I won a contest for $250 @ Home Chef then when I got the email they told me I had 2 weeks to use. I picked out about $120 worth of meals and went to check out wouldn't let me without putting in a credit card. I didn't want to do that when I had a balance of $120. Got in touch with them she said you don't have to just refresh the page. That didn't work so emailed them again 3 more times no answer at all. What a scam. The 2 weeks are up on the end of June. So I guess when you win a contest from them really all they want to do is have your credit card in so they can keep sending meals you don't want. I wasn't even going to use the $250 with the time I had to use it. I won this on the Pictionary game show, they should be ashamed to even be part of Home Chef!! This is one of the emails I sent them. I have been trying to use it but cant checkout without putting a credit card in why would I do that when I have a $250 credit they said try this I did it didnt work and thats the last I heard from you guys. I sent 2 other emails and never heard anything back. This is just another scam to get people to sign up and keep them paying weekly. All I wanted was the $250 I won worth of then you tell me you only have 2 weeks to use it. I guess I am just going to contact the BBB and tell them all about this scam. Multiple problems Week 1- actually no problems Week 2- missing free dessert Week 3- missing Panko breadcrumbs for Panko crusted chicken recipe AND Week3- received potato gnocchi instead of cheese tortellini for cheese tortellini recipe Week. 5- received another rotten potato AND Week5- received apple cider vinegar ( which Im allergic to ) instead of the sweeter rice vinegar. I randomly had a box shipped to me and I checked my credit card statement and I was charged almost $90. I DID NOT create an account nor did I authorize my credit card for this charge. I did have an account with them a few years ago but cancelled that way back. Now I have random boxes and charges on my card after I cancel? When i contacted support they were very unhelpful and would not offer a full refund. The support agent didn't even really acknowledge my complaint, said there was a typo in the email for the account creation, "escalated" my case and then said there is no typo and this is a user error. I have the full support transcript but I goes iver the charecter limit. Very scammy company with very poor customer support.Home Chef

If you sign up to look around and give them your credit card they're going to charge you. You can cancel in on the website, you can delete your cart they are still going to charge you and send it to you unless you call them. Without click to cancel this is a scam . I understand if you log in and look around that you won't choose their service so they don't want you to cancel even if you tried to do it immediately.Home Chef

1 starI have been using Tempo a Division of Home Chef for the past few months. Rocky start better, unit 3 weeks ago. The order was delivered very late, But is seemed to get a bit they told me if it was cool to the touch it was ok, well we got food poisoning! No food for the week. The next week I kept watching for the delivery and it got stuck in Georgia, and then they said it was cancelled as the box was destroyed! , They did credit my account after a lengthy discussion on chat (waste of time) and customer service. This week...yesterday, the food was delivered within the time frame, It's been extremely hot here in south east NC, 100 weds, high 90's yesterday. I unpacked the food, no ice left, it was warm so I got out my thermometer and it was between 67 and 78.5 degrees! Of course, the company was closed! So I emailed and asked for a call back. No Call, We had a discussion last week, that the warehouse manager would talk with Fedex and get this straightened out...Their truck are not refridgerated. So now 3 weeks without food. And takes up to 10 days to get the credit back on my CC, these were charges avg. $140.00 per week.
I don't have that kind of income to go spend that money and wait for a refund. And where is the consideration for my time, money, gas to go shopping, and take out delivery is way expensive. I got this service to help me manage my food and spending for the week. I Called today, Got a lovely women, Stacy, I asked for consideration for my time and the 3 weeks of no meals...they offered me a $10 credit on my account for Tempo for a future delivery. That's an insult. This was their fault! How do you deliver food at the temperatures it is across the country with a non-refrigerated service? I told her it was not acceptable, it was an insult. It cost me more in gas to go shopping. They came back with a better offer $15, for 3 weeks of no food!!! I think this goes to unsafe food practices and I am filing a complaint for an investigation.Review fromIrene R

I ordered the oven ready meals. What a disappointment. Everything in a plastic bag, no instructions as how to cook them. Do not order these. Everything looks old and wilted. Its easier to get frozen meals in the stores.Such. Scam!!!!Home Chef

They are scammy and slimy. When you cancel the subscription you have to also cancel the box. Its a cash grab. **************** said you can see recipes without actually signing up but I couldn't. I am technology savvy too. I am vegetarian and now have a bunch of meat coming to my house. If I cancel the service it should cancel every!Home Chef

SCAM !!! SCAM!!! SCAM!!! Business model is a scam because they make you provide credit card (cc) info to view the menu. I ignored this red flag. Then they charge you for a week's worth of meals under the guise that you signed up for a subscription (look for very tiny print) when you provided the info. I even paused my account so I wouldn't be charged but they charged anyway. There is no way to cancel the account or cc info without calling customer service. God and them only know how many people they rip off this way.Home Chef

I am so shocked by all these reviews say. This has NOT been my experience. HomeChef has been a great experience. Every order has been on time, complete, and in excellent condition. The ingredients are best quality. I have received exactly one lemon that wasn't usable. This is out of 15 meal kits. I find the website and app both very user-friendly. I love the interface that allows you to view and edit the orders, and even skip weeks or pause the subscription. Yes, you have to pay attention; I have accidentally not skipped a week before the deadline, and yep, was charged and got the shipment. Go figure; it's almost like they have a subscription service with a required deadline because they're shipping fresh food.I like their referral program; I only wish you got credits for more than just the first order they place. I convinced my mom to try it out and as soon as her first order was confirmed, I got an email and the credit was in my HomeChef account for the next week. A family emergency took my mother away from home that exact same week, so I contacted customer service. Explaining the situation and that the food would be used by another individual in need, I still inquired if there was any way to give my mom some credit on her order. **************** responded within hours that they were crediting my mom's whole first order for her and that she could use it for her next order. And they didn't revoke my credit for her referral, even though it had been refunded to her. I am sorry to hear that so many people have had bad experiences with this company. All I can say is that my experience has been 100% positive. I refer as many people as I can to try this service. My one "complaint" is that I do not know that we can afford full-time home Chef service on our budget. Not to say that their service is not worth it, it is! It is worth every dollar. Unfortunately, our grocery budget just doesn't always allow for it.Home Chef

It could have been worse but not much. Very bad overall experience. I agree with others. You can NOT cancel I have tried and tried All they will do is "pause" which means you have to put a block on any transactions with them through your payment source I guess. Still working on it. I went into review (because of repeated offers) their set up and menus. I did a sign up because I thought I had to to review the menus Still confused on that. I was given no opportunity to choose anything. First thing I know when looking at ****** I realize they had charged me and on digging realized a box was on the way I got a set of four meals (their plan is set up to be delivered ocne a week). All four meals said "use within four days". What's the point in having meals that have to be used within four days when you are planning for a week? The box came on Monday afternoon. This morning, Thursday, I had to throw out ingredients that were bad in two of the meals. I had cooked two of the meals. The meals I received were not something I would eat (I did not choose) I don't do spicey at all. They were used for GD. When dealing with **************** I got half the money they took out of me back. I tried several times to get explanations and results with **************** but it did not work well at all. I am still working on CANCELING the account I have blocked them on ****** In this case glad I used ****** because fwiw it did add a layer of security. ***: I learned their customer service is based in ********. I feel they are bad and a waste. I wish others good luck but they definitely did me wrong.Home Chef
