I am certain that *** is a scam and taking money from people not for educational benefit to the student but for financial gain of their own. There are assigned teachers for each course but mostly they are only there for grading of a discussion board post and in case you have a question. You are assigned all these different advisors but once you ************* no body follows up, even if you request it. They push for u to begin and seem very supportive but that becomes nonexistent one you begin. My biggest complaint and concern is with financial aid. The lady, ***********************, has no idea what she is doing and even had me sign forms incorrectly. Initially I was told that I would receive a stripend if nearly $1600. The calls are supposedly recorded and this should be investigated. My ACTUAL money back was $284. I had been counting on that money for living expenses. I researched and looked into possible grants for students facing finance hardship and learned about *****'S which is done with FASFA but the school is in charge of distributing. I am including documentation of my conversation with ******* about this. I was told there were no more funds available and that I didn't qualify. See conversation. I wouldn't be surprised if the school distributed any of those federal funds to students. Additionally upon looking into *** I'm finding that their accreditation is only thru the *************************** Many employers don't even recognize a degree earned by *** and job placement after finishing school is extremely low. They failed to include these statistics in all the hype when getting me to enroll. I am paying nearly $62,000 for my education and not even receiving a mediocre learning environment. There are no exams. The courses are 5 units long -60 questions answered until you get them right and you pass. Additionally looking at my paperwork they did not verify my educational background or have any original transcripts on file for me. This "school" should be shut down.Business Response

This is my response to the BBB complaint number 18942899,(American Intercontinental University)
Faculty and Classroom Structure
It is absolutely true that *** Instructors only grade DB postings and answers student questions via email or school messenger.Intellipath, which turns out to be the main teacher is a semi-informative platform that basically gives a briefing on key points to a subject followed by a test of a range of 8 to 12 multiple choice questions. This test can be done an infinite number of times until you are satisfied with your score. If you get a wrong answer you can choose to see the correct one. This accounts for 160 out of 200 points for each unit. (Each unit is one week long, 5 units per class) It is scored automatically, updating each time you attempt the test. This is the main material that determines a students grade and honestly anyone could pass it because after going thru the questions a few times you memorize the right answers. Out of six classes so far only one instructor has made themselves available to teach live sessions and answer questions. The remainder of the instructors relied on the auto grading system by intellipath and only used the traditional Rubric grading scale on DB postings which accounts for a little more than 25% of the grade. How am I receiving QUALITY education with this type of learning? You guys made it seem like an innovative and trusted education method. Below you will see your list of weekly deliverables as listed in your response.
intellipath
Individual Project
Discussion Board
Group Project
This gives the impression of a full and engaging academic week. The REALITY of it is that not all four are assigned, required, or even an option every week. In actuality each class Ive had so far only has a combination of two weekly deliverables. Mostly DB post (40pts weekly) and intellipath (160pts weekly). Again intellipath touches on KEY points in a particular subject with a brief multi question test that you may repeat as many times as you please.
Transcripts
At the initial time of my complaint, when viewing my documents in the student portal, it did not appear that you had these. I included screenshots of this particular question in my original complaint. Since then things have been updated and I can easily see and understand the documents that are on file.
Advising
The admissions advisors aka *** sales rep, did a fantastic job at getting me right in and walking me thru the initial stages. He even was available to make numerous calls and leave several messages to help me begin my first class. I was under the impression that *** was committed to student success and that advisors would be available and accessible with little trouble. I was also advised that I would be receiving some follow-up calls to touch base in the beginning. It is curious to me that following my complaint at this unfulfilled promise, I was in fact called by an *** advisor to ask how things were going. I know your procedure for requesting advisement and I had reached out with no return contact made.
The first photo I am promised a return call and waited but never received one.
The second photo shows my request to my advisor at the time to please contact me. Again I waited and never received a call
Financial Aid Documents and Stipends
I do not disagree that the three options were explained to me by ***********************. I do however know that I told her verbally that I wanted to get the full amount on my loans. To this she told me which option to choose. I am not sure if I by mistake chose the wrong option or if she told me the option to choose according to the decision I had told her I wanted. Regardless of the two,as she looked over my paperwork and double checked everything she should be proficient enough at her job to catch a mistake like that. In the phone calls it is obvious that I had the impression I was going to receive a $1600 return. It is also said that the return was going to happen in October specifically for a dollar amount of over $1600. I later decided to get the laptop, assuming it to be a quality product in which it is absolutely horrid. In a call to *******, I requested the laptop and also inquired about the date of my first stripend. At this point I was advised that I would be getting a payment minus the laptop in November. She made NO mention to me that my paperwork had been filled out incorrectly and should have caught this right then. It is important to note that I made contact with a DIFFERENT financial aid advisor who I contacted because I hadnt received my payment. This lady advised me that I wouldnt get one because I had opted to only get the minimum amount with no ooverage. This lady had me to fill out a new financial aid form and made sure it was done correctly. At this point I was given correct information pertaining to my financial aid. My forms were checked to make sure they were done correctly.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
I am fully aware of the proper procedure regarding the FAEOGS. Let me first note that upon my complaint to BBB and right beforereceiving the response to the complaint I did in fact receive a total of $1600 in payments. They are listed as follows per my student record
January 31 $200 FAEOG
JANUARY 31 $200 FAEOG
JANUARY p
Placement
I am not claiming that *** promised any sort of employment upon graduating. However *** failed to provide me with statistics on job placement or employer acceptance of the degree you plan to award me with if I was to continue education with you. This was not information readily given because of the potential to lose a prospect to your school. If I had been made aware of the retention rate, graduate to transfer ratio, post employment rates, and employer acceptance of the degree, there is no way I would have chosen ***.Instead all the emphasis is placed on how dedicated and supportive *** is with their students.I believe the word transparent was also used. The videos that are shown in the first class *** requires, the same misconception is driven into the student. The information given may seem like and may very well be facts, however the important decision making statistics are never mentioned..they fail to even make the student at least aware that this information is available or very important. The main goal here is to enroll people into school at an extremely high tuition rate. The use of intellipath is not to actually TEACH anyone much of anything but to instead provide the easiest route to a passing grade with no real gauge to evaluate any meaningful education being taught from very basic material. There are digital textbooks assigned with most classes but thats just for show because reading anything from them is not a necessity for class. The admissions advisor failed to disclose that *** is a FOR profit school, additionally failing to explain exactly what that meant.
Conclusion
I am in the process of transferring to a university that can provide me with a rewarding and fulfilling education experience, a school that strives to educate people with the goal of success. They readily and proudly provide the statistics to back up that claim. The curriculum is most definitely more difficult and much more is required with a tuition that doesnt speak being all about money. Employers are proud to have graduates and interns at their workplace. *** again is a money minded school striving to keep their attendance numbers high at the cost of a persons future. I have not withdraw from the school because I am intending to transfer. *** could be considered similar to Head Start, offered to children prior to real school. Only its Head Start for adults going to college. Intellipath is easy but its not educating anyone. Again *** needs to be intently looked at by its accrediting place. This school is robbing people and the federal government by not properly preparing students for a future due to poor educational instruction.

I am rejecting this response because:AIU only included partially what was discussed. I am including two emails that were sent post telephone call. I am remaining enrolled with AIU only until I transfer to another more reputable school. Despite my concerns for the school I am finishing a few classes that I'm already enrolled in.

The first reason I am filing a complaint against *** is because of the balances that I have on my account. I was not made aware of a balance being placed on my account.; the balance is over four-thousand-dollars. I was going to school using Financial Aid and Student Loans to pay for my tuition. I have completed my Associate's in *********************** back on March 2018. The second reason I am filing a complaint because I had used my cash app to pay for a digital degree on July 9, 2021 at 3:33 PM; it is known as ************** Docs. I contacted the school to inform them that I did not receive my digital degree, but they informed me that I would receive a refund in the next few days. I did not receive amount back. I called the *** today to get the cost because I was going to use my official transcript to attend ********* University. I do not know if any other students have had these problems, but I need help because it is not ethically right. Again, I was not made aware that I would have a balance after completing the program. The school has my old email address affiliated with my account, and that is ********************** That is not my email anymore. My current email is *********************** and you can reach me at ************ for additional information.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: it mentioned a couple of things that I did not recognize or recall when communicating with the University. When AIU called, we discussed the issue of the balance. Again, I was not aware of it. They mentioned that the ledger shows that I was charged 13, ****** for the program. If I received ******** for federal Pell Grants, federal Direct Subsidized of 5, 937, and ******** in stipends, then why was the amount of 13,****** wasn't paid for? The amount is calculated to16,076.9. If they knew that I would have a balance of ***** prior graduation, then why did they inform me or warn me to use the $******** that I received during those courses? I was not made aware that there would be a balance after graduation. I was not even aware that there would be a graduation fee after completing it. But even having a graduating fee, that stipend should have been saved to cover the cost. The last time I communicated with American InterContinental University, I mentioned why did I get that much in stipend knowing that there would be a balance after graduating; additionally, a graduation fee. They mentioned that it was not their fault.Second, I called AIU after having issues with receiving a digital copy. I was trying to get a new digital copy for Rehabilitation, an organization that helps students get jobs. I did not get the digital copy for that reason. I did not even get a refund for that amount paid as mentioned in the earlier complaint. The tone of their message is actually pointing blame and not realizing the issue from the other side. I did not get a digital copy that day, but the document is true that I did give American InterContinental University a new email address. I still did not get a refund. The only way I could actually communicate with Parchment is through American Intercontinental University. It is the tone of their message.

I enrolled in AIU in 2021 around May or June. I am active duty military so my classes were covered by TA. I took 3 classes and passed them but realized that college was not for me and the busy schedule I had at the time. I spoke to my student advisor and requested a withdrawal from the school in September 2021. Now I am constantly being called by the school about me owing them almost a thousand dollars for classes they say occured in December 2021. Which I did not attend due to the withdrawal. They are threatening to send the charge to a collections agency and mess with my credit.Business Response
