIRST TIME DONOR the process of blood return, and why him kind of feeling a vein in one arm and nothing in the other was a problem. He said Your physical is good for 5 days, maybe you can work out your arms and come back, but Im going to say no today, sorry. I was slightly embarrassed, but more so extremely upset at all of my time wasted. Embarrassed because what made me so different than everybody else? I didnt cause a scene, I left the building, but I returned a few minutes later and I asked for a second opinion which wasnt honored. I dont know who **** is, but he was no help. I tried to explain that it just didnt make sense for him to suggest I come back in a few days as if anatomically, Id be a better candidate. I dont know, this was an awful experience and a waste of my time!Initial Complaint

I had my physical yesterday and I was accused of having new piercings and tattoos and I've been a donor for 3 years they know me by name they're very friendly and helpful. Ever since I started I've never had issues with my physical I've always passed everything and everything was noted in my chart as of yesterday I was told that I could no longer donate and I was deferred forever but the nurse that did my physical last year didn't put that in my chart my tattoos and piercings are old. I'm being accused of having new piercings and tattoos and this is not true at all so I feel like I am being discriminated and I want this resolved and reverse so I could continue to donate and if this can be fixed that would be great and I would like to transfer to another location. I'm being discriminated for having tattoos and piercings and this isn't right and her name that did my physical screening is **** she works at the **************************************** in ************ **** *****. I left crying I don't deserve this I wanna come back but go to another location.Business Response

Issue began around June 3rd. As we all as scheduled time to be here. We take time out of our day to fulfilled an obligation and the customer is being taken advantage of. We come at our schedule times and are waiting for service for over 2 hours! Some people including myself have waited longer and take over an hour to complete the actual donation. That added up to 5 hours away from the things that need to be done on our off days from work or school or whatever. For most of us, this is how we supplement income or put food on the table or gas in our vehicles. This is becoming a problem and staff and management are shrugging their shoulders and asking us what we want them to do about it? Fix it!! They customers should not be paying the price for mis-management. We are the one being stuck, because we have what you need.Business Response

Ive donated 35times the last time I donated they said Ive been randomly selected to take my blood and test it so I needed a nurse approve I was done for over an hour w/ my donation and the part of the strap that goes around my arm was itching and I took it off to scratch it (not knowing it was a problem) the man helping me told me not to do it and I said sorry and stopped they said I couldnt donate again until my results came back which could be a could of weeks but they wouldnt tell me unless something is wrong some time goes by and I was calling up there and not being able to get through and left unreturned voicemails on the app I got a notification on the app instead of just letting me know and warning me as he told me he wasnt and that it was an issues and I could be deferred when I called they said I was messing with the machine when I never once touched the machine now I cant donate when Im a disabled mother who uses this extra money to help us throughout the month said it was a permanent thing the manager said he wasnt there and didnt know about it so he didnt know he was just reading the notes. I never been a problem or did anything wrong. They could have just let me know and said I could be deferred if it happened again like he said he was doing after I apologized so now Im wondering why Im kicked out for something I didnt even do Ive never given them a problem and I dont see why I dont get to speak up for myself and talk about what may have or havent happened when its on camera I was done w/ the donation and my arm was itching like I dont get why I cant donate anymore its crazy I was there basically 2xs a weeks for months on end the man said he was warning me how did it go from a warning to being deferred for something I didnt do they switch ppl had me sitting for over an hour b4 and after while servicing other ppl that came after me they came and left yet I was told it was order of first come first serve but since he knew them its okBusiness Response

I donated plasma three times at BioLife Plasma in *************. While the staff were polite and hardworking, the facility has serious communication issues. There is no way to reach the site by phone. The front desk phones show 99+ missed calls and over 50 voicemails. I tried contacting the facility multiple times via phone, app, and website, but never got a response. Before my first visit, I was required to provide a dermatologists note due to a past skin cancer. I submitted the note and was told Id be notified when cleared. That notice never came, yet I kept receiving automated messages urging me to schedule. I finally did and drove 40 minutes, only to be told I wasn't cleared.Eventually, I was allowed to donate. After my third donation, I was deferred due to low protein. I was told Id be notified when I could donate againbut that didnt happen. Despite this, I kept getting messages to schedule. I made three more trips, each 40 minutes, only to be told I needed another blood test. On the fourth trip, I was told I was now banned for one year. The money I earned was mostly spent on gas for these wasted trips. A nurse tried to reimburse me with two $20 payments for fuel, but I was told I could only collect them if I donated againwhich I now cannot do.Staff admitted they regularly receive complaints about poor communication and inaccurate scheduling messages. This is unacceptable.I am requesting reimbursement for the time and travel related to the five wasted trips, and that BioLife address its ongoing communication failures and inaccurate donor notifications.Initial Complaint

Around January of 2025, BioLife had told me that I was not allowed to donate plasma anymore because they said I smelled bad. Despite several checks from others, the staff insisted I smelled and needed to leave. I don't know if it is because I'm Haitian, but they should not be treating people this way.Initial Complaint
